For maintaining power system stability, several parameters like voltage, frequency, etc. are monitored sequentially at regular intervals by SCADA, and the informations are transmitted to data centre through suitable communication schemes. If the volume of data can be reduced, then it is possible to reduce the energy and space requirement. This paper emphasizes on the development of an algorithm to compress the monitoring parameters using adaptive huffman coding in MATLAB environment. The compression ratio obtained by this approach is better than what is obtained by other data compression techniques. This results in the reduction of memory requirement by about 60%, thereby enabling it suitable for the data handling of a large volume of monitoring data encountered frequently in a power system.

Currently, the data storage medium in digital form are widely applied in various fields, including in the medical world. The excessive size of the digital medical image digital poses problems in terms of storage and the time to transmit these images through the Internet. To overcome these problems, a digital image compression can be conducted. This procedure is conducted to maintain the image quality therefore it does not affect the outcome of a medical image diagnosis. In [1], it has carried out and examined the implementation of the wavelet-based image compression SVD, where the quantity process using graph coloring and for entropy encoding using Arithmetic coding. In this paper, the data used is a medical image. Furthermore, it has been designed an image compression system based on Integer Wavelet Transform ( IWT) and SVD. Graph-based quantization used still refers to [1], but entropy encoding used is adaptive huffman coding. In addition, IWT used in this system because it is reversible. Performance compression system designed to produce an average PSNR value in the range of 50-53 dB and the compression ratio ranges from 78-85%.

One ongoing problem with digital image file sizes is the cost of transferring data over a network. Larger image file sizes result in larger webpage file sizes. Larger webpage file sizes take more time to load and users incur higher data transfer costs when opening these larger webpages. It is cheaper and faster to utilize smaller compressed files than to use larger uncompressed files. Compression usually reduces the size of files for improved storage and online transmission of the files. Some types of files will compress better than other types, for example certain text files and BMP image files may even be compressed by up to 90%. This paper is part of a research work carried out to analyze and compare the efficiency of adaptive huffman coding with Arithmetic coding compression algorithms using various image files to assess the efficiency of the two different compression methods and to assess possible combinations of the compared compression algorithms which effectively reduce the image file size with minimal time complexity overhead. The research design focused on experiments such that a set of image files were sampled and systematically compressed. After progressively and systematically compressing a subset of sample files with the two selected general compression methods;it was observed that a fast Arithmetic coding (AC) variant consistently yielded fast compression times and high space-savings (file size reduction) results for image files and audio files. Additionally, reducing a BMP image's range of bytes (number of different bytes within the data of the file), using vector quantization, would also increase the space-savings result of compressing that BMP file with the fast AC variant.

It is a well observed characteristic that when a DCT block is traversed in the zigzag order, the AC coefficients generally decrease in size and the run-length of zero coefficients increase in number. This note presents a minor modification to the huffman coding of the JPEG baseline compression algorithm to exploit this redundancy. For this purpose, DCT blocks are divided into bands so that each band can be coded using a separate code table. Three implementations are presented, which all move the end-of-block marker up in the middle of DCT block and use it to indicate the band boundaries. Experimental results are presented to compare reduction in the code size obtained by our methods with the JPEG sequential-mode huffman coding and arithmetic coding methods. The average code reduction to the total image code size of one of our methods is 4%. Our methods can also be used for progressive image transmission and hence, experimental results are also given to compare them with two-, three-, and four-band implementations of the JPEG spectral selection method.

There are so many records compression methods have been introduced to shrink the phrasing/data cargo space and communication costs. The intelligent compression method in this article is based on switching code information compression technique with the utility of adaptive huffman coding. The programming development of the structure encodes usually occurring characters with shorter bit code and infrequently occurring appearing characters with longer bit codes, same code can be use for three symbols for numbers, alphabet, and special character. The decoding process regenerate the encoded data by expanding the encoded data back to the original data and works very much like the encoder process. Proposed method is more effective than adaptive Huff man coding because it reduce the codeword length of the characters and can be use same codeword for three different groups character. Their size of the symbol-code word table is also reduces which transmitted with the compressed data. This process enhancing compression efficiency up to 12% more than adaptive huffman coding which provide compression ratio up to 52.51% (+12%). The propose system is very impressive for compressing text file, which hold numbers and special symbols approximately equi-probable to alphabets like Math's Books/database files in a real time environment..

