The vibe algorithm is a powerful technique for the background detection and subtraction in video sequences. Compared to the state-of-the-art algorithms, vibe algorithm is better in fast speed and less memory consumption. However, when applying vibe algorithm to the moving objects appeared in the first frame of videos, all pixels in first frame will be used to build the background model that will result in the foreground pixels in sample set. This problem causes the ghost areas emerge. And it will remain for a long time. In this paper, a salient region detection based vibe algorithm is proposed to eliminate the ghost areas fast. First, the foreground region is extracted from the first frame of videos using the salient region detection algorithm. According to the result of salient region detection, the background area of image is separated from the foreground area. The foreground pixels are dislodged from the sample set. Then, only background pixels are used for background model initialization. The experimental result shows that the improved algorithm can eliminate ghost in few frames quickly.

A vibe improved algorithm based on HIS color space and a watershed algorithm are used to obtain the smoke contours. The vibe algorithm is used to extract smoke anomalies and smoke inaccuracies. In this paper, the classical vibe algorithm is described, and the existing problems in the smoke detection are analyzed. A vibe algorithm is proposed to change the gray color space and the HIS color space by using the color feature information and vibe. The influence of light and shadow on the smoke extraction noise is reduced by using the difference of pixel value based on Euclidean distance. The problem of imprecision of smoke caused by vibe algorithm is analyzed by using the watershed algorithm. Finally, the proposed method is evaluated by Barnich experiment standard. The experimental results show that the proposed method can extract the smoke profile more accurately and has good robustness.

In order to improve the execution efficiency of vibe algorithm in the process of background model updating, a time and space integrated method is proposed, which can not only take the advantage of previous memoryless updating strategy, but also improve the execution efficiency of the algorithm by combining both with-memory and memoryless methods. To remove the ghost in the initialization phase of vibe algorithm, we present a method which combines vibe algorithm and saliency map. For the Conservative update mechanism of vibe algorithm, a foreground life mechanism based on the life cycle of foreground blobs is applied, so that wrongly updatings of big and slow objects can be avoided. The experiments show that the above three proposed algorithms give better performance compared with classical vibe algorithm.

Due to the complexity of human motion, the target detection results by using traditional vibe algorithm are not so satisfactory. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to deal with the target detection issue by fusing an improved Canny operator with vibe algorithm. Specifically, the vibe algorithm is utilized to achieve the initial foreground region of a moving object;then, the improved Canny operator is applied to extract the edge information of a moving object;finally, the extracted foreground region and edge information are fused to obtain more accurate foreground region. The experimental results performed on KTH human behavior database demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

This paper describes the development of a Levy flights-based vibe algorithm for foreground detection. It is based on a novel approach, using a particular class of the generalized random walk known as Levy flights, to improve the spatial update mechanism. This mechanism originally used the uniform probability distribution, and it is responsible for handling the new objects that appear in the scene. The proposed approach speeds up the inclusion process of ghost regions in the background model and makes it faster than the inclusion of real static foreground objects while maintaining the classification performance. The developed detection algorithm was evaluated using inclusion speed and classification tests, the results showing the efficacy of using Levy flights with vibe's updating mechanism. Experimental tests were also undertaken on the proposed algorithm to validate its ability with real images, obtained through a series of experiments performed using a multi-spectral Kinect laser imaging sensor, and also from a public dataset. The experimental results show the high adaptation capability of this algorithm against the background modification and validate its ability to deal with multi-spectral real images. The developed algorithm achieved a better performance in comparison with traditional vibe algorithms when extracting background and detecting foreground objects.

A vibe Based Moving Targets Edge Detection algorithm and Its Parallel Implementation

In order to improve the computational speed and detection accuracy of the vibe algorithm in foreground edge detection, an improved algorithm based on vibe moving objects edge detection is proposed in this study by using the partial neighborhood modelH(x, y) of a pixel at the point (x, y) to find the absolute difference betweenH(x, y) and the pixel's original background modelM(x, y) to determine if the pixel is moving. According to the nature of the algorithm, a method based on offset thread block coordinates to optimize thread divergence is proposed from the perspective of calculation level of kernel function and a CUDA (computing unified device architecture) based method is propsed to optimize the stream transmission between CPU and GPU in order to the run time efficiency of the new algorithm. The experimental results indicated the improved algorithm implements ghost elimination, avoids large-area irrelevant background edges and achieves better efficiency and accuracy.
