In order to solve the problem of over-segmentation of bridge fractures by the watershed algorithm, an improved watershed segmentation algorithm based on threshold marker is proposed. Firstly, the original gradient image is obtained from the gray image by using morphological operation, and the second-order Butterworth low-pass filtering is performed on the original gradient image to obtain the low-frequency component of the gradient image. And then apply the best threshold for the use of Otsu method to be applied to the morphological extended minimum transform technique, and the technique is used to extract the local minimum value which is highly correlated with the bridge crack feature information from the low frequency components of the gradient image;Finally, the original gradient image is used to compose the minimum gradient of the original gradient image to obtain the modified gradient image, and watershed segmentation is performed on these gradient images. The experimental results show that the crack image of the bridge is accurate and clear, and the over-segmentation phenomenon is effectively reduced.

Crop leaf segmentation was one important research content in agricultural machine vision applications. In order to study and solve the segmentation problem of occlusive leaves, an improved watershed algorithm was proposed in this paper. Firstly, the color threshold component(G-R)/(G+R) was used to extract the green component of the cotton leaf image and remove the shadow and invalid background. Then the lifting wavelet algorithm and Canny operator were applied to extract the edge of the pre-processed image to extract cotton leaf region and enhance the leaf edge. Finally, the image of the leaf was labeled with morphological methods to improve the traditional watershed algorithm. By comparing the cotton leaf area segmented using the proposed algorithm with the manually extracted cotton leaf area, successful rates for all the images were higher than 97 %. The results not only demonstrated the effectiveness of the algorithm, but also laid the foundation for the construction of cotton growth monitoring system.

However, the segmentation and extraction of building boundary in mountainous area has always been a difficult problem to be solved. Therefore, it is particularly important to carry out the research on the segmentation and extraction of building boundary in mountainous area. In this paper, based on the traditional watershed algorithm, the gray image gradient operator and morpho-logical opening and closing operation are combined to improve the accuracy of image segmentation in mountainous area, and the experimental results are quantified by structural similarity to verify the improved algorithmwatershed algorithm is superior to traditional water-shed algorithm in building segmentation accuracy of high-resolution remote sensing image in multi mountainous area.

This article based on the HSV color model, make full use of the color and brightness of image, by setting the brightness of the threshold to deal the image with binarization processing, then travel through the median filter to deal the noise of the image, finally uses the mathematical morphology watershed algorithm to realize the separation of target and background. in order to separate touching corn kernels in digital image,this paper made the improvement to the watershed algorithm,this improved method can resolve the problems of 'algorithm-over-segmentation'and'leakage',and realized automatic segmentation of touching corn ***,in order to get the pretreatment image,Wiener filter and mathematical morphology were adopted to reduce noises and clarify background of the image;secondly,by combining with tow edge detection operators,the boundary of touching corn kernels was determined in the image,which can serve as watershed of the algorithm;thirdly,erode transform was used to construct basin of the algorithm;at last,the algorithm of purifying image background was proposed,solving the problem of'leakage'.The results of experiment showed that the correction rate of segmentation is 94%by this automatic segmentation method.

Moving shadow detection is an important task in computer vision, with applications several fields, such as surveillance, video conference, visual tracking and object recognition. In this paper, we present a Spatio-Temporal based Moving Shadow Detection (STMSD) method, The main idea is: according to the gradient change of current image, we utilize the watershed algorithm to achieve adaptive segmentation foreground sub-regions;Then, the changes in texture of adjacent video frames and current video frame and background are extracted, and each sub-region is classified in terms of texture feature to obtain the final moving shadow and target area. Extensive experiments demonstrate that STMSD is superior to some well-known methods especially pixel-based methods. Especially, our method exhibits much better performance compared with fixed block method, which can maintain the texture consistency in one region adequately.

Firstly contours of different color area are extracted automatically with improved watershed algorithm. Segmentation of image regions based on their texture is a standard problem in image analysis. Once a set of texture features is selected, several algorithms can be applied to segment the image into regions. This paper presents an extension of the watershed algorithm using a vector gradient and multivariate region merging methods. The algorithm uses a set of texture images, and it only depends on an adjustable parameter.
