Automatic identification of rank correlation between image sequences

Correlation is one of the most common statistical tools and one of the most basic methods for discovery from data. Over the past century, correlation has led to an extremely high number of discoveries in virtually all fields of science and is currently one of the basic building blocks that enable scientific research. In most cases, correlation is detected between numerical variables using tools such as Pearson or Spearman correlation. This paper describes a method that can identify rank correlation between two sequences of images. That is, instead of identifying a rank correlation between two numerical variables, the method identifies rank correlations between two variables such that each variable is an image. Experimental results show that the method is able to detect rank correlations between sequences of synthetic images, as well as sequences of natural images. The method can provide useful information for profiling visual data, and example discoveries that can be made with the method are discussed. Given the prevalence of correlation in data-driven discovery, combined with the increasing size and availability of databases of visual data, identifying rank correlations in image data can provide useful insights and new knowledge from the data. The method is nonparametric and can be applied to various types of image data.

Faster visual Analytics through Pixel-Perfect Aggregation

State-of-the-art visual data analysis tools ignore bandwidth limitations. They fetch millions of records of high-volume time series data from an underlying RDBMS to eventually draw only a few thousand pixels on the screen. In this work, we demonstrate a pixel-aware big data visualization system that dynamically adapts the number of data points transmitted and thus the data rate, while preserving pixel-perfect visualizations. We show how to carefully select the data points to fetch for each pixel of a visualization, using a visualization-driven data aggregation that models the visualization process. De fining all required data reduction operators at the query level, our system trades off a few milliseconds of query execution time for dozens of seconds of data transfer time. The results are significantly reduced response times and a near real-time visualization of millions of data points. Using our pixel-aware system, the audience will be able to enjoy the speed and ease of big data visualizations and learn about the scientific background of our system through an interactive evaluation component, allowing the visitor to measure, visualize, and compare competing visualizationrelated data reduction techniques.

The paper presents the geo-dynamic decision support system (DSS) for urban traffic management issues. For this purpose, ArcGIS and Tableau softwares were used. Additionally, a self-defined transportation model based on Dijkstra's algorithm was created. The use of our own calculation model allowed for the full accessibility to all parameters of the analysed scenarios which was one of the key assumptions of the research. Functionality of the proposed DSS was tested on three scenarios. Each scenario presents congestion on the road network after the conclusion of events in main landmarks in Wroclaw (Poland): the city stadium, the National Forum of Music and the Centennial Hall. The proposed DSS allows for dynamic analysis of urban traffic, including recalculation processes according to the changing congestion on a road network. Moreover, cumulative urban traffic assessment allows you to define hot spots on a network, which should be especially monitored by public services. An interactive dashboard reduces technical details of an analysis which helps to avoid the cognitive problems of the decision making process for a layman. The results prove the feasibility of the integration of the ArcGIS, self-defined transportation model and Tableau. The proposed solution enables full access to the transportation analysis' assumptions, as well as the use of a simple and intuitive interactive dashboard for the decision making process.

Comprehending software clones is necessary for a number of activities in software development. The comprehension of software clones is challenged by the sheer volume of data and the complexity of the information content in that data. visualization, or visual data analysis, takes advantage of human cognitive skills to discover unstructured insights from the visual presentations of complex and voluminous data. In this paper, we survey the existing literature on visualization of software clones. We gather the insights provided, and put that information in context of actual information needs systematically derived from the clone management goals. This framework allows us to better understand the role a visualization may play in achieving a specific user goal, identify potential gaps between existing types of visualization and information needs, and find complementary non-redundant subsets of visualizations for each user goal.

This paper focuses on establishing the need for new architectures on which to build visualisation systems that enhance computer forensic investigation of digital evidence. The issues surrounding processing of large quantities of digital evidence are established. In addition, the cut-rent state of visualisation and data analysis techniques for computer forensics are highlighted. This paper suggests need for new techniques that display data in familiar visual forms that facilitate efficient insight gaining into digital evidence. visualisations techniques also require a source of processed data that contains context relevant information to present to an investigator To this end this paper introduces the notion of data exploitation as a way to describe techniques that provide opportunistic data analysis across multiple sources of digital evidence. data exploitation techniques shall provide normalisation techniques, event correlation, relationship extraction and investigative domain knowledge processing across a set of evidence.

Modern smart city projects are evolving to the next level of data-centric situation awareness and decision makings, thereby requiring much intensive data integration over various data sources made from city space. In order to satisfy a variety of data demands for diverse smart city applications, we have been developing an integrated IoT data service, IoTDA, to provide essential data-oriented services from data collecting to deep learning based data analysis. In this paper, we introduce the overall architecture and functions of the service platform and explain how the platform will be used with a case study of road surface analysis. In particular, we examine how our data service can be connected to public smart city applications and present the common direction that these types of urban data services should provide for advanced city services.

In recent years, wargame has become an important competition in China. The data research of the MiaoSuan Wargame platform provide powerful data computing support for effective decision-making to commanders, who will face a large number of rapidly updated battlefield situation data per second. In this paper, three kinds of damage effect datasets of direct aiming attack, indirect aiming attack and guided aiming attack have been constructed based on the wargame replay big data and the matching map data, and visual data analysis has been carried out. The correlation between the damage effect and each parameter have been analyzed. Preparing for the model of future machine learning algorithm training, which can provide damage effect prediction analysis for commanders decision-making to improve damage effect and attack efficiency.

Analyzing observations over time and geography is a common task but typically requires multiple, separate tools. The objective of our research has been to develop a method to visualize, and work with, the spatial inter-connectedness of information over time and geography within a single, highly interactive 3-D view. A novel visualization technique for displaying and tracking events, objects and activities within a combined temporal and geospatial display has been developed. This technique has been implemented as a demonstratable prototype called GeoTime in order to determine potential utility. Initial evaluations have been with military users. However, we believe the concept is applicable to a variety of government and business analysis tasks.

Natural language interfaces for visualizations have emerged as a promising new way of interacting with data and performing analytics. Many of these systems have fundamental limitations. Most return minimally interactive visualizations in response to queries and often require experts to perform modeling for a set of predicted user queries before the systems are effective. Eviza provides a natural language interface for an interactive query dialog with an existing visualization rather than starting from a blank sheet and asking closed-ended questions that return a single text answer or static visualization. The system employs a probabilistic grammar based approach with predefined rules that are dynamically updated based on the data from the visualization, as opposed to computationally intensive deep learning or knowledge based approaches. The result of an interaction is a change to the view (e.g., filtering, navigation, selection) providing graphical answers and ambiguity widgets to handle ambiguous queries and system defaults. There is also rich domain awareness of time, space, and quantitative reasoning built in, and linking into existing knowledge bases for additional semantics. Eviza also supports pragmatics and exploring multimodal interactions to help enhance the expressiveness of how users can ask questions about their data during the flow of visual analysis.

In this paper we focus on providing coordinated visual strategies to assist users in performing tasks driven by the presence of temporal and spatial attributes. We introduce temporal visualization techniques targeted at such tasks, and illustrate their use with an application involving a climate classification process. The climate classification requires extensive Processing of a database containing daily rain precipitation values collected along over fifty years at several spatial locations in the Sao Paulo state, Brazil. We identify user exploration tasks typically conducted as part of the data preparation required in this process, and then describe how such tasks may be assisted by the multiple visual techniques provided. Issues related to the use of the multiple techniques by an end-user are also discussed.
