A multidimensional discrete digital chaotic encryption system

In this article, a new multidimensional discrete chaotic system is proposed, and the characteristics and advantages of the multidimensional discrete chaotic system are analyzed. The multidimensional discrete chaotic system is designed using digital technology, and the system has the complexity of hyper-chaotic system, and it can avoid the choice of step size, at the same time, the design of the circuit is simple, the resource occupancy rate is low, it is suitable for the design of digital system, and so on. It can be used in constructing chaotic sequence generator, chaotic encryption, and visual sensor networks.

Behavior analysis for elderly care using a network of low-resolution visual sensors

Recent advancements in visual sensor technologies have made behavior analysis practical for in-home monitoring systems. The current in-home monitoring systems face several challenges: (1) visual sensor calibration is a difficult task and not practical in real-life because of the need for recalibration when the visual sensors are moved accidentally by a caregiver or the senior citizen, (2) privacy concerns, and (3) the high hardware installation cost. We propose to use a network of cheap low-resolution visual sensors (30 x 30 pixels) for long-term behavior analysis. The behavior analysis starts by visual feature selection based on foreground/background detection to track the motion level in each visual sensor. Then a hidden Markov model (HMM) is used to estimate the user's locations without calibration. Finally, an activity discovery approach is proposed using spatial and temporal contexts. We performed experiments on 10 months of real-life data. We show that the HMM approach outperforms the k-nearest neighbor classifier against ground truth for 30 days. Our framework is able to discover 13 activities of daily livings (ADL parameters). More specifically, we analyze mobility patterns and some of the key ADL parameters to detect increasing or decreasing health conditions. (C) The Authors. An affine invariant approach for dense wide baseline image matching

visual sensor networks have emerged as an important class of sensor-based distributed intelligent systems, where image matching is one of the key technologies. This article presents an affine invariant method to produce dense correspondences between uncalibrated wide baseline images. Under affine transformations, both point location and its neighborhood texture are changed between views, so dense matching becomes a tough task. The proposed approach tends to solve this problem within a sparse-to-dense framework. The contribution of this article is in threefolds. First, a strategy of reliable sparse matching is proposed, which starts from affine invariant features extraction and matching and then these initial matches are utilized as spatial prior to produce more sparse matches. Second, match propagation from sparse feature points to its neighboring pixels is conducted in the way of region growing in an affine invariant framework. Third, the unmatched points are handled by low-rank matrix recovery technique. Comparison experiments of the proposed method versus existing ones show a significant improvement in the presence of large affine deformations.

Vision-Based Cooperative Estimation of 3D Target Pose under Imperfect Visibility

This paper investigates vision-based cooperative estimation of a 3D target object pose for visual sensor networks. In our previous works, we presented an estimation mechanism called networked visual motion observer achieving averaging of local pose estimates in real time. This paper extends the mechanism so that it works even in the presence of cameras not viewing the target due to the limited view angles and obstructions in order to fully take advantage of the networked vision system. Then, we analyze the averaging performance attained by the proposed mechanism and clarify a relation between the feedback gains in the algorithm and the performance. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm through simulation.

An Intelligent Cooperative visual sensor Network for Urban Mobility

Smart cities are demanding solutions for improved traffic efficiency, in order to guarantee optimal access to mobility resources available in urban areas. Intelligent video analytics deployed directly on board embedded sensors offers great opportunities to gather highly informative data about traffic and transport, allowing reconstruction of a real-time neat picture of urban mobility patterns. In this paper, we present a visual sensor network in which each node embeds computer vision logics for analyzing in real time urban traffic. The nodes in the network share their perceptions and build a global and comprehensive interpretation of the analyzed scenes in a cooperative and adaptive fashion. This is possible thanks to an especially designed Internet of Things (IoT) compliant middleware which encompasses in-network event composition as well as full support of Machine-2-Machine (M2M) communication mechanism. The potential of the proposed cooperative visual sensor network is shown with two sample applications in urban mobility connected to the estimation of vehicular flows and parking management. Besides providing detailed results of each key component of the proposed solution, the validity of the approach is demonstrated by extensive field tests that proved the suitability of the system in providing a scalable, adaptable and extensible data collection layer for managing and understanding mobility in smart cities.

