Aridity occurs due to natural factors like droughts, changing weather patterns, and fluctuations in precipitation and temperature, impacting agriculture, wildlife, the economy, and the environment. Monitoring these phenomena is vital for understanding their impact on past, present, and future arid zones. The purpose of this project was to create a web-based geotechnological platform for monitoring arid regions in northwest Mexico (SADEWAridMonitor). A key component of the methodology involved integrating various computational tools, including web servers, map servers, database servers, programming languages, geographic information system libraries, and web development tools. The web platform handled all geoprocessing tasks and displayed maps of arid regions along with related data. Consequently, the platform generates maps of dry areas in the past, present, and future. Additionally, users have the option to download arid zone maps and associated factors, which can be viewed in any Geographic Information systems software.

In this paper, a web-based system oriented toward students of surveying engineering and photogrammetry is presented. This application allows student self-evaluation of the calculations and problems involved in practical work. Students can evaluate their calculations before the final evaluation, minimizing the usual mistakes, primarily those of calculation errors. The evaluation of this system is based on the numbers and types of access to the system;the results of a satisfaction survey;and, primarily, a test of the proposed learning methodology. These results have demonstrated the viability of the tool developed in this project with regard to achieving the main objective, which consists of the students' self-evaluation of their calculations and assimilation of the causes of their mistakes. The system is therefore shown to reinforce and stimulate autonomous learning. (C) 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers.

Data visualisation is an essential tool for effective communication and interpretation of information. Visualisation of information using images is easier compared to numerical values. Google Earth provides a platform for a practical monitoring site visualisation system. A real-time web-based water quality monitoring system was deployed on Google Earth based on National Water Quality Index of Malaysia (NWQI). The system used graphical representation through vary shape and colour for easy interpretation of water quality status. NWQI index uses;pH, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids and ammonical nitrogen. The use of different colour, shades of a hue and shapes for the system can motivate public to participate in environmental conservation. The colour used to represent WQI value on the map is derived from a single hue scheme of different quantities which produce varying brightness and shades. web-based WQI index can be used to identify pollution sources based on the graphical representation of water quality trend. The system is assessed by evaluating spatial variations water quality of a river in Peninsular Malaysia known as Langat River for 2005, 2010 and 2015. Recently, with the development of electronic technology, information technology (IT) devices that satisfy user requirements, such as PMP (Portable Multimedia Player), PDA (Personal Data Assistant), UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer) and mobile phones have been developed. These devices are making wireless communication and network communication more accessible, and by the ubiquitous paradigm, provide accessibility of information everywhere. The appearance of these devices and the development of the technology are integrating and converging in the IT devices. Therefore, there are significant changes in the purpose and environment of IT device applications. This is due to the modification of the environment in which the device is used (not only in a passive state but also in a motional state), which has a greater influence on usability. Therefore, a new methodology is required to evaluate the usability of the devices. In previous studies, by gathering and integrating the usability factors and ubiquitous characteristics, the Ubiquitous Evaluation Factor was obtained. For each factor of ubiquitous devices, deconstruction was accomplished for each usability evaluation. Through this process, components of ubiquitous devices could be extracted. Evaluation scores of ubiquitous device components and the score of the evaluation of each usability factor could be obtained from the usability evaluation. This evaluation framework was developed as a web-based system to let the users perform the usability evaluation without having trouble with the location. This system was developed in Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition platform. web Server IIS (Internet Information Server) 6.0 was used, and MS-SQL 2000 was used for the database server. For development of language, ASP (Active Server Page) was used, which is run in IIS. This study is meaningful in that through a web-based system, various people could easily access the device, and in that evaluation of a portion of the device

