JPEG2000 allows scenes to be encoded in a highly scalable and accessible manner, so that only the content that is relevant to a region or resolution of interest need be transmitted and decoded. This paper extends this property to allow efficient access into compressed images that have a very high dynamic range, based on a dynamic-range-of-interest. Optimized reprioritization of the encoded content is used to stream imagery based on a potentially dynamic set of viewing conditions that implicitly identify the visual significance of content. We propose and validate a framework for doing this, based on a single compressed representation, a sparse set of display-independent luminance statistics and a novel algorithm for inferring the display-dependent significance of code-block distortions.

We present ARCHANGEL;a novel distributed ledger based system for assuring the long-term integrity of digital video archives. First, we describe a novel deep network architecture for computing compact temporal content hashes (TCHs) from audio-visual streams with durations of minutes or hours. Our TCHs are sensitive to accidental or malicious content modification (tampering) but invariant to the codec used to encode the video. This is necessary due to the curatorial requirement for archives to format shift video over time to ensure future accessibility. Second, we describe how the TCHs (and the models used to derive them) are secured via a proof-of-authority blockchain distributed across multiple independent archives. We report on the efficacy of ARCHANGEL within the context of a trial deployment in which the national government archives of the United Kingdom, Estonia and Norway participated.

Telco-CDNs refer to content distribution networks deployed and managed by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). They are getting popular among major ISPs because they offer new revenue streams and have the potential of providing better performance compared to traditional CDNs. Managing telco-CDNs is, however, a complex problem, because it requires jointly managing the network resources (links and switches) and the caching resources (processing and storage capacities), while supporting the adaptive nature and skewed popularity of multimedia content. To address this problem, we present a new algorithm called CAD (Cooperative Active Distribution), which strives to serve as much as possible of the requested multimedia objects within the ISP while carefully engineering the traffic paths through the network. This is achieved by enabling the cooperation among caches within the ISP not only to serve various representations of multimedia objects, but also to create them on demand using the available processing capacity of caches. We have implemented CAD and evaluated it on top of a network emulator that runs deployment code and processes real traffic. Using an actual ISP topology, our experimental results show that CAD achieves substantial performance improvements compared to the closest work in the literature, e.g., up to 64% reduction in the total inter-domain traffic.

Low-complexity transcoding algorithm from H.264/AVC to SVC using data mining

Nowadays, networks and terminals with diverse characteristics of bandwidth and capabilities coexist. To ensure a good quality of experience, this diverse environment demands adaptability of the video stream. In general, video contents are compressed to save storage capacity and to reduce the bandwidth required for its transmission. Therefore, if these compressed video streams were compressed using scalable video coding schemes, they would be able to adapt to those heterogeneous networks and a wide range of terminals. Since the majority of the multimedia contents are compressed using H.264/AVC, they cannot benefit from that scalability. This paper proposes a low-complexity algorithm to convert an H.264/AVC bitstream without scalability to scalable bitstreams with temporal scalability in baseline and main profiles by accelerating the mode decision task of the scalable video coding encoding stage using machine learning tools. The results show that when our technique is applied, the complexity is reduced by 87% while maintaining coding efficiency.

servers in the Internet are vulnerable to Web attacks, to detect Web attacks, a commonly used method is to detect anomalies in the request parameters by making regular-expression-based matching rules for the parameters based on known security threats. However, such methods cannot detect unknown anomalies well and they can also be easily bypassed by using techniques like transcoding. Moreover, existing anomaly detection methods are usually based on a single HTTP request, which is easy to ignore the attack behavior within a period of time, such as brute-force password cracking attack. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised W eb S ession A nomaly D etection method called WSAD. WSAD uses ten features of web session to perform anomaly detection. After extracting the ten features, WSAD uses the DBSCAN algorithm to cluster the features of each session and outputs the outliers found in the clustering process as anomalies. We evaluate the performance of WSAD on several datasets from multiple real websites of a company. The results indicate that WSAD could detect malicious behaviors that could not be detected by Web Application Firewall, and it almost has no false positives.

Video is one of the digital contents that is consumed by most of internet's user. Developer needs to build Video on Demand applications with ease and focus with the content. The increase in internet traffic caused by video is another reason for the development of video on demand based on MPEG DASH. In this research, MPEG DASH is a streaming method which allows to adjust the bit rate into multiple resolution. Video on Demand system consists of video transcoding, streamer, and video player. This research work has designed and implemented Video on Demand based on MPEG DASH that can be embedded with web application. The video player worked well and managed to carry out all its functions.

Communication have paved a long way towards Human Brain interfacing or interpretation with computers. By using EEG to record Brain wave signals based on GDTAB and transcoding them for the movement of the disabled person which enhances independency for their motion. With the explosive growth of video traffic, the traditional Cloud-based video streaming network has been difficult to meet the video services' requirements of low latency and high bandwidth. Therefore, Edge Computing with low latency and Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) with dynamic adaptive changing video bitrate versions are utilized to optimize video streaming service. However, the edge server deployed next to the base station is not an exclusive tool for video streaming optimization, and its processing ability is limited. Therefore, in some request intensive scenarios such as shopping malls, schools and residential areas, when the server receives a large amount of video segment requests, it cannot process all video segment requests at the same time. The existing DASH-video service optimization methods with Edge Computing did not consider how to schedule requests which exceed the available processing ability of the edge server. Moreover, the collaboration of edge servers has not been made full use in the existing methods. In view of these challenges, we propose a multi-request scheduling and collaborative service processing method (MRSCP) for DASH-video in Cloud-Edge network. The cache placement and update, multi-request scheduling, and collaborative caching and transcoding are considered in our method. Extensive experiments are conducted to validate the efficiency and effectiveness of our method.

Leveraging video caching to collaborative Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) servers is an emerging paradigm, where cloud computing services are extended to edge networks to allocate multimedia contents close to end-users. However, despite minimizing the traffic over the content delivery networks (CDN), congestions may occur in peak hours characterized by high load demands. Involving users' devices in data offloading through Device-to-Device (D2D) connections has proved its efficiency in relieving the cellular spectrum utilization. In this paper, the Collaborative Edge network (CE) and the devices (D2D) cluster are combined to form a CE-D2D framework aiming at maximizing video caching and efficiently using cellular and backhaul bandwidths. However, since we are dealing with large sized contents, the small storage and bandwidth capacities offered by users limit the number of cached videos and restrict offloading large volume data. This makes the CE-D2D framework, so far, an incomplete solution for multimedia contents. Therefore, we propose a caching strategy to cache only the chunks of videos to be watched and instead of caching or offloading each video content by one edge node (as performed in literature), helpers (MEC and mobiles) will collaborate to store and share different chunks to optimize the storage/transmission resources usage. In this work, we model both CE and D2D frameworks as linear programs and schedule the collaboration between them constrained by resource availability. Due to the NP-hardness of the problem, we introduce an online heuristic that presents a proactive chunks caching (HLPC) and a near-optimal data offloading with polynomial complexity.

Low-complexity transcoding from H.264 to HEVC based on motion vector clustering

The forthcoming high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard substantially improves the coding efficiency compared with the H.264 standard. It also brings in much higher computational complexity. transcoding from H.264 to HEVC is an important step to enable gradual migration to HEVC. A low-complexity H.264 to HEVC transcoding algorithm based on motion vector clustering is proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce up to 40% of the computational time compared to the original method, while maintaining a high rate-distortion performance.
