Modeling and Stability Analysis of an active islanding detection method in DC Microgrids Using Real-Time Wavelet Analysis

This paper presents a new real-time method for fast and reliable detection of islanding events in DC microgrids (MGs). The method involves injecting a distinct periodic perturbation signal from the controller of the main bidirectional dual active bridge (DAB) DC-DC converter at predetermined intervals. This discrete signal significantly reduces its impact on power quality. Intentionally injecting a narrow-band perturbation signal enhances the method's ability to differentiate islanding events from random fluctuations and disturbances, demonstrating its robustness. Decentralized detectors at each MG sub-DC link monitor system parameters. Real-time wavelet analysis concurrently decides to disconnect the main DC grid and common DC bus during islanding events, eliminating the need for complex DC circuit breakers (CBs). The proposed method is easily implementable without requiring a separate communication infrastructure and is applicable in scenarios with or without power exchange between the main DC grid and MGs. Detailed mathematical stability analysis confirms the method's stability, aligning with the IEEE 1547 Standard, and is supported by extensive simulation results.

With the development of distributed generation, more and more researchers have attached importance to these works about multiple inverters' islanding detection. This paper propose a new islanding detection method, parametric adaptive active islanding detection method. Simulation and experiment results validate the improvement of the new islanding detection method can weaken the dilution effect in multi grid connected inverters.

This study proposes an active islanding detection method for use of grid-connected inverter of renewable energy generation system (REGS). With a digital signal processor (DSP) integrated, the proposed method is capable of detecting the islanding fault of grid-connected inverters of REGS during the variable load conditions. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the method was tested on a practical inverter of BEGS, the field practical operations of the proposed method were studied in accordance with the conditions for the different loads and fault types. Test results are presented which show that the new proposed method is reliable, economical and easy for implementation.

An active islanding detection method using d-axis disturbance signal injection with intelligent control is proposed in this study. The proposed active islanding detection method is based on injecting a new disturbance signal into the system through the d-axis current that leads to a frequency deviation at the terminal of the resistance inductance and capacitance (RLC) load when the grid is disconnected. The feasibility of the proposed method is evaluated under the UL1741 anti-islanding test configuration. The proposed d-axis disturbance signal-injection method is intended to achieve a reliable detection with quasi-zero non-detection zone, minimum effects on power quality and easy implementation without additional sensing devices or equipments. Moreover, in order to achieve accurate tracking control of active and reactive power and rapid response of the islanding detection of the distributed generator (DG) system, a wavelet fuzzy neural network (WFNN) intelligent controller is proposed to replace the conventional proportional-integral controller for the control of the DG system. Furthermore, the network structure and the online learning algorithm of the WFNN are introduced in detail. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed d-axis disturbance signal-injection method are verified with experimental results.

Due to the increased penetration of multi-inverter distributed generation(DG)systems,different DG technologies,inverter control methods,and other inverter functions are challenging the capabilities of islanding *** addition,multi-inverter networks connecting the distribution system point of common coupling(PCC)create islanding at paralleling inverters,which adds the vulnerability of islanding ***,available islanding detection must overcome more challenges from non-detection zones(NDZs)under reduced power ***,in this study,a new method called parameter self-adapting active islanding detection was utilized to minimize the dilution effect and reduce NDZs in multi-inverter power *** method utilizes an active frequency drift(AFD)method and applies a positive feedback gain of adoption parameters,which significantly minimizes NDZs at parallel *** simulation and experimental outcomes indicate that the proposed method can effectively weaken the dilution effect in multi-inverter networks connecting the distribution system PCC.

This paper systematically analyzes the islanding performance under different case studies and scenarios of the most well-known active islanding detection methods (IDMs) for single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. They are named as follows: active Frequency Drift (AFD), Sandia Frequency Shift (SFS), Slip Mode frequency Shift (SMS), and Sandia Voltage Shift (SVS) anti-islanding detection strategies. The performance of these four active anti-islanding methods has been examined in detail using Matlab/Simulink. Moreover, the quality factor and non-detection zone (NDZ) influence on islanding detection is also analyzed. According to the new grid codes and standards, the studied active IDMs provide good detection times. Furthermore, the case studies illustrate that these active detection techniques can successfully detect the islanding operation mode under different quality factors, types of loads, solar irradiance changes, and fault-ride through (FRT) operation mode.

Novel islanding detection method for inverter-based distributed generators based on adaptive reactive power control

Here, a novel active islanding detection method for inverter-based distributed generators (IBDGs) is presented. In order to reduce the disturbance in grid-connected mode and realise rapid and effective detection during islanding, the linear reactive power disturbance is utilised in the proposed method and its slope can change adaptively. The voltage variation and correlation factor between reactive power disturbance and frequency variation are proposed as criteria for disturbance slope adjustment. In addition, considering IBDGs located at different positions can detect the same frequency variation characteristics, the value of the frequency is used as the criteria to control the disturbance values, which can guarantee the synchronisation of disturbances added on different IBDGs without the need of communication. According to the anti-islanding test system recommended in IEEE Std.929-2000, the effectiveness of the method has been validated with several case studies in the power systems computer-aided design (PSCAD)/EMTDC environment.

This paper concentrates on the control of the integrated battery storage Power Conditioning Systems (PCS) parallel system in Microgrid (MG). The theoretical analysis of the different operation modes are clearly studied, including grid-connected and islanded mode. To improve the power sharing accuracy during the islanded operation, an enhanced droop controller is introduced. The proposed approach is not only able to ensure accurate power sharing but also restore voltage drops due to droop effect and load effect. Moreover, a novel active islanding detection method based on active phase shift with positive feedback (APSPF) is presented in the parallel connected PCSs application. This method can be easily realized and adjust to different grid-connected control strategies. Simulation and experimental results are provided to validate the feasibility of the proposed control approach.

islanding detection is a mandatory function for grid-connected converters. The popular slip mode frequency shift (SMS) and auto phase shift active islanding detection methods are investigated and an improved (IM)-SMS strategy is proposed in this study. In the proposed method, additional phase shift is introduced to help in stimulating the action of the islanding detection and the algorithm is simplified as well. When the utility grid is disconnected, the algorithm keeps the frequency of the converter output voltage deviating until the frequency protection relay is triggered. The working principle of the method is introduced and the guidance of parameters selection and optimisation is also provided. The islanding detection performance is evaluated through theoretical analysis and verified by digital simulation and experimental results. The IM-SMS method exhibits features of simplicity, easy implementation and high reliability.
