ObjectiveEfficiently managing sea lice on salmon farms through active surveillance, crucial for lice abundance estimation, is challenging due to the need for effective sampling schemes. To address this, we developed an application that considers infestation levels, farm structure, and management protocols, enhancing the precision of sampling strategies for sea louse abundance ***-based methods are valuable for estimating suitable sample sizes in complex studies where standard formulae are inadequate. We introduce FishSampling, an open web-based application tailored to determine precise sample sizes for specific scenarios and *** model incorporates factors such as sea lice abundance, farm pen numbers, potential clustering effects among these pens, and the desired confidence level. Simulation outcomes within this application provide practical advice on how to decide on the number of fish and pens to sample, under varying levels of assumed *** approach can be used across the salmon aquaculture sector to improve sampling strategies for sea lice abundance estimation and balance surveillance costs against health objectives. Northern Ireland faces a considerable challenge in adequately supporting special education needs with limited resources for effective learning and communication. Despite efforts, a significant number of non-verbal individuals grapple with communication barriers, both in face-to-face interactions and digital communication. This paper presents an initial prototype of a web-based application solution that supports non-verbal and limited communication. The proposed solution provides an accessible, user-friendly platform that enhances the ability of individuals with non-verbal and limited communication to communicate effectively in both the natural world and in the digital environment. The usability of this initial prototype was evaluated by relatives and carers of non-verbal individuals using the System Usability Scale (SUS) to identify any aspects that could be improved before presenting a first version to potential users. Results of an average SUS score of 84.8 confirm the user-friendly and intuitive features of the web-based application and highlight some usability aspects that could be improved in the next version of the solution.

Smart cities are urban areas that use contemporary technology to improve citizens' overall quality of life. These modern digital civil hubs aim to manage environmental conditions, traffic flow, and infrastructure through interconnected and data-driven decision-making systems. Today, many applications employ intelligent sensors for real-time data acquisition, leveraging visualization to derive actionable insights. However, despite the proliferation of such platforms, challenges like high data volume, noise, and incompleteness continue to hinder practical visual analysis. As missing data is a frequent issue in visualizing those urban sensing systems, our approach prioritizes their correction as a fundamental step. We deploy a hybrid imputation strategy combining SARIMAX, k-nearest neighbors, and random forest regression to address this. Building on this foundation, we propose an interactive web-based pipeline that processes, analyzes, and presents the sensor data provided by Basel's "Smarte Strasse". Our platform receives and projects environmental measurements, i.e., NO2, O3, PM2.5, and traffic noise, as well as mobility indicators such as vehicle speed and type, parking occupancy, and electric vehicle charging behavior. By resolving gaps in the data, we provide a solid foundation for high-fidelity and quality visual analytics. Built on the Flask web framework, the platform incorporates performance optimizations through Flask-Caching. Concerning the user's dashboard, it supports interactive exploration via dynamic charts and spatial maps. This way, we demonstrate how future internet technologies permit the accessibility of complex urban sensor data for research, planning, and public engagement. Lastly, our open-source web-based application keeps reproducible, privacy-aware urban analytics.

Heuristic Evaluation of a web-based application to Deliver a Home-based Personalized Physical Exercise Program for Older Adults

It is crucial to assess the usability of digital health applications to promote physical exercise since problems with usability could lead to errors in utilization, which may result in accidents such as falls. Heuristic evaluation has been applied in different areas, including applications to promote healthy and active aging. The objective of this study was to evaluate the usability of the two user interfaces (i.e., the practitioner interface and the participant interface) of a web-based application to deliver a home-based personalized physical exercise program for older adults using the heuristic evaluation method. The Heuristic Evaluation System Checklist (HESC) was used, and three evaluators analysed both user interfaces. The results indicate that there were minor usability issues in both interfaces, and that the web-based application presents good usability. Out of the 292 checklist sub-heuristics of the HESC Checklist, 183 in the practitioner interface were compliant, ten were not compliant, and 99 were not applicable. Similarly, 172 sub-heuristics in the participant interface were compliant, eight were not compliant, and 112 were not applicable. The study highlighted that heuristic evaluation generates a considerable amount of objective information, providing an exhaustive identification of aspects that require improvement.

A randomized controlled trial to evaluate the use of a web-based application to manage medications during in vitro fertilization

Objective: To evaluate the use of a web-based application that assists in medication management during in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Design: Multicenter randomized controlled trial. Setting: University hospitals. Patient(s): Women undergoing IVF. Intervention(s): Subjects were recruited to assess quality of life during IVF and were randomly assigned to use either the OnTrack application to assist with medication management or conventional medication management. Surveys were administered at four time points. Main Outcome Measure(s): Medication surplus, incidence of medication errors, amount of patient-initiated communication, and patient satisfaction. Result(s): A total of 153 women participated. The average number of portal messages and telephone calls was similar between groups. Twelve patients in the control group (12/69, 17.4%) and 8 patients in the case group (8/72, 11.1%) made medication errors. There were similar amounts of medication surplus in the two groups. The estimated cost of medication waste was $2,578 +/- $2,056 in the control group and $2,554 +/- $1,855 in the case group. Patient satisfaction was similar between the two groups. Conclusion(s): Use of a web-based application did not decrease medication errors, medication surplus, or patient-initiated messages. Many patients had a medication surplus, which can be an area of cost reduction during IVF. Clinical Trial Registration Number: *** NCT03383848. (Fertil Sterile 2021;116:793-800. Background: Electrolyte disturbances are highly heterogeneous and severely affect the prognosis of critically ill patients. Our study was to determine whether data-driven phenotypes of seven electrolytes have prognostic relevance in critically ill patients. Methods: We extracted patient information from three large independent public databases, and clustered the electrolyte distribution of ICU patients based on the extreme value, median value and coefficient of variation of electrolytes. Three plausible clinical phenotypes were calculated using K-means clustering algorithm as the basic clustering method. MIMIC-IV was considered a training set, and two others have been designated as verification set. The robustness of the model was then validated from different angles, providing dynamic and interactive visual charts for more detailed characterization of phenotypes. Results: 15,340, 12,445 and 2147 ICU patients with electrolyte records during early ICU stay in MIMIC-IV, eICU-CRD and AmsterdamUMCdb were enrolled. After clustering, three reasonable and interpretable phenotypes are defined as alpha, beta and gamma according to the order of clusters. The alpha and gamma phenotype, with significant differences in electrolyte distribution and clinical variables, higher 28-day mortality and longer length of ICU stay (p < 0.001), was further demonstrated by robustness analysis. The alpha phenotype has significant kidney injury, while the beta phenotype has the best prognosis. In addition, the assignment methods of the three phenotypes were developed into a web-based tool for further verification and application. Conclusions: Three different clinical phenotypes were identified that correlated with electrolyte distribution and clinical outcomes. Further validation and characterization of these phenotypes is warranted.

