A Motion Artifact Correction Procedure for fNIRS Signals Based on Wavelet Transform and Infrared Thermography Video tracking

Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a neuroimaging technique that allows to monitor the functional hemoglobin oscillations related to cortical activity. One of the main issues related to fNIRS applications is the motion artefact removal, since a corrupted physiological signal is not correctly indicative of the underlying biological process. A novel procedure for motion artifact correction for fNIRS signals based on wavelet transform and video tracking developed for infrared thermography (IRT) is presented. In detail, fNIRS and IRT were concurrently recorded and the optodes' movement was estimated employing a video tracking procedure developed for IRT recordings. The wavelet transform of the fNIRS signal and of the optodes' movement, together with their wavelet coherence, were computed. Then, the inverse wavelet transform was evaluated for the fNIRS signal excluding the frequency content corresponding to the optdes' movement and to the coherence in the epochs where they were higher with respect to an established threshold. The method was tested using simulated functional hemodynamic responses added to real resting-state fNIRS recordings corrupted by movement artifacts. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the procedure in eliminating noise, producing results with higher signal to noise ratio with respect to another validated method.

NMCT: A Novel Monte Carlo-Based tracking Algorithm Using Potential Proximity Information

Currently, many services benefit greatly from the availability of accurate tracking. tracking in wireless sensor networks remains a challenging issue. Most tracking methods often require a large number of anchors and do not take advantage of potential localization information, leading to poor accuracy. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a Novel Monte Carlo-based tracking (NMCT) algorithm with area-based and neighbor-based filtering, which fully extracts the proximity information embedded in the neighborhood sensing. We describe the entire system design in detail and conduct extensive simulations. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the typical schemes under a wide range of conditions.

An Enhanced tracking Algorithm for Distributed Encoding Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor Network

Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor network has attracted more attention in online condition monitoring for the large mechanical equipment. By the efforts of the encoding scheme for sensor nodes, the capacity for the distributed FBG sensor network can be significantly improved. However, due to the increasing number of sensor nodes, the precision of tracking and locating for the FBG sensors has become a bottleneck that should be conquered. In order to realize more accurate and comprehensive condition monitoring for the large mechanical equipment, an enhanced tracking algorithm for distributed encoding FBG sensor network is presented. The novel tracking algorithm uses three classes of progressive intelligent processing approaches, including the improved cycle matching method, the secondary filter intelligent disposal method, and the assistant decision processes method, to conquer the limitations of the traditional tracking algorithm in which the chaos and error results would be caused as the sensor information variations are overlapped. A set of experiments has been conducted and the results demonstrate that the proposed tracking algorithm performs better than the traditional algorithm in location accuracy for the distributed encoding FBG sensor network and can effectively operate in various working conditions of the large mechanical equipment.

Temporal Identification of Dysregulated Genes and Pathways in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma Based on Systematic tracking of Disrupted Modules

Objective. The objective of this work is to identify dysregulated genes and pathways of ccRCC temporally according to systematic tracking of the dysregulated modules of reweighted Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) networks. Methods. Firstly, normal and ccRCC PPI network were inferred and reweighted based on Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC). Then, we identified altered modules using maximum weight bipartite matching and ranked them in nonincreasing order. Finally, gene compositions of altered modules were analyzed, and pathways enrichment analyses of genes in altered modules were carried out based on Expression Analysis Systematic Explored (EASE) test. Results. We obtained 136, 576, 693, and 531 disrupted modules of ccRCC stages I, II, III, and IV, respectively. Gene composition analyses of altered modules revealed that there were 56 common genes (such as MAPK1, CCNA2, and GSTM3) existing in the four stages. Besides pathway enrichment analysis identified 5 common pathways (glutathione metabolism, cell cycle, alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism, arginine and proline metabolism, and metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450) across stages I, II, III, and IV. Conclusions. We successfully identified dysregulated genes and pathways of ccRCC in different stages, and these might be potential biological markers and processes for treatment and etiology mechanism in ccRCC.

