This paper investigates the impact of uncertain blast load parameters on the stress distribution, failure probability, and failure areas of a RCC dam. It aims to enhance dam safety. Monte Carlo methods with a probabilistic approach are employed, and three software programs developed in visual basic are used to calculate the dam's failure and its associated probabilities. The results show that the maximum probabilities of failure increase with blast intensity, ranging from 25 % to 100 % for TNT equivalents of 10 kg to 100 kg. Average failure probabilities rise with intensity, from 0.6 % to 17.6 %. Notably, when blasts under 100 kg occur within 50 meters of the dam toe, failure rates are minimal (0 % to 0.25 %). However, as intensity increases, the failure rate of the dam body can reach 2.8 % to 5.5 % even at close distances. It can be concluded that the primary cause of dam failure is not an explosion at the dam crest, as higher blast intensity does not consistently lead to increased stress or failure rates. When the blast location remains the same, greater intensity results in more failures. The risk of upstream dam failure increases with blast intensity, peaking in a layer about 5 meters thick downstream.

A hybrid model to assess the hydropower potential for rivers

A computer program called hydropower plant site assessment program (HPSAP) was developed by using visual basic programming to assess the hydropower potential in river basins. A methodology to select the best site to install the hydropower plant was developed according to meteorological, hydrological and economical design criteria. HPSAP has several options to analyse watersheds for different head or power criteria. HPSAP estimates the locations coordinate and upstream drainage area for powerhouse and weir locations, elevation of powerhouse and weir, the distance between weir site and powerhouse site, penstock length, design head and power for proposed plants. The design discharge is estimated by using a flow duration curve regression equation developed by group method of data handling (GMDH) based on rainfall-runoff model outputs. The hydrological engineering centre-hydrological modelling system (HEC-HMS) model was used as the hydrological rainfall-runoff model in this study. The results have proven the ability of the program to assess the hydropower potential in river basins.

nowadays, a natural disaster is happening mostly on the earth. For examples flood, earthquake etc. These types of disasters like flood, earthquake can cause loss of property damage or life, so the structural health monitoring system is best solution for these types of problems. Structural health monitoring system is used to measuring the key parameter of the structural and environmental conditions on a continuous base at real-time. Purpose of SHM are detect structure damage, safety, disaster mitigation etc. Wireless sensors to monitor physical or environmental condition like pressure, level of water, acceleration etc. For bridges and dams application, wireless sensor measures the acceleration, tilting angle of bridge pillar and water level. The wireless sensor network is used in industry, urban terrain tracking and civil structure monitoring, security and surveillance, smart buildings etc. The wireless sensor network is consisting of number of nodes and one or more base stations. The sensor nodes in a sensor network are capable of collecting bridge or dam information and communicate with other connected nodes in the network. It is also capable of performing some processing part. Wireless sensor nodes are consisting microcontroller, transceiver, power management unit (power source), and one or more sensors. For bridge application we have used accelerometer sensors and ultrasonic sensor. The main aim of this project is to minimize the structural damages and prevent the life and property.
