Blind Spoofing Detection for Anti-Jamming Multiantenna GNSS Receivers

Multiantenna global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers with adaptive array processing are widely used in harsh jamming environments. However, spoofing is still a security threat to multiantenna systems because it can go unnoticed by existing array anti-jamming techniques. Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is one possible technique to identify a spoofing attack. However, such methods are expensive to implement due to the need for array calibration. In this article, a simple spoofing detection method with anti-jamming capability is proposed. This method can be operated without any supporting information or sensors, thanks to its blind characteristics. Specifically, multichannel anti-jamming processing is first used to suppress jamming, and then an extended double difference carrier phase (DDCP) model is established. Based on the above, a test statistic for spoofing detection is derived using the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) approach. The detection performance is analyzed theoretically and the detection threshold is derived. Furthermore, methods to reduce false alarms are also discussed. Finally, several real-world experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Anti-Jamming GNSS Antenna array Receiver with Reduced Phase Distortions Using a Robust Phase Compensation Technique

Antenna arrays with adaptive filtering can protect the integrity and functionality of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers against interference. However, a major problem with existing adaptive array processing algorithms is that they cause phase distortions and introduce bias errors into the carrier phase measurement, limiting high-precision applications. In this paper, a robust phase compensation technique is proposed to reduce the phase distortion. First, a phase bias detection method is developed to trigger the phase compensation technique. Then, the phase bias is estimated using a robust estimation method and compensated for in the GNSS receiver. The proposed technique operates in real time and causes no processing delay, while requiring only a minor modification to existing GNSS receivers. This technique is applied to the power inversion adaptive antenna, and can also be extended to a wide variety of adaptive antennas. The simulation experiments verify the applicability of the proposed technique and also confirm its superiority over existing techniques.

This paper describes the Matlab based simulation of radio frequency interference monitoring and mitigation techniques using adaptive array antenna and null steering algorithm. The proposed research is described to show the design and implementation of the GPS transmitter and receiver system for real time navigation, location based services and last but not least tracking applications. Two interferences arriving at 35 degrees and 55 degrees with power greater than seven times of original GPS signals arriving at 45 degrees. Least mean square (LMS) and recursive least square (RLS) algorithms. The proposed system has been evaluated by conducting experiments by using the simulation tool for AntiJammer. The proposed model is useful for developing the smart health care application. Results showed better performance of RLS over LMS to mitigate the effect of interference as well as noise with a higher signal to noise ratio. This system will be useful for enhancing the communication effectiveness of smarthealth care systems.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar imaging has attracted attention for use in security and intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications. Conventional UWB Doppler interferometry is an effective way to obtain high-resolution images while using a simple radar system. However, this method produces ghost images when multiple closely-spaced human targets are present. To resolve this problem, we propose a new technique that combines UWB Doppler interferometry with an adaptive beamforming method called estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT). We also propose a tracking and separation algorithm that uses the k-nearest neighbor method. Through a combination of numerical simulations and measurements, we demonstrate the remarkable performance improvement that can be achieved using our proposed method. The proposed method can separate multiple humans with a root-mean-square error of 5.2 cm, which makes its accuracy 1.9 times higher than that of the conventional method.

High-Resolution Direct Position Determination Using MVDR

The direct position determination (DPD) approach is a single-step method, which uses the maximum likelihood estimator to localize sources emitting electromagnetic energy using combined data from all available sensors. The DPD is known to outperform the traditional two-step methods under low signal-to-noise ratio conditions. We propose an improvement to the DPD approach, using the well-known minimum-variance-distortionless-response (MVDR) approach. Unlike maximum likelihood, the number of sources needs not be known before applying the method. The combination of both the direct approach and MVDR yields unprecedented localization accuracy and resolution for weak sources. We demonstrate this approach on the problem of multistatic radar, but the method can easily be extended to general localization problems.

The constrained Kalman filter-based adaptive algorithm has fast convergence and robustness towards direction-of-arrival (DOA) mismatch. This motivates its usage for interference suppression in phased arrays. The constraints related to high gain towards the desired source and minimum mean square error are imposed in the weight adaptation. The objective is to steer the mainbeam towards the desired direction and simultaneously nullify the interfering sources impinging the array from different directions. It is shown that the output SINR of the algorithm is higher than the well-known gradient-based improved LMS algorithm.

Reconfigurable adaptive Singular Value Decomposition Engine Design for High-Throughput MIMO-OFDM Systems

Singular value decomposition (SVD) is an optimal method to obtain spatial multiplexing gain in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channels. However, the high cost of implementation and high decomposing latency of the SVD restricts its usage in current wireless communication applications. In this paper, we present a complete adaptive SVD algorithm and a reconfigurable architecture for high-throughput MIMO-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. There are several proposed architectural design techniques: reconfigurable scheme, division-free adaptive step size scheme, early termination scheme, and data interleaving scheme. The reconfigurable scheme can support all antenna configurations in a MIMO system. The division-free adaptive step size and early termination schemes are used to effectively reduce the decomposing latency and improve hardware utilization. The data interleaving scheme helps to deal with several channel matrices concurrently. Besides, we propose an orthogonal reconstruction scheme to obtain more accurate SVD outputs, and then the system performance will be greatly enhanced. We apply our SVD design to the IEEE 802.11n applications. This design is implemented and fabricated in UMC 90 nm 1P9M CMOS technology. The maximum operating frequency is measured to be at 101.2 MHz, and the corresponding power dissipation is at 125 mW. The core size is 2.17 mm(2) and the die size occupies 4.93 mm(2). The chip result shows that the average latency is only 0.33% of the wireless local area network coherence time. Hence, the proposed reconfigurable adaptive SVD engine design is very suitable for high-throughput wireless communication applications.