Secure and Efficient Reactive Video Surveillance for Patient Monitoring

Video surveillance is widely deployed for many kinds of monitoring applications in healthcare and assisted living systems. Security and privacy are two promising factors that align the quality and validity of video surveillance systems with the caliber of patient monitoring applications. In this paper, we propose a symmetric key-based security framework for the reactive video surveillance of patients based on the inputs coming from data measured by a wireless body area network attached to the human body. Only authenticated patients are able to activate the video cameras, whereas the patient and authorized people can consult the video data. User and location privacy are at each moment guaranteed for the patient. A tradeoff between security and quality of service is defined in order to ensure that the surveillance system gets activated even in emergency situations. In addition, the solution includes resistance against tampering with the device on the patient's side.

Block Compressive Sensing (BCS) Based Low Complexity, Energy Efficient visual sensor Platform with Joint Multi-Phase Decoder (JMD)

Devices in a visual sensor network (VSN) are mostly powered by batteries, and in such a network, energy consumption and bandwidth utilization are the most critical issues that need to be taken into consideration. The most suitable solution to such issues is to compress the captured visual data before transmission takes place. Compressive sensing (CS) has emerged as an efficient sampling mechanism for VSN. CS reduces the total amount of data to be processed such that it recreates the signal by using only fewer sampling values than that of the Nyquist rate. However, there are few open issues related to the reconstruction quality and practical implementation of CS. The current studies of CS are more concentrated on hypothetical characteristics with simulated results, rather than on the understanding the potential issues in the practical implementation of CS and its computational validation. In this paper, a low power, low cost, visual sensor platform is developed using an Arduino Due microcontroller board, XBee transmitter, and uCAM-II camera. Block compressive sensing (BCS) is implemented on the developed platform to validate the characteristics of compressive sensing in a real-world scenario. The reconstruction is performed by using the joint multi-phase decoding (JMD) framework. To the best of our knowledge, no such practical implementation using off the shelf components has yet been conducted for CS.

A Fuzzy-Based Approach for Sensing, Coding and Transmission Configuration of visual sensors in Smart City Applications

The advance of technologies in several areas has allowed the development of smart city applications, which can improve the way of life in modern cities. When employing visual sensors in that scenario, still images and video streams may be retrieved from monitored areas, potentially providing valuable data for many applications. Actually, visual sensor networks may need to be highly dynamic, reflecting the changing of parameters in smart cities. In this context, characteristics of visual sensors and conditions of the monitored environment, as well as the status of other concurrent monitoring systems, may affect how visual sensors collect, encode and transmit information. This paper proposes a fuzzy-based approach to dynamically configure the way visual sensors will operate concerning sensing, coding and transmission patterns, exploiting different types of reference parameters. This innovative approach can be considered as the basis for multi-systems smart city applications based on visual monitoring, potentially bringing significant results for this research field.

Optimisation collaborative sense of event area in smart camera networks

Smart camera networks have good application prospects in the future. Smart cameras as video sensors can adjust the focal length and 360 degrees rotations so that they can flexibly observe the surrounding event area. It is an interesting issue how to schedule multiple video sensors for high-quality monitoring of multiple event points in the monitoring area;it is the same as coverage optimisation problem. In fact, this is a combinational optimisation problem. The optimal solution is achieved by adjusting the parameters of multiple sensing nodes. In this paper, the mathematical density condition of sense area covered is deduced firstly. Then, the smart sensor coverage optimisation problem is transformed into an NP-hard combinatorial optimisation issue. A heuristic greedy algorithm and a centralised hybrid algorithm combining the artificial bee colony algorithm with different algorithms are proposed. The algorithms are capable of solving this optimisation problem in different scenes. Finally, some simulations are conducted to contrast the performance of different algorithms. Experimental results show that the algorithms performed better than other similar algorithms in terms of time convergence and sense accuracy with different scenarios.

A survey on compact features for visual content analysis

visual features constitute compact yet effective representations of visual content, and are being exploited in a large number of heterogeneous applications, including augmented reality, image registration, content-based retrieval, and classification. Several visual content analysis applications are distributed over a network and require the transmission of visual data, either in the pixel or in the feature domain, to a central unit that performs the task at hand. Furthermore, large-scale applications need to store a database composed of up to billions of features and perform matching with low latency. In this context, several different implementations of feature extraction algorithms have been proposed over the last few years, with the aim of reducing computational complexity and memory footprint, while maintaining an adequate level of accuracy. Besides extraction, a large body of research addressed the problem of ad-hoc feature encoding methods, and a number of networking and transmission protocols enabling distributed visual content analysis have been proposed. In this survey, we present an overview of state-of-the-art methods for the extraction, encoding, and transmission of compact features for visual content analysis, thoroughly addressing each step of the pipeline and highlighting the peculiarities of the proposed methods.