Wildlife Hazard Management is nowadays a very serious problem, mostly at airports and wind farms. If ignored, it may lead to repercussions in human safety, ecology, and economics. One of the approaches that is widely implemented in small and medium-size airports, as well as on wind turbines is based on a stereo-vision. However, to provide long-term observations allowing the determination of the hot spots of birds' activity and forecast future events, a robust tracking algorithm is required. The aim of this paper is to review tracking algorithms widely used in Radar Science and assess the possibilities of application of these algorithms for the purpose of tracking birds with a stereo-vision system. We performed a survey-of-related works and simulations determined five state-of-the art algorithms: Kalman Filter, Nearest-Neighbour, Joint-Probabilistic Data Association, and Interacting Multiple Model with the potential for implementation in a stereo-vision system. These algorithms have been implemented and simulated in the proposed case study

DI-GEP: A New Lifetime Extending Algorithm for Target tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are widely used in detecting, locating, and tracking moving objects. The cheap, low-powered, and energy-limited sensors that are set up in large areas may consume large portion of energy and disable the whole network. In this paper, a new energy-efficientmethod based on Distributed Incremental Gene Expression Programming (DI-GEP) is proposed to collaboratively mine moving patterns of moving targets in order to turn on/off some sensor nodes at certain time to save energy further. Meanwhile, an adjustable sliding window is designed to quickly train the latest collected location data in order to improve the efficiency of DI-GEP. The simulation results show that the proposed method effectively prolongs the network lifetime by around 25% compared with the EKF and ECPA.

A Scalable Multi-Target tracking Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

Multi-target tracking is a representative real-time application of sensor networks as it exhibits different aspects of sensor networks such as event detection, sensor information fusion, multihop communication, sensor management, and real-time decision making. The task of tracking multiple objects in a wireless sensor network is challenging due to constraints on a sensor node such as short communication and sensing ranges, a limited amount of memory, and limited computational power. In addition, since a sensor network surveillance system needs to operate autonomously without human operators, it requires an autonomous real-time tracking algorithm which can track an unknown number of targets. In this paper, we develop a scalable real-time multi-target tracking algorithm that is autonomous and robust against transmission failures, communication delays, and sensor localization error. The algorithm is based on a rigorous probabilistic model and an approximation scheme for the optimal Bayesian filter. In particular, an extensive simulation study shows that there is no performance loss up to an average localization error of 0.7 times the separation between sensors and the algorithm tolerates up to 50% lost-to-total packet ratio and 90% delayed-to-total packet ratio. The proposed algorithm has been successfully applied to real-time multi-target tracking problems using wireless sensor networks.

An Efficient Plot Fusion Method for High Resolution Radar Based on Contour tracking Algorithm

With the development of radar system, the problem of enormous raw data has drawn much attention. A plot fusion method based on contour tracking algorithm is proposed to detect extended targets in a radar image. Firstly, the characteristic of radar image in complex environment is revealed. Then, the steps of traditional method, region growing method, and the proposed method are introduced. Meanwhile, the algorithm of tracking the contour of an extended target is illustrated in detail. It is not necessary to scan all the plots in the image, because the size of target is considered in the proposed method. Therefore, the proposed method is much more efficient than several existing methods. Lastly, the performance of several methods is tested using the raw data of two scenarios in real world. The experiment results show that the proposed method is practical and most likely to satisfy the real-time requirement in various complex environment.

Enhanced energy extraction in an open loop single-axis solar tracking PV system with optimized tracker rotation about tilted axis

We compare the energy extracted from single-axis solar tracking systems employing optimized rotation about the tilted axis and the azimuth axis, respectively. It is shown that the optimized rotation about the tilted axis has the potential to extract significantly higher energy, particularly at lower latitudes. An open loop single-axis solar tracking system that tracks the sun through optimized rotation about the tilted axis is proposed and demonstrated. The system takes the location parameters, axis tilt, and the initial time and date as inputs and calculates the solar position at any given time. The solar position in turn decides the optimized rotation. In a prototype using a single potentiometer based angle determination method, the error between the computed and implemented rotation angles remains within +/- 3 degrees. The tracking system with optimized rotation about the tilted axis extracted 20.01% more energy than a fixed panel system as opposed to 11.72% for that of the azimuth tracking system at the same tilt angle under identical conditions on a clear day at a latitude of 23.81 degrees N. These percentage enhancements are in agreement with theoretical predictions. On a partially cloudy day, the advantages of the optimized rotational tracking about the tilted axis are diminished as the optimized rotational tracking system extracted 8.59% more energy than the fixed panel, whereas the azimuth tracking system extracted 7.86% more energy with respect to the fixed panel system at the same tilt angle at the same latitude. This paper aims to develop a general framework for accurately tracking and quantitatively characterizing multiple cells ( objects) when collision and division between cells arise. Through introducing three types of interaction events among cells, namely, independence, collision, and division, the corresponding dynamic models are defined and an augmented interacting multiple model particle filter tracking algorithm is first proposed for spatially adjacent cells with varying size. In addition, to reduce the ambiguity of correspondence between frames, both the estimated cell dynamic parameters and cell size are further utilized to identify cells of interest. The experiments have been conducted on two real cell image sequences characterized with cells collision, division, or number variation, and the resulting dynamic parameters such as instant velocity, turn rate were obtained and analyzed.
