A weighted centroid localization algorithm for randomly deployed wireless sensor networks

Localization is one of the important requirements in wireless sensor networks for tracking and analyzing the sensed data/events. In most of the applications of wireless sensor networks, the event information without its location information has no significance. The well known traditional Distance-Vector Hop (DV Hop) algorithm and weighted centroid DV Hop based algorithms can be easily implemented in real wireless sensor networks with low cost and no additional hardware requirement, but it has poor localization accuracy and high power consumption. In order to avoid these limitations, a weighted centroid DV-Hop algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm uses weights that consider the influence of different factors such as number of anchors, communication radius, and nearest anchor to determine location of unknown node. Simulation results and theoretical analysis prove that proposed algorithm outperforms the traditional DV-Hop algorithm in terms of localization error and power consumption. (C) 2017 The Authors. Localization algorithm Research Based on the Least Square Method and Modifying the RSSI weighted centroid algorithm

In the paper, through analyzing the inaccuracy for distance measuring and positioning during the target node positioning led to by the error of received signal strength indicator and studying the RSSI and centroid algorithm in-depth，a union positioning algorithm is proposed based on the least-square method for RSSI and modified weighted centroid algorithm: first to estimate the node position roughly by the least square method，then to calculate the node position coordinates precisely by the modified weighted centroid algorithm. In the algorithm, the sum of the reciprocal of the distance is used as the weight instead of the reciprocal of total distance to make the result more accurate. The simulation result demonstrates that the positioning accuracy can be increased greatly by this algorithm.

With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) indoor location-aware applications have become a useful tool for locating objects in enclosed spaces. One of the most significant modern advances in IoT is Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which is especially suitable for extremely low-power sensors powered by CMOS coinage battery cells. With its reasonable accuracy and low-effort setup, BLE is a suitable application for indoor tracking systems. Intermittently, the BLE nodes send out messaging packets that contain the UUID (Universally Unique Identifier). In this research, an efficient tracking system has been designed for indoor localization in hospitals. To locate patients., positions, and doctors, a BLE-enabled device has been utilized to automatically scan the area. Depending on their movement the positional updates are transmitted to the server through Wi-Fi. An efficient, lightweight server-side application has also been developed to efficiently track and manage the data. To determine the coverage across the BLE node, the quantitative coefficient of transmission strength has been utilized. After a thorough investigation at various points, it has been observed that the suggested approach shows 25.9% better accuracy than the other competing scheme which shows the effectiveness of the system. © 2024 IEEE.

For indoor positioning, the navigation satellite signal is difficult to cover, and the wireless base station signal multipath and attenuation characteristics are complicated, resulting in low positioning accuracy and large jitter. Wi-Fi signal is an important positioning source and has long been concerned by researchers. With the development of Wi-Fi technology, the IEEE 802.11n series communication protocol and the subsequent wireless LAN protocols use multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and other technologies. Channel characteristics between Wi-Fi transceivers can be estimated at the physical layer and stored in the form of channel state information (CSI). WI-FI using CSI technology have emerged as a new paradigm of indoor positioning service (IPS).In this paper, we proposes a CSI based indoor ranging method using an extended Kalman filter(EKF) that recursively processes input data including noise. To make EKF applicable, we develop a measurement model based on CSI estimation, which enables accurate indoor ranging and measurement noise statistics estimation. This paper also provides experimental comparisons of our proposed EKF method with existing indoor ranging methods. Experimental results show that the proposed EKF based CSI estimation approach achieves significant ranging accuracy improvement over using raw CSI ranging method, while it incurs much less computational complexity.

A large number of beacon nodes will be applied to the weighted centroid localization algorithm,but too much hardware facilities will affect the efficiency of the *** the cosine theorem,On the basis of the original beacon nodes,add some virtual static beacon nodes to participate in orientation,It can reduce the hardware cost required for *** addition,the math on and analysis of the localization algorithm,by derivative principle explaining the weight coefficient and RSSI ranging influence on localization *** experiments show that the weighted centroid algorithm based on VSBN needed fewer beacon nodes,high positioning accuracy.

The ultra-wideband(UWB) signal is affected by systematic measurement error and Not-Line-of-Sight(NLOS) error when it propagates in complex indoor environment, which leads to poor positioning accuracy and stability. In order to reduce the influence of error on the accuracy of positioning results, a Hyperbolic-weighted centroid algorithm based on Kalman Filter is proposed in this paper. The method is based on the time difference of arrival(TDOA) location model. The measured value of the TDOA distance difference is first filtered by Kalman Filter, and then the obtained results are used as the input of the Hyperbolic location algorithm to acquire the initial solution. For further offsetting the effect of error on positioning accuracy, a weighted centroid technique is applied. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method in both simulation and experimental results. The experimental results show that the position accuracy is effectively improved by the algorithm. When the measurement error satisfies the Gaussian distribution and the standard deviation is 0.1 m, the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) of the location results is about 11 cm.

Toward the problem of low node localization accuracy in wireless sensor networks, this paper analyzes the centroid localization and proposes a weighted centroid localization algorithm based on improved RSSI ranging. This algorithm takes both the distance and RSSI between beacon nodes into consideration, corrects both the distance between beacon nodes and the signal strength information and selects the reciprocal of the distance as the weight of the algorithm. The simulation result shows, compared with the traditional centroid localization algorithm this algorithm has higher localization accuracy.

With the increasing demand of location-based services, indoor ranging method based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RS SI) or Channel State Information (CSI) has become an increasingly important technique due to its low hardware requirement and high accuracy. Due to robustness against the multipath effect, frequency domain Channel State Information (CSI) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems is supposed to provide an excellent ranging measurement for indoor localization. In this paper, we propose a novel signal attenuation model for indoor ranging based on the Kalman filter. The proposed attenuation model scheme is implemented and validated with experiments in a typical indoor environment. Experimental results are presented to confirm that the proposed model can effectively reduce ranging error, compared with existing methods in a typical indoor environment.

WSN Nodes Placement Optimization Based on a weighted centroid Artificial Fish Swarm algorithm

Aiming at optimal placement of wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes of wind turbine blade for health inspection, a weighted centroid artificial fish swarm algorithm (WC-AFSA) is proposed. A weighted centroid algorithm is applied to construct an initial fish population so to enhance the fish diversity and improve the search precision. Adaptive step based on dynamic parameter is used to jump out local optimal solution and improve the convergence speed. Optimal sensor placement is realized by minimizing the maximum off-diagonal elements of the modal assurance criterion as the objective function. Five typical test functions are applied to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, and optimal placement of WSNs nodes on wind turbine blade is carried out. The results show that WC-AFSA has better optimization effect than AFSA, which can solve the problem of optimal arrangement of blade WSNs nodes.

In this paper, we present a directional antenna-based leader-follower robotic relay system capable of building end-to-end communication in complicated and dynamically changing environments. The proposed system consists of multiple networked robots one is a mobile end node and the others are leaders or followers acting as radio relays. Every follower uses directional antennas to relay a communication radio and to estimate the location of the leader robot as a sensory device. For bearing estimation, we employ a weight centroid algorithm (WCA) and present a theoretical analysis of the use of WCA for this work. Using a robotic convoy method, we develop online, distributed control strategies that satisfy the scalability requirements of robotic network systems and enable cooperating robots to work independently. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by conducting extensive real-world experiments that successfully build actual communication between two end nodes. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V.
