This paper presents a web-based system of membership registration for the Japan Volleyball Association (JVA). There are about 0.3 million JVA members, comprised of children, student, housewife, and professional players, along with staff and others. Furthermore, the members of teams belonging to JVA number about 30,000, and there are about 500 groups divided by district or age group. This web-based system achieved unified management of member information and competition administration support for such a large, complicated organization.

Recently tax authorities in the world have been adopting advanced information technology over the Internet into their processes. websites that enable filing tax returns and paying tax electronically have been implemented in many countries. However, the tax authorities have difficulties in forcing the mandatory system because taxpayers do not feel comfortable with readily capturing their incomes by the system. This study aims to provide a guideline for successful implementation of the mandatory e-tax invoice system. First, the study foucsed on investigating whether the Korean e-tax invoice system was implemented successfully. Secondly, the study assessed actions that might contribute to its successful implementation. The analyses identify that establishing a free website for small-sized taxpayers and providing various issuing systems for diverse taxpayers are critical for its success. The results also enable the tax administrations aspiring to introduce a mandatory system to emphasize some specific actions, which have significant effects on its desired purposes. Finally, this study presents the various policy implications that previous studies have not provided.

This paper describes the development of and initial experiences with webUPMS (a web-based undergraduate Project management system), a thesis project management system developed in the Department of Computer Science (DCS) at Xi’an Institute of Post and Telecommunications (XIPT). The system was developed to facilitate existing DCS traditional manual undergraduate project administering mode, and make all the operations, such as projects submitting by staff, assessing by the assigned assessors and choosing by students, process controlling, and final papers and marks submitting, to be finished on the web with much higher efficiency. Experiments showed that this system is reliable, efficient and convenient.

web-based academic advising system is gaining popularity in recent times among universities. Academicians are considering introducing this for various benefits even though only few universities have web-based advising system at present. The aim of this paper is to discover the main key area requirements for web-based academic advising system. The research uses a combination of approaches. A literature survey is conducted to investigate the current issues and common element of developing the web-based academic advising system. Finally a random survey is conducted among students and lecturers to gain their perspectives on academic advising. The research resulted in the proposed conceptual framework of web-based academic advising information system.

A novel online diagnosis system framework for distributed control system with expert decision support is presented. The online monitoring and maintenance system is a vital tool for the operator and plant engineer to know the status of the distributed control system (DCS). DCS linked by data network as a single system is used in complex process applications where large amounts of input/output and data are required, such as oil refineries or chemical plants. This novel web-based expert service support maintenance has the system of integrated hardware and software which reduces the distributed control system's service maintenance. Real-time on-line diagnosis helps the plant engineer to maximize the plant operation. The key design challenges of internet security and user interface are the focus of this article.

With the advent of cost effective storage systems and high speed network connectivity, the amount of data gathered by various transactional systems has increased manifold and processing the same has become a real challenge. A number of data mining systems have been developed for processing such huge data in a meaningful way. Most of these systems are stand-alone in nature except a few of them that facilitate a subset of their overall functionality for web-based usage. This is mainly due to the challenges involved in designing the architectural framework required for developing a web-enabled data mining system. Such a system is aimed at analysing the transactional data pertaining to various input domains employing some advanced graph mining techniques like subgraph matching, frequent subgraph discovery and graph visualization. In this paper, we present an innovative approach employing various Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) based technologies for developing a data mining system that operates in the web environment. This paper basically presents the architectural principles required to design a suitable framework for enabling the development of such a system and the implementation challenges faced in realising the same. The paper also discusses functional details of the system involving various graph mining techniques. A few general guidelines based on our understanding during the system implementation are also included in this paper for completeness.

From intentions to code: exploring the life of user goals in two web-based systems

Goal models have been found to be an effective way to represent, communicate and analyse stakeholder requirements. Once such models reach some degree of completeness, a software-intensive system is developed to support the achievement of the identified goals. A question that naturally arises in this process, though, is whether and how the way by which requirements are represented in goal models influences the structure of the design of the system to be built. Does the content and organisation of the resulting source code disclose anything about the stakeholder intentions that have led to its production, and how? In this study the authors focus on web-based systems and describe the experiences in developing two small, layered web applications using goal models as a requirements representation tool and without introducing any goal-model specific methodological, design or platform restrictions. The authors study the artefacts of this process in an effort to identify intentional categories to which different parts of the source code belongs. The results indeed suggest interesting characterisations of goals, source code and relationships thereof that could be useful in developing goal-oriented web engineering frameworks and methodologies.

Combined ultrasound and biochemistry for risk evaluation in the first trimester

Objective. To evaluate the performance of a new first trimester web-based software for the detection of chromosomal anomalies using a combination of ultrasound and biochemistry. Design. Registry-based cohort study. Setting. Ultrasound units in the Stockholm region. Population. 20 710 women with singleton pregnancies were examined at 11+0 to 13+6 weeks gestational age during a three-year period 20062009. Methods. The risks for trisomy 21, 13 and 18 were calculated using a combination of maternal age, serum markers and nuchal translucency. Individual risk estimates were calculated and then reported to a web-based system using a new algorithm based on likelihood ratios of each marker derived from Gaussian distributions in normal and affected pregnancies. Main outcome measures. The impact on rates of invasive testing and the incidence of children born with Down's syndrome after implementing the method. Results. Approximately a third of all pregnant women in the region were examined with the combined test. The detection and test positive rates for Down's syndrome was 90 and 6.8%, respectively. Invasive testing among pregnant women decreased from 15 to 8% after introducing the method but the incidence of children born with Down's syndrome did not decrease during the study period. Conclusion. The new web-based software is an effective method for the detection of trisomy 21 with similar performance compared to other programs. However, it needs to be offered to all pregnant women to have an impact on the incidence of Down's syndrome.
