We analyze the pointing accuracy of two different antenna types of Satellite Communications (SATCOM)-on-the-Move (SOTM) terminals. We measured the antenna de-pointing in azimuth and elevation in a laboratory environment with the SOTM terminal mounted on a motion emulator fed with the terrain profile of the famous Churchville test track of the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Based on the measurements, we model the motion induced antenna de-pointing statistically by a stable distribution with parameters according to a Levy distribution. The parameters are dependent on the antenna type and tracking algorithm. Moreover, for both terminals we determine the effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) density projected on the geostationary arc in dependence on the antenna de-pointing. We compare these off-axis EIRP densities with coordinated limits of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and determine the probability of exceeding the off-axis EIRP density limit. Large de-pointing values occur only for small fractions of time but force the SOTM terminal operator to significantly reduce the EIRP to stick to the ITU limits. As an alternative we propose a change of the frequency coordination process, suggesting a probability based approach that allows ITU mask violations for a predefined percentage of time in favor of an efficient usage of the available terminal EIRP.

Multiple-Joint Pedestrian tracking Using Periodic Models

Estimating accurate positions of multiple pedestrians is a critical task in robotics and autonomous cars. We propose a tracker based on typical human motion patterns to track multiple pedestrians. This paper assumes that the legs' reflection and extension angles are approximately changing periodically during human motion. A Fourier series is fitted in order to describe the moving, such as describing the position and velocity of the hip, knee, and ankle. Our tracker receives the position of the ankle, knee, and hip as measurements. As a proof of concept, we compare our tracker with state-of-the-art methods. The proposed models have been validated by experimental data, the Human Gait Database (HuGaDB), and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Toyota Technological Institute (KITTI) tracking benchmark. The results indicate that our tracker is able to estimate the reflection and extension angles with a precision of 90.97%. Moreover, the comparison shows that the tracking precision increases up to 1.3% with the proposed tracker when compared to a constant velocity based tracker.

The need for drone traffic control management has emerged as the demand for drones increased. Particularly, in order to control unauthorized drones, the systems to detect and track drones have to be developed. In this paper, we propose the drone position tracking system using multiple Bluetooth low energy (BLE) receivers. The proposed system first estimates the target's location, which consists of the distance and angle, while using the received signal strength indication (RSSI) signals at four BLE receivers and gradually tracks the target based on the estimated distance and angle. We propose two tracking algorithms, depending on the estimation method and also apply the memory process, improving the tracking performance by using stored previous movement information. We evaluate the proposed system's performance in terms of the average number of movements that are required to track and the tracking success rate.

This paper analyzes the radar anti-jamming adaptive antenna beamforming algorithm, orthogonal subspace projection algorithm used in radar anti-jamming eigenvectors in the process can not be completely orthogonal subspace decomposition, constraints annihilatorspace decomposition algorithm to ensure orthogonal subspace eigenvectors. Finally, the simulation proved: subspace tracking algorithm has stronger anti-interference performance relative to the traditional adaptive algorithm.

The paper proposes a low-complexity implementation of the Vector Delay Lock Loop (VDLL) suitable for low-cost receivers operating with several GNSS constellations in indoor and urban scenarios. The tracking algorithm is based on the propagation of the estimated space/time trajectory through a grid of cells in two steps: prediction and updating. Side information about the receiver's motion and/or environment can be easily incorporated by assigning different a priori probabilities to the cells in the prediction step. The algorithm can operate reliably with a large range of satellites and has shown a remarkable robustness to the multipath effect, especially when the number of satellites in view is high.

