A web-based editor for Signal Interpretation Models (SIM) is presented in this paper. SIM is a modeling formalism specifically created to specify the occurrence of events based on signals variation. This formalism goal is not only to specify but also to support the validation and implementation of signals interpreters. These signals can be system input signals (environment signals) or system internal signals. The created web-based editor uses Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) principles and runs at standard browsers. It supports the creation/edition of graphical SIM models, which are saved in XML files. The XML format and the well defined execution semantics of the SIM formalism, enable the integration of SIM with other tools. This means that the created models can be used as inputs in tools, such as automatic code generators, to create simulation or execution code (namely JavaScript, C, and VHDL). To illustrate the application of the developed editor, the model of a system that detects temperature sensor faults is presented.

Ontologies as a means for semantic description of web services have been discussed for many years. Various formal languages and correspoding tools using ontologies for describing web services have also been proposed (i.e. OWLS). However, these existing approaches mainly are targeting domain experts creating ontologies. They are often too complex to be used by an average service provider offering web services online. But for offering and retrieving web services from future electronic marketplaces or service registries, a semantic service description is necessary. Therefore, in this paper an approach for an easy-to-use web-based editor for describing web services using ontologies based on the OWL-S language is proposed and evaluated. It not only supports a semantic, but also a commercial description of the web service offered, while remaining compatible with previous approaches addressing such holistic web service descriptions.

In this paper, we propose a method for assisting amateur writers in novel writing. Amateur writers can publish their work intensively through web infrastructures. This situation is beneficial, because it encourages amateur writers to enhance their skills by sharing their work. However, writing a good novel is difficult for a novice, because the novel-writing task requires the management of many character settings and maintenance of consistency throughout the novel. The length of a novel increases the difficulty of the task and decreases motivation owing to cumbersome management tasks. To reduce the burden, we introduce automatic keyword suggestion and highlighting techniques. Automatic keyword suggestion finds names of characters from the draft text and proposes their addition to the character list. The character names in the list are automatically linked to the corresponding words in the draft text. Using such functions, amateur writers can easily check the consistency of their novels while writing, similar to the use of an integrated development environment for software development. We have implemented a web application that provides the functions, and we consider the effectiveness of the proposed method here. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Many businesses and developers use XML to deliver formatted contents from a wide variety of applications to the desktop and over the web. The need for extensive knowledge and technical skills to creating such XML based applications and websites, raised a need for XML supporting software tools, which facilitate faster development of these applications. Many standalone commercially available tools are used for designing, building and deploying such applications. Consider a company mostly relying on XML for its information display through its website, going through all the process of XML DTD and Schema development, validation and publication. The developers developing these documents, on standalone XML-editors, need to take extra precaution in validating such document using parsers with their DTD or Schema and then loading them to website for display. What if all the steps involved in XML, DTD and schema document design, validation and display could be automated? The web-based XML editor presented in this paper is an attempt to automate and expedite these steps and providing development ease even to XML-unaware users.
