Objectives: Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) is a treatment option for patients with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea. In the post-implant period, awake endoscopy with advanced programming (AEAP) can be employed to improve apnea hypopnea index (AHI) reduction and/or patient comfort. This study describes response patterns to HNS after AEAP as well as patient-specific patterns in our patient population. Methods: Retrospective evaluation of 17 consecutive patients who underwent AEAP between June 2019 and December 2022. Post-AEAP AHIs were used to create 2 response groups, which facilitated analysis of patient-based characteristics. AHI reporting, deemed non-titration AHI (NT-AHI), is the whole-night AHI resulting from non-titration studies. Chi-squared, Pearson correlation coefficient, and independent samples t-test were used to determine significance deemed as P < .05 Results: Fifteen of 17 patients (88.2%) presented for failed NT-AHI reduction, and 2/17 (11.8%) presented for comfort measures. Eleven patients (65%) showed an improvement in post-AEAP NT-AHI;6 (35%) patients failed to improve. Four patients with either lateral wall collapse or concentric wall collapse at the tongue base failed to improve NT-AHI compared to a single patient who showed an improved NT-AHI (P = .017). Of the 2 patients who presented with discomfort, patient 1/2 demonstrated improvement in device usage, and patient 2/2 reported improved comfort while maintaining average device usage. Conclusion: AEAP is a powerful tool that offers the ability to identify settings conducive to increased therapy efficacy and improved treatment tolerability. Airway phenotypes are closely correlated with treatment efficacy, and as such, careful anatomical consideration of the upper airway must be performed when titrating therapy. Lay Summary: Amongst the different treatment options for obstructive sleep apnea, hypoglossal nerve stimulation has been shown to be effective in positive-airway-pressure i

Hypoglossal nerve stimulation is a treatment option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea who are intolerant to positive airway pressure therapy. In the post-implant period, awake endoscopy with advanced programming (AEAP) can be employed to optimize apnea-hypopnea index reduction and/or patient comfort and usage. The report herein describes awake endoscopy with AEAP as a guide to providers involved in post-implant care. The first 5 consecutive patients were reviewed to provide general understanding of outcomes and safety when implementing such a protocolized approach.

AbstractDeep brain stimulation is an established treatment option for various neurological and psychiatric disorders. Throughout its journey as a confirmed long-term efficacious therapeutic option for movement disorders such as Parkinson’ s disease, essential tremor and dystonia over the last three decades, programming strategies continuously improved to due to the development of DBS technologies. The aim of this review is to take a glance into current programming strategies in the era of movement disorders particularly with an updated review of the literature for current and emerging DBS technologies.

In 2024, 32.9% of undergraduate students dropped out of college. The major with the most significant dropout rate was computer science (CS), with 10.7%. The free text-based curriculum project from Carnegie Mellon University's CS Academy addresses gaps that enable students to learn CS concepts up to the university level. Since 2018, this project has been globally available and has worked with professors, teachers, and content developers to create multiple courses: a short introductory course, the flagship CS1 year-long course, a college-level course, and more. Courses are offered through our online, web-based platform, which is free to use by teachers in K-12 classrooms. The goal is to bridge knowledge from block-based curriculum to text-based college-level courses. In addition, our college-level course allows students to earn credit (four credit hours/12 units) for their work through an end-of-course exam proctored by teachers in their schools. Currently in its first-year post-pilot, College programming and Computer Science (CPCS) has allowed students to earn Carnegie Mellon University credit that is recognized at universities across the United States and *** Mellon University's CS Academy has served over 450,000 students and 13,000 teachers worldwide. The curriculum is also being translated into Spanish and has pilots in various Latin American countries, including Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Puerto Rico, and Colombia.

Computer programming was introduced to primary schools by many countries with the aim of advancing logic and algorithmic thinking of students. The bulk of a typical syllabus (e.g., in the case of Greece) for computer programming courses at 5th and 6th grade primary school, consists of teaching structured programming concepts. While the comprehension of basic program flow concepts such as branch instructions and loops is of paramount importance, overextending the teaching of the basics may lead to students losing their interest due to lack of challenge. On the other hand, in a mixed classroom environment there exist both students with substantial skills in modern computer technology and others with smaller such experience, e.g., due to societal and economic factors. To avoid discouraging both the talented pupils by re-visiting the same topics and the less experienced ones by not providing an alternative way of learning, we investigate instructing advanced computer programming concepts in a playful way using pair programming. Results reveal that teaching advanced programming concepts using pair programming can improve the overall programming skills of mixed classroom students.

Numerical modeling is a tool commonly used by both researchers and engineers. For several reasons, the quality of scientific codes frequently deprecates. One of the possible remedies is the application of advanced programming and software development methods. In this paper, we introduce the application of metaprogramming and generic programming in C++ to control the correctness of multiscale models. Additionally, it is shown how both methods increase reusability and quality of the code. A short introduction to metaprogramming and generic programming is included, as well as the proof of the concept. Exemplary codes are also included and discussed.
