A web Browser Fingerprinting Method Based on the web audio api

web Browser Fingerprinting is a process in which the users are, with high likelihood, uniquely identified by the extracted features from their devices, generating an identifier key (fingerprint). Although it can be used for malicious purposes, especially regarding privacy invasion, web Browser Fingerprinting can also be used to enhance security (e.g. as a factor in two-factor authentication). This paper investigates the use of web audio api as a web Browser Fingerprinting method capable of identifying the devices. The idea is to prove or not if audio can provide features capable to identify users and devices. Our initial results show that the proposed method is capable of identifying the device's class, based on features like device's type, web browser's version and rendering engine.

We present the Flow framework(1), a front-end framework for interactive web applications built on the web audio api. It encourages a purely declarative approach to application design by providing a number of abstractions for the creation of HTML, audio processing graphs, and event listeners. In doing so we place the burden of tracking and managing state solely on to the framework rather than the developer. We introduce the Model-View-Update architecture and how it applies to audio application design. The MVU architecture is built on the unidirectional flow of data through pure functions, pushing side effects onto the framework's runtime. Flow conceptualises the audio graph as another View into application state, and uses this conceptualisation to enforce strict separation of the audio and visual output of an application. Future plans for the framework include a robust plug-in system to add support for third-party audio nodes, a time travelling debugger to replay sequences of actions to the runtime, and a bespoke programming language that better aligns with Flow's functional influences.

Blind users browse the web using screen readers. Screen readers read the content on a web page sequentially via synthesized speech. The linear nature of this process makes it difficult to obtain an overview of the web page, which creates navigation challenges. To alleviate this problem, we have developed ScreenTrack, a browser extension that summarizes a web page's accessibility features into a short, dynamically generated soundtrack. Users can quickly gain an overview of the presence of web elements useful for navigation on a web page. Here we describe ScreenTrack and discuss future research plans.

This thesis examines the viability of audio synthesis and effects processing in open web with and within a web browser. Two use cases are presented: local audio synthesis in web browser utilizing PNaCl and Emscripten technologies, and audio synthesis as a service utilizing web Sockets and webRTC technologies. Devised test procedures aim to find out the end-to-end audio latency and polyphony performance of the implemented systems. The second use case is also examined from general perspective on distributed audio applications by gained experience while doing this work. After a short introduction the thesis present more thorough background to the subject and describes the related concepts and used technologies. The use cases and test procedures and settings are introduced next along with measured re- sults. The results are analysed and discussed after and finally the conclusions are presented. The lowest latency was achieved with PNaCl measuring 39 milliseconds for real- time audio synthesis in web browser, being on the par with baseline measure- ments with native desktop performance. The lowest latency for Emscripten was measured to be 48 milliseconds. In the second use case, webRTC achieved 833 millisecond latency and web Sockets implementation was found to be inappli- cable for real-time streaming not being able to produce clean audio playback.

Dynamic music is gaining increasing popularity outside of its initial environment, the videogame industry, and is gradually becoming an autonomous medium. Responsible for this is doubtlessly the prevalence of integrated multisensory platforms such as smartphones as well as the omnipresence of the internet as a provider of content on demand. The music format Dynamic Music Objects builds on these assumptions and on recent advances in music information retrieval and semantic web technologies. It is capable of describing a multitude of adaptive, interactive, and immersive musical experiences. This paper introduces the Dymo Designer, a prototypical web app that allows people to create and analyze Dynamic Music Objects in a visual, interactive, and computer-assisted way.

本论文研究试图以网页浏览器为开发核心，运用新兴web audio api网页音讯技术与HTML5 Canvas动画技术做相互整合，实现声音颗粒合成法在网页程式上执行的可能性，并透过***后端开发框架将网页颗粒合成与webSocket的即时连线技术做整合，让系统使用者可以即时地在跨地域的环境下进行声景录音，并进一步将录制的声景资讯上传至系统伺服器端建立声景音档；最终所录制的音档则能够让不同场域下的使用者，透过网路来共同实现跨地域性之颗粒合成声响互动；使用者们可以在此系统介面上同步进行声景声响的声音合成，而最终所调变的声响则能够在跨地域的浏览器之间进行同步聆听的声音互动整合应用。本研究透过颗粒合成之相关文献来探讨声音颗粒的来由与存在性，以及颗粒合成声响所存在的连续性与非连续性的特质；另一方面则透过Dennis Gabor的声音颗粒机器与Iannis Xenakis的声云概念中获得网路同步协作概念与声音颗粒合成法之间做相互结合的启发。此外，透过颗粒合成概念之相关应用程式、装置艺术、录像艺术作品的实作探讨，同时归纳出颗粒合成声响在听觉上所具有“微观与巨观的联动”，以及“亲切感与陌生化的消长”的共存性特征，使颗粒合成法产生多元听觉层次的价值性。此价值也进一步与网路艺术之特性做创意性的连结，并借由对网路艺术特性之归纳来针对本声音颗粒合成互动系统做进一步的声音互动设计。最终，本系统的整体声响性与介面互动设计上共同承袭了颗粒合成之概念外，更在即时录音与即时声音互动合成的技术突破上，使本系统达成网际网路的共享性与网路社群协作之概念，将跨地域的声景能够在共享的架构下，透过网路科技的各种媒体应用推升到新的互动层次与聆听层次。

States of Diffusion is a participative audio installation artwork that explores patterns of sound transformation that move through space as they evolve spectrally. Six one-minute segments exploring themes of intonation and timing of events across possibly many different audio sources are coordinated via a web server. The spatial diffusion flows through mobile devices held by visitors to the gallery. Visitors also exert a subtle influence over sound through the movement of their device and their movement through the gallery.

Some studies have been reporting encouraging results concerning the possibilities of combining voice and its visual representation for language learning. Following this line of investigation this paper explores the potential impact of two distinct visualization styles for the learning of English pronunciation of syllables for non-native speakers: a) highlighting syllables and b) the visualization of the produced sound wave. In order to evaluate the benefits of the two different styles three distinct digital tool prototypes were created in order to test four study conditions. The conditions under evaluation were a) teaching syllables without the support of any digital tool;b) teaching using a prototype that highlighted the syllables under study;c) using a prototype that displayed the sound wave of the syllable to be learnt and d) a prototype that combined the functionality of b) and c). Results suggest that the combined approach seems to be as effective as the traditional classroom approach of teaching the syllables. However, more research is needed in order to consolidate the findings, being able to explore in more detail how is the learning process occurring and to what extend the tools developed can be integrated into classroom practice.
