Persuasive technology is the general class of technology that has the explicit purpose of changing human attitudes and behaviours. Persuasive technologies apply principles of social psychology in influencing people; principles of credibility, trust, reciprocity, authority and the like. Social psychologists have spent a great deal of effort over many years in trying to understand how attitude and behaviour change comes about, focusing on the effectiveness of human persuaders, and the persuasive power of messages delivered through non-interactive mass-media, such as newspapers or television. Harnessing the persuasive power of current interactive media, persuasive technology was recently identified as a separate research field, as evidenced by B.J. 1 Fogg’s first discussion of the domain. Fogg characterises computers designed to 2 persuade as the 5th major wave in computing . The scope of technologies that hold persuasive potential is broader than ICT alone, and includes persuasive product design and architectural design, yet the interactive nature of computers uniquely enables user-sensitive and user-adaptive responding, allowing persuasive messages to be tailored to the specific user in question, presented at the right place and at the right time, thereby heightening their likely persuasive impact.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference of the CLEF Initiative, CLEF 2013, held in Valencia, Spain, in September 2013. The 32 papers and 2 keynotes presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this volume. The papers are organized in topical sections named: evaluation and visualization; multilinguality and less-resourced languages; applications; and Lab overviews.

This book proposes a combination of cognitive modeling with model-based user interface development to tackle the problem of maintaining the usability of applications that target several device types at once (e.g., desktop PC, smart phone, smart TV). Model-based applications provide interesting meta-information about the elements of the user interface (UI) that are accessible through computational introspection. Cognitive user models can capitalize on this meta-information to provide improved predictions of the interaction behavior of future humanusers of applications under development.

Embedded and ubiquitous computing is an exciting new paradigm that p- vides computing and communication services all the time, everywhere. Now we can attach computing and communication devices to human bodies to mo- tor our health, embed computing chips into brains to cure memory losses, or make smart fabrics so they can change colors or generate heat. All these new devices are created to the bene?ts or convenience of human lives. We need c- ativity as well as the advance of technology. This emergence is an outcome of researchand technologicaladvances in embedded software, embedded hardware, pervasivecomputing andcommunications, wireless networks, mobilecomputing, distributed computing and agent technologies, etc. The EUC 2006 conference provided a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address challenges and to present and discuss their ideas, results, work in progress, and experience. The Technical Program Committee of EUC 2006 was led by the TPC Chair, Edwin Shan, and 13 TPC Vice Chairs. A strong international Technical Program Committee was then formed to review, evaluate the submissions, and select the papers to be presented.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5;International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications, ICCASA 2016, held in Thu Dau Mot, Vietnam, in November 2016.;The 22 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from 35 submissions and cover a wide spectrum in the area of Context-Aware-Systems (CAS). CAS is characterized by its self- facets such as self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, self-optimization, self-protection, where context awareness used to dynamically control computing and networking functions. The overall goal of CAS is to realize nature-inspired autonomic systems that can manage themselves without direct human interventions.
