Performance analysis of 64QAM turbo coded OFDM for 4G applications

In this paper, analysis is made on bit error rate (BER) performance for digital video broadcasting using turbo coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM).The aim is to achieve energy efficiency in extremely noise environment channel condition. turbo coding is one of the most attractive coding techniques since it has been proposed, because it can achieve the error correction capability near Shannon’s limit. turbo code provides significant coding gain by utilizing two relatively simple constituent convolutional encoders, which are concatenated in parallel through an interleaver. The performance of 64 QAM with turbo encoding technique is verified for various code rates at different bit error rates. The BER performance is strongly influenced by signal to noise ratio. Use of parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCC) turbo encoder with interlever and soft decision BCJR decoder provides better performance by randomization. The fading channels considered here are Additive White Gaussian noise (AWGN) along with Rician Fading Channel. Result shows that for E b /N o Value of 20dB, lower code rates are performed better BER performance (10 -3 ) i.e. errors observed are less for lower code rates at 20dB of E b /N o value. The structure of the SIMULINK design is developed for different code rates with turbo coded OFDM, 64 QAM and the results are analyzed using a BER tool of MATLAB version 2017a.

In order to improve unequal error protection and compression ratio of 2-D colored images over wireless environment, we propose two new schemes denoted as "Adaptive Wiener-turbo System (AWTS) and Adaptive Wiener-turbo Systems with JPEG & Bit Plane Compressions (AW-TSwJBC)". In AW-TS, there is a feedback link between Wiener filtering and turbo decoder and process iteratively. The scheme employs a pixel-wise adaptive Wiener-based turbo decoder and uses statistics (mean and standard deviation of local image) of estimated values of local neighborhood of each pixel. It has extra-ordinary satisfactory results of both bit error rate (BER) and image enhancement performance for less than 2 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) values, compared to separately application of traditional turbo coding scheme and 2-D filtering. In AW-TSwJBC scheme, 2-D colored image is passed through a color & bit planes' slicer block. In this block, each pixel of the input image is partitioned up to three main color planes as R, G, B and each pixel of the color planes is sliced up to N binary bit planes, which corresponds to binary representation of pixels. Thus depending on importance of information knowledge of the input image, pixels of each color plane can be represented by fewer number of bit planes. Then they are compressed by JPEG prior to turbo encoder. Hence, two consecutive compressions are achieved regarding the input image. In 2-D images, information is mainly carried by neighbors of pixels. Here, we benefit of neighborhood relation of pixels for each color plane by using a new iterative block, named as "Adaptive Wiener-turbo" scheme, which employs turbo decoder, JPEG encoder/decoders and Adaptive Wiener Filtering.

In this paper, in order to compress and enhance 2D images transmitted over wireless channels, a new scheme called Kalman-turbo (KT) is introduced. In this scheme, the original image is partitioned into 2(N) quantization levels and each of the N-bit planes is coded by turbo encoder. After noise corruption of the channel, each of the noisy bit planes is processed iteratively by a joint equalization block, which is composed of low-complexity 2D binary Kalman filter and the turbo decoder. In our Kalman filter, state equations are modified in order to take the advantage of two-dimensionality, and, previous soft decisions are taken into account to avoid divergence of Kalman filter. Simulation results show that the performance of the KT system is superior at low SNRs when compared with that of plain turbo decoding algorithms. We can also achieve compression by any selection of N. Hence, we conclude that KT system will be a compromising approach in 2D image transmission.

Diversity is a technique used to combat fading in wireless communication channels. One can attain spatial diversity using Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) techniques to achieve high bit rates required for evolving multimedia applications. On the other hand, cooperative communication can be used to achieve the diversity gains typical of MIMO without the necessity for multiple antennas on the wireless units. In this paper, we investigate the use of receiving node (destination) cooperation. We evaluate the performance of a novel destination cooperation scheme in an interference channel (DC-IC). We compare the performance of this scheme with the baseline 2-user orthogonal channel method and with a scheme we proposed earlier. There, we demonstrated that the 2-user DC-IC outperforms the baseline technique by far. This is due to the cooperative communication. In the cooperative scheme, the receiver nodes in the first phase, decode the received information from both sources while in the second phase they cooperate. The novel scheme presented here provides both diversity and about 2dB coding gain. We present several scenarios that illustrate the efficiency of employing such technique with and without channel coding.

