Predicting Changes in user-driven Requirements Using Conditional Random Fields in Agile Software development

Agile development encourages requirements change. The accurate predictions of changes in user requirements could help software evolve in the right direction to increase user satisfaction. Previous research on requirement predictions mostly relies on historical defects or user feedback. In this article, we aim to predict requirement changes based on user-system interactions in agile software development. We focus on the user-system interaction behaviors used to infer user intentions and predict requirement changes to drive the incremental iterations of agile development. Through a prototype system with two incremental iterations, an embedded program in the system captures the user runtime interaction behavior data. We utilize the conditional random fields to explore the user potential intentions and infer the emerging requirements accordingly. The increased accuracy of results in the iterations proves the effectiveness of our approach in predicting user requirement changes.

Background: The Early Psychosis Intervention Network of California project, a learning health care network of California early psychosis intervention (EPI) programs, prioritized incorporation of community partner feedback while designing its eHealth app, Beehive. Though eHealth apps can support learning health care network data collection aims, low user acceptanceor adoption can pose barriers to successful implementation. Adopting user-centered design (UCD) approaches, such as incorporation of user feedback, prototyping, iterative design, and continuous evaluation, can mitigate these potential barriers. Objective: We aimed to use UCD during development of a data collection and data visualization web-based and tablet app, Beehive, to promoteengagementwith Beehiveas part of standard EPI care across a diverse user-base. Methods: Our UCD approach included incorporation of user feedback, prototyping, iterative design, and continuous evaluation. This started with userjourney mapping to create storyboards, which were then presented in UCD workshops with service users, their support persons, and EPI providers. We incorporated feedback from these workshops into the alpha version of Beehive, which was also presented in a UCD workshop. Feedback was again incorporated into the beta version of Beehive. We provided Beehivetraining to 4 EPI programs who then piloted Beehive's beta version. During piloting, service users, their support persons, and EPI program providers completed Beehive surveys at enrollment and every 6 months after treatment initiation. To examine preliminary user acceptance and adoption during the piloting phase, we assessed rates of participant enrollment and survey completion, with a particularfocus on completion of a prioritized survey: the Modified Colorado Symptom Index. Stakeholder-oriented Elaboration of Artificial Intelligence use cases using the example of Special-Purpose engineering

Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers high potential for addressing various challenges in engineering. The supportive use of cognitive systems allows an efficient division of work, especially for knowledge workers. For example, error-prone, repetitive, and non-essential activities can be outsourced or supported by AI. However, the establishment of AI solutions often fails due to a purely technically oriented approach. Successful implementation requires a prior selection of potential and intended benefits, in which all stakeholders are involved systematically. Including stakeholders at an early stage prevents expensive mistakes. In this paper human-oriented methods are applied and adapted to further detail AI use cases and achieve a high benefit for multiple stakeholders. That is the reason why this method stands out from previous methods. Five steps for elaboration AI use cases are presented in this method: Stakeholder-Identification, Stakeholder-Analysis, Synthesis of the user problem, Testing and Benchmarking, and Detailed evaluation and prioritization. In Special-Purpose engineering, the focus is on individual products for the customer. Therefore, three AI use cases have emerged from the design department of a Special-Purpose engineering company. The content of detailed descriptions and initial demonstrators are discussed with the stakeholders along the method and the results are fed back into a reusable, comprehensive architecture framework including a Black-Box model. In addition, the technical side is detailed and its applicability in a company is examined. Subsequently, the use cases are further adapted and evaluated with the users. The result is an AI use case that can proceed to the next phase of implementation. The following paper illustrates this stakeholder-oriented procedure for evaluating and detailing AI use cases validated by three use cases - for example, "Reverse Engineering of functions"- in Special-Purpose engineering.