With the development of data security and privacy requirements in the field of cloud computing, Reversible Data Hiding in Encrypted Images (RDHEI) in encryption domain has received increasing attention. In order to take full advantage of the spatial and textural features of the original image, reversible data hiding in encrypted image with adaptive huffman code based on Dynamic Prediction Axes (RDHEI-HDA) is proposed. First, the prediction errors of the original plaintext image are calculated according to the multidirectional median edge detector (M-MED) combined with the Dynamic Prediction Axes which are generated by the spatial correlation of the original image. After encryption process with the stream cipher, the adaptive huffman coding labeling rule is created for pixel labeling and classification according to the Dynamic Prediction Axes and the distribution of prediction errors. Finally, bit substitution is employed to insert secret data and side information into the image. In Comparison to most of the state-of-the-art RDHEI methods, the experimental results show that the RDHEI-HDA method provides a higher pure payload while ensuring safety.

Image compression plays a crucial role in medical imaging, allowing efficient manipulation, storage, and transmission. Nevertheless, in medical applications the need to conserve the diagnostic validity of the image requires the use of lossless compression methods, producing low compression factors. In this paper, a novel near-lossless compression scheme is proposed here and yields significantly better compression rates. In this proposed method, base points, direction images and D-value images are obtained from RGB color wee image by transformation. Base points, direction images are encoded by binary coding, distributed arithmetic coding. Wavelet coefficients of D-value images are encoded by adaptive huffman coding. As a result, high over all compression rates, better diagnostic image quality and improved performance parameters are obtained. The algorithm is tested on experimental medical images from different modalities and different body districts and results are reported.

Optimized Tunable-Q Wavelet Transform-Based 2-D ECG Compression Technique Using DCT

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are one of the fundamental health indicators used in the continuous monitoring and diagnosis of severe heart diseases. The acquisition of long-term ECG signals generates large data that negatively affect the proficiency of the transmission channel and storage devices. In this regard, this work presents a novel compression algorithm by combining discrete cosine transform (DCT) and optimized tunable-Q wavelet transform (TQWT) for compression of 2-D ECG signals. The proposed algorithm is applied to columns and rows of 2-D ECG array, which improves the compression by increasing sparsity in the transform domain. Thereafter, transform coefficients are approximated using an optimized midtread quantizer. TQWT and quantizer's parameters both are optimized using a recently developed COOT bird optimization algorithm, which simulates the behavior of COOT birds. The obtained quantized coefficients are encoded by adaptive huffman encoding. The investigational work is tested on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital (MIT-BIH) arrhythmia database. The optimization performance of COOT algorithm is also validated by comparing it with some existing algorithms. Similarly, compression performance is also compared with the state-of-the-art compression techniques in terms of compression ratio (CR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), percent root-mean-square difference (PRD), and quality score (QS). The obtained average values of these parameters are 30.7826, 27.7073 dB, 4.5162%, and 8.1349. The attained results strengthen the applicability of the proposed method in telemedicine or mobile health-based monitoring systems and memory devices.

Telemedicine means transmission of medical data between users for diagnosis is one of the emerging fields in medicine. During transmission of medical data such as images, videos etc over internet huge bandwidth are needed. Resolution factor and number of images per diagnosis makes even the size of the medical image and video that belongs to a single patient to be very large in size. So there is an immense need for efficient compression techniques for use in compressing these medical data to decrease the storage space and efficiency of transfer the images over network for access to electronic patient records. And also during transmission security of the data is very important. This project summarizes the different transformation methods used in compression as compression is one of the techniques that reduces the amount of data needed for storage or transmission of information, and the security technique used for secure transmission of data. Here we outlines the comparison of transformation methods such as DPCM (Differential Pulse Code Modulation), and prediction improvement in DPCM transformation step of compression which is efficient in both entropy reduction and computational complexity. The improved DPCM transformation increases the energy compaction of prediction model and as a result reduces entropy value of transformed image. After transforming the image huffman encoding used to compress the image. Security is then added to the compressed image formed by signature analysis. Finally each process involved in detecting hard exudates take up a icon in a single window called Graphical User Interface (GUI) window which will be an exclusive window for detecting hard exudates. The processed resultant image can be examined comfortably at its earlier stages and thus reducing the examining time. The result is analyzed using MATLAB and implemented in hardware.