With the integration of internet and multimedia applications in next generation wireless communication, the demand for wide-band high data rate communication services is increasing. Since the available spectrum is limited and user demand continues to grow, this problem could be solved by WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology. WiMAX supports high data rate and high capacity in mobile BWA (Broadband Wireless Access). The performance of WiMAX system can be enhanced by incorporating better channel coding technique in the system. It can be further improved by incorporating MIMO (Multiple-Inputs Multiple-Outputs) technique. The introduction of MIMO with STC (Space Time Code) provides a robust platform for space, time and frequency selective fading conditions and increases both data rate and system performance. In this paper, the performance of mobile WiMAX system using LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) coding and MIMO system considering STC techniques under Rayleigh channel is simulated and analyzed.

In this paper, Bussgang algorithm is developed as a blind equalizer for multi-carrier multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channels to combat both spatial multiplexing interference and channel variations. Also, the Bussgang technique is extended with adapting the one or two parameters in its nonlinear function. The Bussgang algorithm and its two extended version are simulated and compared to the full known channel (ideal) and decision directed cases. Frame error rate (FER) and bit error rate (BER) of both coded and uncoded cases, are considered as comparison criteria and it is shown that the much performance improvement is achieved compared to decision directed algorithm and each of the three proposed schemes presents the best performance in the different criteria and Eb/N0.

The weak strength of GPS signal makes it very vulnerable to jamming. This calls for appropriate modeling and implementation of GPS signal source and jammers that are used to jam GPS signal. The present work describes a simple and efficient way to simulate GPS signal using MATLAB® with focus on investigation of GPS signal jamming and devising an anti-jamming technique to counter different jamming scenarios besides Additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The jamming types influencing GPS Signal have been identified and suitable jamming scenarios have been modeled using MATLAB®. The effect of each jamming signal type on GPS signal has been quantified by estimation of Bit error rate (BER) for different jamming to signal (J/S) ratio. A background study of different anti-jamming techniques for GPS signal has been carried out and turbo coding has been implemented as a suitable measure to counter the effect of GPS signal jamming.

This paper presents performance of two level turbo coded 4-ary continuous phase frequency shift keying. In this system,, to provide phase continuity of the transmitted signals, turbo encoder and continuous phase encoder (CPE) are serially concatenated at the second level, while first level consist of only a turbo encoder. Simulation results are drawn for proposed system over AWGN, Rician and Rayleigh channels for three iterations while frame sizes are chosen as 100 and 1024. High error performances are obtained for proposed system compared to Trellis Coded CPFSK system

Power line communication (PLC) provides intelligent electrical functions such as power quality measurement, fault surveys, and remote control of electrical network. However, most of research works have been done in low voltage (LV) scenario due to the fast development of in-home PLC. The aim of this paper is to design a MIMO-OFDM based transmission link under medium voltage (MV) underground power line channel and evaluate the performance. The MIMO channel is modeled as a modified multipath model in the presence of impulsive noise and background noise. Unlike most literatures on MIMO power line transmission, we adopt spatial multiplexing instead of diversity to increase the transmission rate in this paper. The turbo coding method originally designed for LV power line communication is used in the proposed transmission system. By comparing the BER performance of MIMO-OFDM system with and without the turbo coding, we evaluate its applicability in MV power line communication. The effect of frequency band varying on the PLC system's performance is also investigated.

In this paper, we propose a serially concatenated turbo-encoded faster-than-Nyquist signaling (FTNS) transceiver that takes into account FTNS-specific colored noise effects. The proposed low-complexity receiver carries out soft-decision frequency-domain equalization with the aid of the minimum-mean square error criterion while whitening the colored noise. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed multi-stage-concatenated FTNS system achieves a better error-ratio performance than previous systems that do not consider colored noise effects in the high-symbol-packing FTNS regime. Furthermore, as an explicit benefit of the proposed iterative decoder, near-capacity performance is achieved with practical decoding complexity.
