A cell-by-cell thermally driven mushy cell tracking algorithm for phase-change problems - Part I: concept for tracking the moving front without natural convection

A thermally driven mushy cell tracking algorithm for phase-change problems with a moving boundary is presented. The equation used to track the moving boundary is based on energy balance over the mushy cell and is applied to advance a moving front in a cell-by-cell manner. The efficacy of the tracking algorithm is demonstrated on specific problems solved using the finite volume method. An implicit scheme is adopted to ensure that the numerical solution is unconditionally stable in time. A preconditioned conjugated gradient (P-CG) solver is implemented to ensure that solutions converge in a finite number of iterations. Four benchmark cases are used to validate the algorithm including solidification in one dimensional space (two-region problem), melting of pure aluminum in two-dimensional (2D) space, solidification with periodic boundary conditions, and solidification of one-region problem. The results obtained show that the current algorithm is capable of converging to accurate solutions for moving fronts and the numerical predications are in excellent agreement with corresponding analytical solutions.

This paper describes a path tracking algorithm implemented in an Intelligent Transportation System in order to validate if a vehicle is following properly a certain path previously assigned. The algorithm is based on a geometrical analysis and GPS data specified to trace in real-time the current position of the vehicle according to a previous digital map of the path to be tracked. As a case study, the tracking algorithm has been developed following the regulations of the public transportation of Medellin, important Colombian city with a large number of public buses and a significant complexity in the mobility within the city.

An anisotropic damage model combined with a tracking algorithm for modelling crack propagation

The development of a simple and efficient methodologies for numerically analyzing the material fracture process is very important in the field of computational mechanics. Damage mechanics approaches are still applied to fracture numerical analyses of many engineering practice problems. This paper focuses on the numerical prediction of crack propagation and fracture behavior by the combination of anisotropic damage model and tracking algorithm. In general, anisotropic damage models may be misunderstood to be used only in the simulations of anisotropic materials. However, it can be used for the anisotropic stiffness matrix induced by the crack plane in damaged isotropic materials. Although it is well known that the anisotropic damage model is superior to the isotropic damage model in fracture simulations, most of studies have combined the isotropic damage model and tracking algorithm, and few studies combine the anisotropic damage model and tracking algorithm. The issues of successfully combining the anisotropic damage model and crack tracking algorithm are addressed in this study. The anisotropic damage model is improved and a local tracking algorithm based on crack surface discretization is also modified. Various crack propagation problems are analyzed numerically to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed approach.

Implementation of a three-dimensional video tracking algorithm using CCD"s is presented. The algorithm does not require conventional pattern recognition or continuous segmentation updating. The only requirements, for the class of targets presented, are that the sampling lattice contain only points inside the target and that the background vary slowly. Several well-known segmentation techniques are available for initial segmentation and determination of target points. The use of CCD devices simplifies the architecture of the processor and permits real time processing at a high sampling rate. Some of the vector and matrix operations require either the use of continuously variable tapweight transversal filters or analog multipliers. The use of analog multipliers, which can be on-chip, reduces the number of components and offers higher accuracy than presently available variable tap weight transversal filters.

Low-Cost and Low-Profile Phased Array Antenna for Satellite Reception Using Optimized tracking algorithm

In this paper, a stair-planar phased array antenna system for mobile broadcast satellite reception in Ku-band is proposed. The hybrid electromechanical tracking algorithm of this antenna system is designed for properly steering the antenna beam into the target satellite. The antenna sub-array elements are designed by using FR-4 epoxy and RO4003 to reduce the fabrication cost without considerable drop in the array efficiency. The genetic algorithm optimization is used to achieve the optimum values for the element spacing and feed positions, also. This array is fabricated, tested and compared with the simulation results to prove the idea. After that, the selected array is expanded to the main sub-array (2 x 32) and the main antenna array composed of 640 microstrip elements (10 main sub-arrays with 64 elements in each sub-array) with 32.5-dB gain at operating frequency, 11.9 GHz. This system can cover 30 degrees-70 degrees in elevation and 360 degrees in azimuth planes by using the hybrid tracking algorithm to track different target satellites. This system serves as an excellent low-cost and simple candidate for Ku-band satellite reception in steady and smoothly moving platforms such as trains.

