This paper presents a web-based image processing using Java Script and webCL. We modified the Pixastic library using the webCL for GPU acceleration and evaluated its performance. As a result, we could achieve 2.4 times and 3.3 times on average for webkit and Fire Fox, respectively. Also, we developed a platform and device selection algorithm for the best performance of the web-based execution on heterogeneous multicore environment.

This paper presents a framework for developing a web-based distributed imageprocessing application system that is flexible, convenient, and scalable. The system uses the existing web-based technology and imageprocessing methodologies to implement this capability in a distributed computing environment that may include powerful machines to process complex and large images. The system consists of browser, server, service registry and task scheduler, image data storage and management, and knowledge-basedimageprocessing services. A server-side application considers the user's request from a client side. The server host identifies the request and the necessary resources and schedules the computing resources and imageprocessing services. based on the instructions of the developer's side (the service provider) a proper knowledge-based on-line assistance is given to the client to select the right algorithm, set up proper parameter values in order to maximize the usage. Developers can modify and upgrade the services at their own site and publish the workable version, its interface, and required resources to the server. The server enables remote invocation of the algorithm by providing a seamless and efficient linkage mechanism. An application for segmentation operation using deformable contour methods for complex images is provided as an example.

In this paper, we discussed the techniques of accessing and analyzing remotely sensed data stored in internet/intranet servers from client browsers. First, the existing approaches for web-basedimage sharing are compared. Then, to overcome the limitations of present methods, we introduce a new architecture which integrates ION (IDL on Net) and ARCIMS in developing data servers-processing the image data stored in database and/or in files. Some operations, such as online enhancement, classification and filtering, which cannot he implemented before, can now he easily achieved, although this is somewhat time-consuming in some cases. Finally, we set up our national Landsat-7 ETM Plus imagery database by intearating ION with ARCIMS, and desirable results were obtained.