Objective: The purpose of this study is to describe the methodological innovations of a web-based system for storage, integration and computation of biomedical data, using a training imaging dataset to remotely compute a deep neural network classifier of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). Methods: This study imaging dataset consisted of three-dimensional (3D) surface meshes of mandibular condyles constructed from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The training dataset consisted of 259 condyles, 105 from control subjects and 154 from patients with diagnosis of TMJ OA. For the image analysis classification, 34 right and left condyles from 17 patients (39.9 +/- 11.7 years), who experienced signs and symptoms of the disease for less than 5 years, were included as the testing dataset. For the integrative statistical model of clinical, biological and imaging markers, the sample consisted of the same 17 test OA subjects and 17 age and sex matched control subjects (39.4 +/- 15.4 years), who did not show any sign or symptom of OA. For these 34 subjects, a standardized clinical questionnaire, blood and saliva samples were also collected. The technological methodologies in this study include a deep neural network classifier of 3D condylar morphology (ShapeVariationAnalyzer, SVA), and a flexible web-based system for data storage, computation and integration (DSCI) of high dimensional imaging, clinical, and biological data. Results: The DSCI system trained and tested the neural network, indicating 5 stages of structural degenerative changes in condylar morphology in the TMJ with 91% close agreement between the clinician consensus and the SVA classifier. The DSCI remotely ran with a novel application of a statistical analysis, the Multivariate Functional Shape Data Analysis, that computed high dimensional correlations between shape 3D coordinates, clinical pain levels and levels of biological markers, and then graphically displayed the computation results. Spatial data and related technologies have proven to be crucial for effective collaborative decision-making in disaster management. However, there are currently substantial problems with availability, access and usage of reliable, up-to-date and accurate data for disaster management. This is a very important aspect to disaster response as timely, up-to-date and accurate spatial data describing the current situation is paramount to successfully responding to an emergency. This includes information about available resources, access to roads and damaged areas, required resources and required disaster response operations that should be available and accessible for use in a short period of time. Any problem or delay in data collection, access, usage and dissemination has negative impacts on the quality of decision-making and hence the quality of disaster response. Therefore, it is necessary to utilize appropriate frameworks and technologies to resolve current spatial data problems for disaster management. This paper aims to address the role of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) as a framework for the development of a web-based system as a tool for facilitating disaster management by resolving current problems with spatial data. It is argued that the design and implementation of an SDI model and consideration of SDI development factors and issues, together with development of a web-based GIs, can assist disaster management agencies to improve the quality of their decision-making and increase efficiency and effectiveness in all levels of disaster management activities. The paper is based on an ongoing research project on the development of an SDI conceptual model and a prototype web-based system which can facilitate sharing, access and usage of spatial data in disaster management, particularly disaster response. Background and objectives: Dry eye disease is a public health problem, whose multifactorial etiology challenges clinicians and researchers making necessary the collaboration between different experts and centers. The evaluation of the interference patterns observed in the tear film lipid layer is a common clinical test used for dry eye diagnosis. However, it is a time-consuming task with a high degree of intra- as well as inter-observer variability, which makes the use of a computer-based analysis system highly desirable. This work introduces iDEAS (Dry Eye Assessment system), a web-based application to support dry eye diagnosis. Methods: iDEAS provides a framework for eye care experts to collaboratively work using image-based services in a distributed environment. It is composed of three main components: the web client for user interaction, the web application server for request processing, and the service module for image analysis. Specifically, this manuscript presents two automatic services: tear film classification, which classifies an image into one interference pattern;and tear film map, which illustrates the distribution of the patterns over the entire tear film. Results: iDEAS has been evaluated by specialists from different institutions to test its performance. Both services have been evaluated in terms of a set of performance metrics using the annotations of different experts. Note that the processing time of both services has been also measured for efficiency purposes. Conclusions: iDEAS is a web-based application which provides a fast, reliable environment for dry eye assessment. The system allows practitioners to share images, clinical information and automatic assessments between remote computers. Additionally, it save time for experts, diminish the inter-expert variability and can be used in both clinical and research settings. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.

We introduce a web-based clinical decision support system (CDSS) and knowledge maintenance based on rules and a set covering method focusing on the problem of detecting serious comorbidities in hemato-oncological patients who are at high risk of developing serious infections and life threatening complications. We experienced that diagnostic problems which are characterized by fuzzy, uncertain knowledge and overlapping signs, still reveal some kind of patterns that can be transferred into a computer-based decision model. We applied a multi-stage evaluation process to assess the system's diagnostic performance. Depending on how system behavior was compared to presumably correct judgment of a case the correctness rate for closed cases with all data available varied between 58% and 71%, the overall rate after critical review was 84%. However, the real time behavior of our approach which data becoming available as time passes still has to be evaluated and observational studies need to be conducted. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. A web-based system for Classification of Remote Sensing Data

The availability of satellite imagery has expanded over the past few years, and the possibility to perform fast processing of massive databases comprising this kind of imagery data has opened ground-breaking perspectives in many different fields. This paper describes a web-based system (available online: http://***), which allows an inexperienced user to perform unsupervised classification of satellite/airborne images. The processing chain adopted in this work has been implemented in C language and integrated in our proposed tool, developed with HTML5, JavaScript, Php, AJAX and other web programming languages. Image acquisition with the applications programmer interface (API) is fast and efficient. An important added functionality of the developed tool is its capacity to exploit a remote server to speed up the processing of large satellite/airborne images at different zoom levels. The ability to process images at different zoom levels allows the tool an improved interaction with the user, who is able to supervise the final result. The previous functionalities are necessary to use efficient techniques for the classification of images and the incorporation of content-based image retrieval (CBIR). Several experimental validation types of the classification results with the proposed system are performed by comparing the classification accuracy of the proposed chain by means of techniques available in the well-known Environment for Visualizing Images (ENVI) software package.

A game-based evacuation drill (GBED) using the program Real-World Edutainment is effective disaster education. For the successful GBED, an evacuation scenario and digital materials are important. We are developing a web-based system to design GBEDs through community survey, digital material creation and evacuation scenario composition. This system works with a standard web browser and allows a wide range of people to participate in the GBED design process through simple operations. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B. V.
