Vangueria madagascariensis J. F. Gmel. is a plant species regarded as an important fruit tree and medicinal plant in sub-Saharan Africa. This study critically reviewed the nutritional value, phytochemistry, medicinal uses, and pharmacological properties of V. madagascariensis. Relevant information on food and medicinal uses of the species was collected from electronic databases such as ISI web of Knowledge, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, OATD, Scopus, Open Thesis, PubMed, and Google Scholar, and preelectronic literatures were obtained from the university library covering the period 1966 to 2018. Literature studies revealed that V. madagascariensis has been integrated into farming systems as a fruit tree to support income and nutritional security of households in the region. Vangueria madagascariensis is used as a herbal medicine against diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, malaria, pain, parasitic worms, and skin diseases. Phytochemical compounds identified from the species include alcohols, aldehydes, esters, furanoids, ketones, and terpenoids. Pharmacological studies revealed that V. madagascariensis extracts have antibacterial, anticonvulsant, antidiabetic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cytotoxicity, antimalarial, and antiplasmodial properties. Vangueria madagascariensis should be subjected to detailed nutritional, pharmacological, and toxicological evaluations aimed at correlating the traditional uses of the species and the scientific evidence as well as establishing the efficacy, clinical relevance, safety, and mechanisms of action of the plant extracts and compounds.

This paper presents a new solution for making existing web-databases accessible for semantic agents. Instead of adding semantic annotations to a page itself or publishing the content separately, the elements of a web-page are annotated and published in an external file, maybe even on an external site. A semantic agent can use these annotations like an instruction manual to find out how to interpret the page's content and how to access databases such as product catalogues, price lists or technical specifications for components. Since these annotations can be published separately from the actual page, anyone can annotate any website and make it accessible for semantic agents.

Educational content available on the web is playing an important role in the teaching and learning process. Learners search for different types of learning objects such as videos, pictures, and blog articles and use them to understand concepts they are studying in books and articles. The current search platforms provided can be frustrating to use. Either they are not specified for educational purposes or they are provided as a service by a library or a repository for searching a limited dataset of educational content. This paper presents a novel system for automatic harvesting and connecting of medical educational objects based on biomedical ontologies. The challenge in this work is to transform disjoint heterogeneous web databases entries into one coherent linked dataset. First, harvesting APIs were developed for collecting content from various web sources such as YouTube, blogging platforms, and PubMed library. Then, the system maps its entries into one data model and annotates its content using biomedical ontologies to enable its linkage. The resulted dataset is organized in a proposed NoSQL RDF Triple Store which consists of 2720 entries of articles, videos, and blogs. We tested the system using different ontologies for enriching its content such as MeSH and SNOMED CT and compared the results obtained. Using SNOMED CT doubled the number of linkages built between the dataset entries. Experiments of querying the dataset is conducted and the results are promising compared with simple text-based search.

Purpose - This article aims to explore how to incorporate similarity joins into XML database management systems (XDBMSs). The authors aim to provide seamless and efficient integration of similarity joins on tree-structured data into an XDBMS architecture. Design/methodology/approach - The authors exploit XDBMS-specific features to efficiently generate XML tree representations for similarity matching. In particular, the authors push down a large part of the structural similarity evaluation close to the storage layer. Findings - Empirical experiments were conducted to measure and compare accuracy, performance and scalability of the tree similarity join using different similarity functions and on the top of different storage models. The results show that the authors' proposal delivers performance and scalability without hurting the accuracy. Originality/value - Similarity join is a fundamental operation for data integration. Unfortunately, none of the XDBMS architectures proposed so far provides an efficient support for this operation. Evaluating similarity joins on XML is challenging, because it requires similarity matching on the text and structure. In this work, the authors integrate similarity joins into an XDBMS. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this work is the first to leverage the storage scheme of an XDBMS to support XML similarity join processing.

The article discusses web documents related to missing model parameters in Bayesians methods to quantile regression. Topics discussed include approach of using asymmetric Laplace distribution (ALD) to evaluate parameter of quantile regression objective function, using Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) with ALD approach to evaluate inference and composite quantile regression models to estimate several models.

Purpose - NoSQL databases do not require a default schema associated with the data. Even that, they are categorized by data models. A model associated with the data can promote better strategies for persistence and manipulation of data in the target database. Based on this motivation, the purpose of this paper is to present an approach for logical design of NoSQL document databases that consists a process that converts a conceptual modeling into efficient logical representations for a NoSQL document database. The authors also evaluate their approach and demonstrate that the generated NoSQL logical structures reduce the amount of data items accessed by queries. Design/methodology/approach - This paper presents an approach for logical design of NoSQL document database schemas based on a conceptual schema. The authors generate compact and redundancy-free schemas and define appropriate representations in a NoSQL document logical model. The estimated volume of data and workload information can be considered to generate optimized NoSQL document structures. Findings - This approach was evaluated through a case study with an experimental evaluation in the e-commerce application domain. The results demonstrate that the authors' workload-based conversion process improves query performance on NoSQL documents by reducing the number of database accesses. Originality/value - Unlike related work, the reported approach covers all typical conceptual constructs, details a conversion process between conceptual schemas and logical representations for NoSQL document database category and, additionally, considers the estimated database workload to perform optimizations in the logical structure. An experimental evaluation shows that the proposed approach is promising.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to presents an interactive conjoint analysis web-based system that allows the problems of traditional conjoint analysis to be avoided. In the case of a product with lot of parameters, respondents' tacit preferences may be difficult to understand for marketing analysis. To get a precise analysis, respondents must be allowed to reconsider and correct by themselves their evaluations with an adapted tool. Design/methodology/approach - This system also helps respondents to easily evaluate complex product profiles and to be involved in the evaluation process, which also leads to the creation of new knowledge for product design. As this system is designed for marketers and for respondents, this paper also presents the case of a product evaluation with attributes selectable by respondents. Findings - This paper is based on empirical experiment to obtain an efficient design of our system. The authors propose different evaluation scenario to usersto decide the design of our system. The authors want to include users in our evaluation process;however, we found that too much liberty for users can interfere with our objective. Originality/value - This paper present the design of our original system allowing to perform interactive conjoint analysis.