Background: Psychosocial stress-management interventions can reduce stress and distress and improve the quality of life for survivors of cancer. As these in-person interventions are not always offered or accessible, evidence-informed digital stress-management interventions may have the potential to improve outreach of psychosocial support for survivors of cancer. Few such digital interventions exist so far, few if any have been developed specifically for survivors of breast cancer, and few if any have attempted to explore more than 1 distinct type of intervention framework. Objective: This study aimed to develop 2 digital psychosocial stress-management interventions for survivors of breast cancer;1 cognitive behavioral therapy-based intervention (CBI), and 1 mindfulness-based intervention (MBI).Methods: The development of the CBI and MBI interventions originated from the existing StressProffen program, a digital stress-management intervention program for survivors of cancer, based on a primarily cognitive behavioral therapeutic concept. development processes entailed a multidisciplinary design approach and were iteratively conducted in close collaboration between key stakeholders, including experts within psychosocial oncology, cancer epidemiology, stress-management, and eHealth as well as survivors of breast cancer and health care providers. Core psychosocial oncology stress-management and cancer epidemiology experts first conducted a series of workshops to identify cognitive behavioral and mindfulness specific StressProffen content, overlapping psychoeducational content, and areas where development and incorporation of new material were needed. Following the program content adaptation and development phase, phases related to user testing of new content and technical, privacy, security, and ethical aspects and adjustments ensued. user engagement and support is getting increasing attention in the world of institutional repositories as user-driven improvements are becoming the norm [4]. As the Los Alamos National Laboratory Research Library prepared for an interface overhaul intended to modernize current online tools, we developed a pipeline to track and analyze user feedback. We focused our efforts on emails specific to one tool sent to the helpdesk, from its launch in March 2012 to November 2018. We analyzed both email volume and email contents and found that while email volume is stable over time, contents vary in correlation to changes in tool workflows, capabilities, and policies dictating tool use. Our developed methods offer insights into user behavior and guidance for future tool development.

Background: Current clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) for antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) are guideline- or expert-driven. They are focused on (clinical) content, not on supporting real-time workflow. Thus, CDSSs fail to optimally support prudent antimicrobial prescribing in daily practice. Our aim was to demonstrate why and how participatory development (involving end-users and other stakeholders) can contribute to the success of CDSSs in ASPs. Methods: A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining scenario-based prototype evaluations (to support verbalization of work processes and out-of-the-box thinking) among 6 medical resident physicians with an online questionnaire (to cross-reference findings of the prototype evaluations) among 54 Dutch physicians. Results: The prototype evaluations resulted in insight into the end-users and their way of working, as well as their needs and expectations. The online questionnaire that was distributed among a larger group of medical specialists, including lung and infection experts, complemented the findings of the prototype evaluations. It revealed a say/do problem concerning the unrecognized need of support for selecting diagnostic tests. Conclusions: Low-fidelity prototypes of a technology allow researchers to get to know the end-users, their way of working, and their work context. Involving experts allows technology developers to continuously check the fit between technology and clinical practice. Situational development and utilization of long-tail Web applications often involves scenarios with multiple persons interacting. Keeping private data under control comes into focus when using applications in sensitive domains, such as financial management. Main problems comprise the lack of data restriction capabilities in an adequate granularity, missing awareness on data restricted as well as missing visual representations both on previewing such private data and replacement of non-shared data on the invitee's side. To this end, we present an innovative sharing process with fine-grained control of private data, sharing awareness and impression management. Further, policy compliance for private data enables corporate use, fostering the utilization of the collaborative Web mashup paradigm in business application scenarios. A user study shows the suitability of the corresponding interaction features for the target group of Web users with no programming skills.

user-driven approach is commonly understood as the process of collecting demand side information and consumer trends for improved business performance. However, in order to derive sustainable benefits from user driven development, companies must deploy also the supply side structures and operational models that are required to support user-driven product development processes. Thus committing to user-driven approach requires major investments, as well as changes in competences and mindset towards openness and collaborative development. For the management to commit to this new strategic direction, relevant fact based evidence of the added value of the approach is needed, as well as a clear operational processes for implementing the new structures. In this paper we present an example of such process together with a framework for illustrating the added value in various impact layers. This network builds on the findings from a recent user driven open innovation project, UDOI Booster, funded by Finnish Tekes. © 2010 IEEE.

We investigate a user-driven collaborative knowledge engineering and interaction design process. The outcome is a knowledge-based support application tailored to physicians in the local dementia care community. The activity is organized as a part of a collaborative effort between different organizations to develop their local clinical practice. Six local practitioners used the generic decision-support prototype system DMSS-R developed for the dementia domain during a period and participated in evaluations and re-design. Additional two local domain experts and a domain expert external to the local community modeled the content and design of DMSS-R by using the modeling system ACKTUS. Obstacles and success factors occurring when enabling the end-users to design their own tools are detected and interpreted using a proposed framework for improving care through the use of clinical guidelines. The results are discussed.