BackgroundChild abuse is one of the major health and social problems in the world and has severe short-term and long-term consequences on children's psychological, social and physical functioning. One of the effective strategies to control and prevent child abuse is training parent through web-based applications. The aim of this study is to design and evaluation of child abuse web-based application for parent education and *** study is an applied-developmental study that performed in Razi Educational and Therapeutic Center in Tabriz. The study consisted of three main phases. The requirements assessment and design phases were completed between November 2022 and February 2023. The research community was parents referring to Razi Center and convenience sampling was used to select the samples. In firststage, a questionnaire was designed by searching in library sources and consulting with specialists for needs assessment and application design. The questionnaire was completed by psychiatric specialists, health information management and health information ***, the usability of designed application was evaluated with the participation of 30 parents and *** on the identified information elements and capabilities, a child abuse web-based application was designed. application capabilities were such as concepts of child abuse, prevention and treatment strategies, parenting skills, childrens behavioral disorders, child abuse laws and interaction with clinical specialists. Healthcare professionals' perceptions of a web-based application for using the new National Medication List in Sweden

ObjectiveDuring the first stage of implementing the National Medication List in Sweden, a web-based application called Forskrivningskollen (FK) was launched. FK includes information about a patient's prescribed and dispensed medications, and it works as a backup system until the healthcare electronic health record (EHR) systems are fully integrated. The aim of this study was to examine the healthcare professionals' experiences and perceptions of FK. MethodsThe study applied a mixed methods approach, with statistics about the use of FK and a survey with open and closed questions. The respondents (n = 288) were healthcare professionals who were users or potential users of FK. ResultsOverall there was little knowledge about FK and uncertainty regarding working routines and the regulations connected to the application. Lack of interoperability with the EHRs made FK time-consuming to use. Respondents said that the information in FK was not updated, and they were concerned that using FK could lead to a false sense of security about the accuracy of the list. Most clinical pharmacists thought FK added benefit to their clinical work, while as a group, physicians were more ambivalent about FK's benefit. ConclusionsThe concerns of healthcare professionals give important insights for future implementation of shared medication lists. Working routines and regulations linked to FK need to be clarified. In Sweden, the potential value of a national shared medication list will probably not be realized until it is fully integrated into the EHR in a way that supports healthcare professionals' desired ways of working.

Assessment of clinical pharmacist interventions using a web-based application in a Saudi Arabian Tertiary Hospital

Objectives: Medication-related problems are a top concern of clinical pharmacists. Medication-related problems can cause patient harm and increase the number of visits, hospital admissions, and length of hospital stay. The objective was to assess clinical pharmacy medication-related problem-related interventions in a tertiary care ***: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) between June 2021 and June 2022. The data were extracted monthly from a new web-based Microsoft Excel application documenting medication-related problems during any stage of the medication use ***: A total of 5310 medication-related problem-related interventions in 1494 patients were performed. The departments associated with the highest frequency of medication-related problem-related interventions were the critical care unit (26.9%), intensive care unit (23.8%), anticoagulation clinic (17.1%), medical ward (11.3%), and nephrology unit (6.8%). The most common type of medication-related problem-related interventions included inappropriate dosage regimens (25.6%), monitoring drug effect or therapeutic drug monitoring (24.4%), requirement of additional drug therapy (21.9%), and inappropriate drug selection (14.1%). The proposed interventions were accepted by physicians in 97% of the incidents. The most frequent medication classes associated with medication-related problem-related interventions were cardiovascular agents (47.6%), antimicrobial agents (27.2%), and nutrition and blood substitute agents (11.4%). The most frequent medication groups associated with medication-related problem-related interventions were anticoagulants (25.6%) and antibiotics (25.2%).Conclusions: The current findings characterize the medication-related problem-related interventions addressed in clinical pharmacy at a tertiary care setting. The new consumption behaviors and environmental awareness are pushing the textile apparel industry to profound transformations. Co-design and production on demand are two success factors for this paradigm shift but require efficient and practical tools for companies. In this context, the European H2020 FBD_BModel project provides to practitioner a suitable digital platform. More specifically for the supply chain management, efficient and well-known algorithms are implemented in an user-friendly web-based application composed of two modules. The first module aims at selecting suppliers with multi criteria decision making techniques. This is particularly important to deal with a huge variety of products and a large number of small factories with their own features. The second modules proposed a genetic algorithm-based optimization for order scheduling and supplier allocation. In a demand driven strategy, this task is crucial to reach the requirements in terms of cost and lead time. This paper provides a brief description of the methods implemented in the web-based application. A numerical example, based on real data of the industrial partners of the FBD_Bmodel project, shows the results obtained with the proposed solution.
