In this paper, multiwavelets are considered in the context of image compression based on the human vision system (HVS). First, selecting the BSA (4/4)* filters, a two-dimensional image is transformed with our proposed algorithm 1. Second, we apply HVS coefficients into the subbands of the transformed image. Third, we split the coefficients into two parts: the significance map and residue map. Then a new modified set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) algorithm is proposed to encode the significance map. Fourth, algorithm III is presented for coding the residue map. Finally, we adopt context-based adaptive arithmetic coding to encode the bit stream. We also provide some experimental results proving that multiwavelets are worth studying and compare them with those of other multiwavelet and JPEG2000 algorithms.

In this paper, we propose a new fast and efficient method of shape coding called feature point-based adaptivearithmetic encoding algorithm (FPAE). For dealing with video image, we regard a shape as a set of points that are parameterized by arc length and B-spline bases. Then, the evolution of curve at different resolution levels s in B-spline scale space is achieved by convoluting the curve with the dilated B-spline kernel instead of Gaussian kernel. Compared with Gaussian method, this method has an advantage of fast algorithm. By calculating the curvature, the feature-points including significant information of shape contour can be found. But for shape coding, this shape representation will not very efficient when the shape consist of arcs. The modified shape representation also includes the feature-point that lies in arc and the distance from the feature-point to chord is largest. All of the feature-points are encoded by adaptivearithmetic encoding. Experimental results show that our method reduces coded bits by about 25% compared with the context-based arithmetic encoding (CAE) of the MPEG-4 VM and the subjective quality of the reconstructed shape is better than that of CAE at same Dn.

This paper describes an online lossless data-compression method using adaptive arithmetic coding. To achieve good compression efficiency, we employ an adaptive fuzzy-tuning modeler that applies fuzzy inference to deal efficiently with the problem of conditional probability estimation, In comparison with other lossless coding schemes, the compression results of the proposed method are good and satisfactory for various types of source data. Since we adopt the table-lookup approach for the fuzzy-tuning modeler, the design is simple, fast, and suitable for VLSI implementation.

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo navrhnout, vytvořit a otestovat metodu pro bezeztrátovou kompresi obrazu. Teoretická část zahrnuje popis vybraných exitujících metod jako jsou RLE, MTF, adaptivní aritmetické kódování, barevné modely použité v metodách LOCO-I a JPEG 2000, prediktory MED, GAP a laplaceova pyramida. Cílem této práce je popsat kontextové kompresní metody a jejich aplikaci na multimediální data. Je zde popsán princip aritmetického kódování a metody prediction by partial matching včetně tvorby pravděpodobnostního modelu. Také jsou popsány multimediální data a základní principy jejich komprese. V další části jsou prezentovány kompresní metody, které jsem implementoval v práci a jejich výsledky.
