Designing a project management e-course by using project based learning

The aim of this study is designing an e-course system for Project Management courses. The primary objective of the system is providing course materials for students and increasing the course success. The e-course platform will assist the students for changing their negative feelings with positive ones such as when they feel anxiety, feel of failing the course or having pre convinced attitudes for the course. The e-course platform will has “Cognitive learning Tool”, “learning Cards for Key Terms”, “Key Term Matching”, “Cognitive Concept Maps” and “Online Adaptive Examination” modules inside. For analyzing the students’ needs a survey was conducted. Survey is organized based on to the first eight steps of project based learning approach. Survey results show that validity of survey is high (Cronbach's alfa, 0.86), and also significant correlations obtained between factors. These results state that e-courses should be supported with project based learning approach and real life projects.

Innovation is the key to success in every sphere of Life. Changes are happening in everyday life and one has to adapt to new situations and face challenges. Technical Education is no exception to this phenomenon. There is need to change curriculum and traditional teaching methods. This paper focuses on 'Change Management' and Re-engineering of Educational processes. IT has enormous potential and we can improve learning processes dramatically with IT as change enabler and innovation happens as a side product. Some of the paradigms discussed are Business Process Re-Engineering, Kaizen, and Six Sigma, e-learning etc. In spite of its complexity and long time taken for its implementation, reengineering the educational processes is the only solution to bring forth drastic changes and improvement in current Educational systems. Some of the problems in implementing BPR are resistance to change and lack of management support etc, resulting in failures. These problems can be circumvented by addressing critical success factors of Re-engineering. E-learning can be used successfully by harnessing the innovations happening in Internet and World Wide web. In recent times emphasis is shifting from Instruction paradigm to learning paradigm and a learner centric approach will promote active learning. A case study was presented which introduces a new paradigm for students, an E-learning system which offers opportunities for alternative form of learning using powerful internet web site content creation, maintenance and web analytic tools.

This paper describes the findings about the use of web 2.0 technologies in the education of health professionals in the United Kingdom (UK). The work is part of a wider study scoping the use of e-learning. Its objectives were to: Explore issues influencing implementation and use by both early and late adopters Identify barriers to implementation and good practice Review the employment of e-learning within curricula representing a range of teaching models In phase one, a postal survey obtained data from 25 higher education institutions relating to their uptake and development in this field. A second phase identified four case studies, two from early and two late adopters, reflecting the features identified from phase one. In the case studies, interviews and focus groups with students and staff were conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the issues which were significant to them. The main findings suggested e-learning development and use varies, with a spectrum of employment across the sector. The predominant engagement is with instructivist learning approaches managed through a Virtual learning Environment with only limited experimentation in interactive learning online. This paper will discuss the findings from the study where they relate to the limited use of web 2.0 technologies. It will include a discussion on the moral, legal and ethical implications of current and future developments.

We present an intelligent tutoring system for teachers, which was designed to support them while they learn and adapt a learning scenario for their teaching. The system is a learning environment where teachers can explore different learning scenarios and get advice on the criteria for choosing among them. Then they choose a "case study" scenario and learn to adapt it to their own context. Different kind of support are given during the interaction with the system, declarative and procedural help is presented as indexed help on each activity, but also as contextual help using a rule based advice system. The system was experimented with eight teachers (four academic and four from industry), who succeeded to adapt the "case study" scenario to their own context. The evaluation and discussion present what help they found more useful and how the system could be improved.

Telehematology is one of educational projects at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. The project has two various parts: the clinical part allows physicians to remotely consult their indefinite findings and the educational part brings new possibilities for contact tuition as well as for effective distant learning in a wide range of medical specialties. In this paper, the project is described mainly from the technical point of view. The design and implementation of the shared digital image repository are explained here.

New visualization tools for learning molecular symmetry: a preliminary evaluation

A website that helps students visualize and locate symmetry elements on three-dimensional molecular structures was developed. It includes textual explanations, an interactive example window and a Microsoft-Excel based symmetry toolkit that enables students to draw symmetry elements in three dimensions. Preliminary qualitative research aimed at exploring how students learned with this tool was performed. It was found that the three-dimensional graphical capabilities of the toolkit (1) helped students overcome difficulties in three-dimensional visualization, (2) enabled students to find symmetry elements of complex molecules generally not accessible from drawings and (3) contributed to a deeper understanding of molecular structure and chemical symmetry.

Academic fraud is widespread in secondary education. While several studies have focused on the causes of cheating within the traditional, face-to-face learning environment, few studies examine academic fraud in online learning. Those few studies of online academic fraud focus on plagiarism detection and prevention. This paper presents a case study of academic fraud in an online Latin class. Subjects were interviewed in an attempt to identify the factors which encourage cheating within online learning environments, the methods by which students commit academic fraud, and student attitudes towards cheating. A clearer understanding of academic fraud in distance programs will allow educators to better design their courses.