Servo and tracking algorithm for a probe storage system

Very fast, precise and robust servo algorithm and tracking algorithm for a probe storage system are proposed, which use only probes without any additional high-resolution position sensors. Servo algorithm uses the values read by servo probes as the coordinate of every data bit with one-to-one correspondence so that it provides high accuracy, short seek-time, and robustness. Also the concept of virtual subsection of data field is introduced to reduce the number of the servo probes. tracking algorithm can detect two-axis position errors used for off-track control and synchronization independently and continuously. By vibrating the scanner and by multiplying two decomposition signals, position errors are modulated and demodulated from probe reading signal. Servo+track code is designed to reduce total number of additional probes for servo and tracking and to have stable noise characteristics.

For several applications involving Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), a moving target must the tracked and followed autonomously. Several algorithms have been already proposed, mainly based on three different strategies, assuming in most of the cases the target trajectory known in advanced. We here propose a new algorithm and compared it with a well known and widely used control tracking algorithm in a ship-tracking scenario. Our proposal is derived from the qualitative analysis of the system response when a UAV low level controller is implemented. Besides, these algorithms depend on various parameters, which normally are tuned based on the experience. We also present a methodological way of tuning the parameters of these types of control algorithms based on the kinematic analysis of the movement, the control effort and the error while tracking the target. This method has been proved efficient and general, and it may be used for similar problems and control algorithms. © 2017

With the vigorous development of space technology, positioning and tracking of non-cooperative target become an important problem within the domain of space surveillance and safety. Because of the perturbation effect, orbital plane changes with time in the inertia frame, then the real position and velocity vector beyond the plane which is spanned by initial position and velocity, so the classical Laplace model is not suit for the dynamics model with perturbation forces. With consideration of perturbation effect on the normal direction of orbit plane, in this paper, the Laplace model of spacecraft motion was extended and founded in the space which is spanned by position vector, velocity vector and the multiplication cross vector of both, then a new tracking algorithm of non-cooperative target was studied based on bearings only measurement. Results show that non-cooperative target could be well tracked and positioned only with bearings measurement when the number of tracking devices is equal to or greater than two, so the new method could be used in the domain of space surveillance and invade target early warning.

Object tracking is to search the most similar parts to targets in video sequences. Among the various tracking algorithms, mean shift tracking algorithm has become popular due to its simplicity, efficiency and good performance. This paper focused on mean shift tracking algorithm, which is a modeling mechanism based on statistical probability density function. In practice, when the background of the tracking and characteristics of the target are similar, pixels of background occupy a large proportion in the histogram. The traditional mean shift cannot adapt to the mutative scene. Meanwhile, if there is block or disappearance, the result is not exact. Three algorithms were given for above difficulties. A weighted template background was established, that can highlight the features of target and improve real-time. Then this paper presented a selective mechanism to update the target model. Every component is updated based on the contribution to the target model. Finally, the Kalman filter was combined with mean shift algorithm We saw the prediction points of Kalman filter as the initial point, carried out the mean shift iteration and then updated Kalman filter using the ultimate location. Extensive experimental results illustrated excellent agreement with these methods.

In this paper we present the design, implementation and preliminary tests of a high depth underwater ROV inspection system. The ROV is equipped with a sensor-based system in order to characterize the water quality of marine ecosystems, and a vision-based system to identify the marine species. The vision system includes an adaptive color correction algorithm and a tracking algorithm that improves in real time the tracking of living species during inspection. A prototype was implemented to validate the functionality of the ROV operation and the vision system algorithms.
