文章以实现固件模拟轻量化及降低固件模拟开发门槛为研究目的,以linux物联网设备的固件作为研究对象,采用user mode linux和Qemu user mode作为仿真技术的支撑,提出了一种新视角下的嵌入式linux固件模拟技术,并集成开发了基于UML的固件虚拟仿真引擎,最后在固件安全研究中实现应用。实验证明,该技术能提高固件模拟便利性和研究员测试效率,并降低物联网设备模拟门槛。

A network emulator is a software in its environment mimicking the functions and habits of the original network. Problems often encountered in doing research on computer networks is a problem of design and trial scenarios that require software and hardware enough to implement such a network scenario similar to a real scenario. Using virtual machine technology is expected to solve the problem. Netkit supports experiments with various network technologies and can support other technologies necessary for certain network experiments. This study uses a network emulator with netkit, where it is freely available and built based on linux user mode. Netkit allows users to experiment with complex computer network scenarios that can be easily implemented using linux. The experimental research is done by making the design first. The design is used to implement the routing process, to connect 4 different network addresses. On the Netkit implementation of the design, it is implemented by creating a virtual routing lab based on data from computer network topologies. The virtual laboratory implementation of this research routing is based on a network topology scenario. The results of these virtual routing lab experiments, the routing process runs well on the network based on predetermined test scenarios, with the occurrence of connections between different network addresses.. In the end the virtual routing lab implementation works well, with performance analysis results from the netkit emulator on the use of computer resources showing Usage CPU usage of 0% and Memory Usage averaging 20942.8k test time for 12 minutes. The results of this trial is very helpful for administrators before the implementation on the real network

The latest trends in the development of high interaction honeypots show that adaptive honeypots, which lure attackers by changing their behavior, are a feasible solution for gathering of as much information as possible about them. Adaptive Honeypot systems based on Game theory are in a development stage and the systems created until now are focused mostly on applying game-theoretic concepts for the configuration and reciprocal actions of high-interaction honeypots [1]. The paper presents a tested proof of concept system that integrates dynamic taint analysis with an existing adaptive honeypot in order to detect the rootkit malware that the attacker installs.

The purpose of this study is to give students a hands-on practical learning for IP network skills. It is important for students to operate network devices repeatedly to learn network skills. However, in practical learning with real network devices, students need a number of network devices. For this reason, it is not easy for students to prepare environment to be able to practice freely at any time. Therefore, we have developed a learning system to learn IP network skills on just one PC. Unlike existing network simulators, this system does not require students to learn scripting language to make scenarios. This system enables students to practice network skills freely and virtually on just one PC. We have implemented this system by applying the virtual linux environment user mode linux. This system consists of virtual routers, virtual hosts, and operating functions. In this research, this system is primarily intended to practice operation of routing on virtual routers. To evaluate, this system was experimented. The results indicated that this system had sufficient performance for introductory network courses for undergraduate students.

Virtual machine technologies have evolved during the last 40 years from mainframe to commodity (x86) systems. Although these techniques are nowadays quite mature in data center environments (consolidation, service continuity, etc.), scenario-based virtual infrastructure management tools keep evolving in research and educational areas. In this work, one such tool is described, Virtual Network user mode linux (VNUML), which has been successfully used during the past few years to help researchers and educators to build testbeds in a wide range of innovative network environments (such as IPv6 IX design and third-generation networks). Such application cases are detailed in this paper, assessing the soundness and flexibility of the tool. However, in spite of these successful applications, several challenges remain to be solved in virtual scenario management (distributed management, decoupling from any particular virtualization technique, and alignment with industry standards), and the way they are being addressed as part of VNUML's evolution is also discussed.

Obsolete hardware can be effectively reused through intelligent software optimization, which is possible only when source code is available. Virtual Distro Dispatcher (VDD) is a system that produces virtual machines on a central server and projects them on a number of costless physical terminals. VDD is the result of an extreme software optimisation based on virtualization and terminal servers. VDD creates and projects linux distros that are completely customizable and different from each other. They are virtual desktop machines that can be used for testing or developing and are completely controllable directly from each terminal. Memory consumption has been strongly reduced without sacrificing performances. Test results are encouraging to proceed with the research towards clustering.

A virtual network laboratory -allowing to emulate a physical network of computers and network devices such as switches or routers in software- represents a valuable tool for students, and may also be useful to researchers and system administrators. A tool of this kind, particularly if it aims at being usable by inexperienced students, should offer the same opportunities of configuring and experimenting with components as a physical network, providing also an intuitive graphical user interface for dynamically manipulating the network topology and each individual virtual device. Building such an inherently concurrent system is nontrivial, requiring the integration of many different components written in different languages and a complex control logic. Indeed some projects with similar purposes have been existing for years, and typically use scripting languages such as Python and Bash;by contrast our system, Marionnet(1), has been implemented using the functional language OCaml in just six man-months and yet providing several important features still missing in more mature projects. We seize the occasion of describing Marionnet to discuss the relevance of the functional style and of advanced type systems for dramatically cutting development time.

This paper discusses how linux clustering and virtual machine technologies can improve undergraduate students' hands-on experience in operating systems laboratories. Like similar projects, SOFTICE1 relies on user mode linux (UML) to provide students with privileged access to a linux system without creating security breaches on the hosting network. We extend such approaches in two aspects. First, we propose to facilitate adoption of linux-based laboratories by using a load-balancing cluster made of recycled classroom PCs to remotely serve access to virtual machines. Secondly, we propose a new approach for students to interact with the kernel code.

Nowadays hardware components are very expensive, especially if the prime purpose is to perform some routing related lab exercises. Physically connected network resources are required to get the desired results. Configuration of network resources in a lab exercise consumes much time of the students and scientists. The router simulation package Crab(1), based on KnoppW, Quagga' and user mode linux (UML) is designed for the students to facilitate them in performing lab exercises on a standalone computer where no real network equipment is needed. In addition to that it provides the facility of connection with the real network equipments. Crab also handles the pre configuration of different parts of the simulated networks like automatic IT addressing etc. This paper will describe the performance enhancing of Crab by replacing user mode linux virtual machine with XEN capable of providing ten virtual sessions concurrently using a standalone computer.
