Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Leadership and Team Dynamics in agile software engineering Projects

agile software engineering emphasizes collaboration, adaptability, and team cohesion, where Leadership and interpersonal dynamics are critical for project success. Emotional Intelligence (EI), the ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions, has been theorized to enhance communication, conflict resolution, and team performance in agile environments. However, empirical evidence on its direct and mediated impacts remains underexplored. This study examines how EI influences leadership effectiveness and team dynamics in agile software projects, focusing on quantifying these relationships to inform actionable strategies. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing structured surveys from 51 agile professionals (Scrum Masters, developers, and product owners) actively engaged in frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP). Validated instruments-the Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS), Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), and Team Climate Inventory (TCI) measured EI competencies, leadership behaviors, and team dynamics. Data were analyzed using correlation, regression, and mediation analyses. Results revealed significant positive correlations between EI and leadership effectiveness (r=0.504, p<0.01) and EI and team dynamics (r=0.434, p<0.01). Mediation analysis demonstrated that leadership effectiveness fully mediates the relationship between EI and team outcomes ( beta =0.290, p<0.01), highlighting the pivotal role of emotionally intelligent leaders in fostering trust and adaptability. Teams led by individuals with high EI reported a 20% increase in trust and marked improvements in collaboration and decision-making. These findings underscore EI as a critical catalyst for agile success. Towards Agility in Breast Cancer Treatment Principles as Adopted from agile software engineering

Purpose: The complex nature of breast cancer demands flexible and adaptable principles that can account for the diverse characteristics and evolving conditions of each patient. However, there are no common breast cancer treatment agility principles that can influence policies and direct breast cancer professionals and healthcare providers into enhancing the delivery of health outcomes to patients under these conditions along with continuous rapid improvements in breast cancer treatment plan design. The incorporation of agile principles from software engineering offers a promising avenue for enhancing patient care. This research is conducted to identify breast cancer treatment agility principles adopted from the software engineering field and to validate their conformance to agility through work reported from literature in breast cancer treatment context. Material and Methods: The authors applied a structured research methodology that involved interviews for eliciting and validating twelve agility principles from oncologists. Discussion of each principle is reflected using work reported from literature as a form of validation. Finally, a domain expert reviewed the literature-driven validation for each of the twelve identified breast cancer treatment agile principle to finally validate their conformance to agility and provide results. Results: This work resulted twelve validated agility principles for breast cancer treatment and classified whether they are meeting, partially-(hybrid), or not meeting agility. Seven out of the twelve agile principles resulted as meeting agility, where the remaining five principles resulted as partially meeting agility. None of them is recorded as not meeting agility. Conclusion: The work contributes to forming an agile mindset that can empower breast cancer professionals to optimize treatment plans, enhance patient experiences, and continuously improve the quality of care. There is a rapid emergence of tools, methods, and guidance for the use of AI across all parts of the software development process, from requirements gathering to code generation to testing and user feedback. However, AI raises many concerns regarding responsible use, and there is a need to understand and develop principles for what responsible software development entails in practice in an agile context, as well as carefully evaluate the incorporation of AI tools and methods in software engineering. We draw on experience from Bespot, Knowit, Schibsted, and Spotify to identify challenges faced by companies pioneering the use of AI in their software development efforts and start charting a roadmap for responsible AI in software engineering.

The Computational Thinking (CT) mindset can support basic education by providing tools and strategies for students to solve problems in many subjects. In this context, system design is an important CT practice because it allows students to automate their solutions. This paper proposes a conceptual framework based on agile software engineering practices to teach students digital game development and consequently improve CT skills. The maker culture was also taken into account in the proposed approach. The framework was applied to middle school students. Data were collected and analyzed by Rubric guided interviews and project evaluation. The results pointed out that the approach can be able to actively engage students in different aspects of software development.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) poses a multitude of challenges to companies on the legal, business and technical level. Almost two years after the regulation entered into force, a series of significant fines were issued because of insecure data processing. We claim that incorporating adequate measures for data protection is a challenge for software developers and that a lightweight approach to support this goal can be beneficial. This short paper proposes an approach for integrating privacy aspects in agile development methods and outlines a prototype as tool support for this approach.

Background: Breast cancer treatment has been described as a dynamic and patient-centered approach that emphasizes adaptability and flexibility throughout the treatment process. Breast cancer is complex, with varying subtypes and stages, making it important to tailor treatment plans to each patient's unique circumstances. Breast cancer treatment delivery relies on a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals who collaborate to provide personalized care and quick adaptation to changing conditions to optimize outcomes while minimizing side effects and maintaining the patient's quality of life. However, agility in breast cancer treatment has not been defined according to common agile values and described in language comprehensible to breast cancer professionals. In the rapidly evolving landscape of breast cancer treatment, the incorporation of agile values from software engineering promises to enhance patient care. Objective: Our objective is to propose agile values for breast cancer treatment adopted and adapted from software engineering. We also aim to validate how these values conform to the concept of agility in the breast cancer context through referencing past work. Methods: We applied a structured research methodology to identify and validate 4 agile values for breast cancer treatment. In the elicitation phase, through 2 interviews, we identified 4 agile values and described them in language that resonates with breast cancer treatment professionals. The values were then validated by a domain expert and discussed in the context of supporting work from the literature. Final validation entailed a domain expert conducting a walkthrough of the 4 identified agile values to adjust them as per the reported literature. Results: Four agile values were identified for breast cancer treatment, and among them, we validated 3 that conformed to the concept of agility. In this paper, first the notions are defined that are important for running integration projects - system of systems and sociotechnical system and it is then argued that integrated systems should be treated as sociotechnical systems of systems. This is followed by defining the conceptual framework viewpoint framework - required for agile engineering of such systems. Based on the viewpoint framework, the agile software engineering methodology for engineering sociotechnical systems of systems is then defined, proceeding by different viewpoint aspects. Presenting the methodology is illustrated by examples from the ongoing large-scale integration project by the European Union.

Non-Functional requirements (NFRs) are overlooked whereas Functional Requirements (FRs) take the center stage in developing agile software. Research has shown that ignoring NFRs can have negative impacts on the software and could potentially cost more to fix at later stages. This research extends the Capture Elicit Prioritize (CEP) methodology to predict NFRs in the early stages agile software development. Research in other fields such as the medical field have shown that historical data can be beneficial in the long run. In the medical field it was found that historical data can be beneficial in determining patient treatments. The Capture Elicit Prioritize (CEP) methodology extended the NERV and NORMAP methodologies in previous research. The CEP methodology identified 56 out of 57 requirement sentences and was successful in eliciting 98.24% of the baseline an improvement of 10.53% of the NORMAP methodology and 1.75% improvement over the NERV methodology. The NFRs count for the CEP methodology was 86 out of 88 NFRs which was an improvement of 12.49% over the NORMAP methodology and 4.55% over the NERV methodology. The CEP was used and utilized the EU eProcument requirements document. The CEP methodology utilized the capture methodology by gathering potential NFRs using OCR from requirements images. The elicit part took the NFR Locator plus and takes sentences from documents and places them in distinct categories. The NFR categories are defined from the Chung's NFR framework utilizing a set of keywords utilized for training to locate NFRs. The e αβγ-framework was utilized to prioritize the NFRs. Utilizing the data from previous research of the CEP methodology and extending the CEP methodology to include a decision tree to predict future NFRs. A simple decision tree was utilized to make a prediction utilizing the past NFRs data. If a certain NFR appears three times or higher in the requirements document.