A custom designed and manufactured gimbal with a wide field-of-view and fast response time is developed. This enhanced custom design is a 24 volt system with integrated motor controllers and drivers which offers a full 180 degrees field-of-view in both azimuth and elevation;this provides a more continuous tracking capability as well as increased velocities of up to 479 per second. The addition of active high-frequency vibration control, to complement the passive vibration isolation system, is also in development. The ultimate goal of this research is to achieve affordable, reliable, and secure air-to-air laser communications between two separate remotely piloted aircraft. As a proof-of-concept, the practical implementation of an air-to-ground laserbased video communications payload system flown by a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) will be demonstrated. A numerical tracking algorithm has been written, tested, and used to aim the airborne laser transmitter at a stationary ground-based receiver with known GPS coordinates;however, further refinement of the tracking capabilities is dependent on an improved gimbal design for precision pointing of the airborne laser transmitter. The current gimbal pointing system is a two-axis, commercial-off-the-shelf component, which is limited in both range and velocity. The current design is capable of 360 degrees of pan and 78 degrees of tilt at a velocity of 60 degrees per second. The control algorithm used for aiming the gimbal is executed on a PC-104 format embedded computer onboard the payload to accurately track a stationary ground-based receiver. This algorithm autonomously calculates a line-of-sight vector in real-time by using the UAV autopilot's Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) which provides latitude, longitude, and altitude and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which provides the roll, pitch, and yaw data, along with the known Global Positioning System (GPS) location of the ground-based photodiode array recei

Testing and evaluation of a novel pen input device are presented in this paper. The pen input device could be used to write on any type of surface including desktops, blackboards, or in the air. It is constructed by attaching an inertial/magnetic sensor module to a writing instrument such as a pencil, a marker, or a piece of chalk. The inertial/magnetic sensor module has three accelerometers, three angular rate sensors, and three magnetometers. A tracking algorithm and a calibration algorithm are described. The tracking algorithm is for estimating the pen tip trajectories based on the sensor measurements, and the calibration algorithm is for estimating the relative position of the sensor module on the writing instrument. Experimental results for writing alphanumeric characters are presented. The relationship between tracking accuracy and writing speed is also discussed.

The paper deals with the voltage events occurred in the low voltage supply systems and with problems about correct recording and analyzing of them. The paper presents two methods of voltage magnitude measurement and voltage events detection whereas both methods are based on different measuring algorithm. While the first method is currently used in voltage events recorders and power quality analyzers and is based on the measurement of RMS voltage values;the second method tracks the envelope of input signal amplitude in real-time. Both algorithms were simulated in Matlab/Simulink environment and were tested on many types of pre-set voltage events. The results are compared with the parameters of the pre-set voltage event.

Automated Detection and tracking of Equatorial Plasma Bubbles Utilizing Global-Scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) 135.6 nm Data

Equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) are regions of depleted plasma within the ionosphere that form during post-sunset hours near the magnetic equator. EPBs tend to align with local geomagnetic field lines, extend hundreds of kilometers along geomagnetic longitudes, and thousands of kilometers along geomagnetic latitudes. EPBs can attenuate lower frequency radio waves, such as HF radar. Smaller features, usually 10s of meters, along the EPB's wall can interfere with centimeter scale wavelengths, such as GPS, via Bragg scattering. Statistical analysis of EPBs can further understanding of their occurrence and behavior. The current study utilizes Global-Scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) 135.6 nm nightglow data from 5 October 2018 to 30 September 2022. GOLD has a unique perspective from geostationary orbit, allowing consistent viewing of nightglow and structures over the Americas and Atlantic. An EPB detection method is developed and used to generate a database of occurrences. Occurrences are used to calculate EPB drift speeds and separations. All data is looked at as a whole, including any possible solar or geomagnetic disturbance periods. Seasonality in occurrence rate is evident. Occurrences peak during December solstice and minimize during June solstice for longitudes seen by GOLD. Within GOLD's view, higher occurrences are seen to the west during December solstice and to the east during June solstice. EPB drift speeds and separations show consistent distributions regardless of magnetic latitude region, geographic region, or season. This suggests EPBs behave consistently and regularly once formed, at least on spatial scales observed by GOLD. Equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) are large regions of the upper atmosphere and tend to drift eastward after formation. These structures can form when smaller amplitude perturbations in the F-region ionosphere grow in both amplitude and scale as they expand outwards, forming a void or bubble in the plasma.
