The author seeks a practical approach to complement deterministic design optimization in environmental performance-based building design. This study investigates algorithms and scripted processes to test and monitor the dynamic optimal control of building components. To this end, an integration of wireless data transfer equipment (nRF24L01) and a customized metaheuristic hybrid optimization algorithm (Tabubased adaptive pattern search simulated annealing, T-APSSA) through a parametric visual programming language (VPL) interface (Rhino grasshopper (R)) is presented with experimental design of a responsive kinetic shading device. To demonstrate the performance of the algorithmic hybridization and early design integration, T-APSSA is compared to simulated annealing and pattern (direct) search, and two different approaches to daylight-optimized design solutions are tested: a deterministic optimization based on historical weather data and a site-specific adaptive optimization according to real-time monitoring of incident solar radiance. The suggestion of a seamless environmental building design workflow through remote data communication contributes to strengthening intelligent architectural design decisions.

In this paper, we propose hardware efficient implementation of lifting based 2-D DWT and Sobel based edge detector for detail diagnosis in Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) in real-time. Architecture is developed based on the properties of the endoscopic images and the CMOS sensors. Proposed edge detection scheme works on the compressed DWT coefficients and offers 83.1 % compression ratio (CR). VLSI implementation of the proposed scheme consumes only 17050 standard cells.

In this paper, we propose a concatenated coding scheme involving an outer Reed-Muller (RM) code and an inner Finite Field low-density parity check (LDPC) code of medium length and high rate. It lowers the error floor of inner Finite Field LDPC code. This concatenation scheme offers flexibility in design and it is easy to implement. In addition, the decoding works in a serial turbo manner and has no harmful trapping sets of size smaller than the minimum distance of the outer code. The simulation results indicate that the proposed serial concatenation can eliminate the dominant trapping sets of the inner Finite Field LDPC code.

The paper presents a comparative analysis of extended horizon model predictive control deployed for two various state prediction algorithms designed for discrete-time fractional-order state space systems. The first one is a finite fractional difference state predictor derived on the basis of a finite-length approximation of the fractional-order state space system. In this note, we present a new observer-based controller design method for linear systems with uncertain parameters. After a state of the art review, a novel LMI design procedure is proposed to solve the problem. This new algorithm works in two steps and provides less conservative LMI conditions than those available in the literature. Analytic comparisons related to some old methods are addressed. A simulation example is presented in order to illustrate the superiority of the proposed new algorithm.

There exist a number of algorithms for minimization of MVL functions [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][10][13]. The main objective is to produce near Minimal expressions for MVL functions at an affordable cost (measured in terms of CPU time). Among the proposed heuristic-based techniques', direct cover-based techniques have received the most attention. In this paper, we analyze two of the existing direct cover techniques in terms of the number of implicants needed to synthesize a given function. We introduce five modified techniques and analyze them as well. An overall comparison is conducted among the existing and the proposed techniques. The analysis is based on performance measures of these techniques for 50,000 2-variable 4-valued and 21,000 2-variable 5-valued randomly selected functions. The analysis shows that algorithm DM-MIN-2 outperforms all other considered algorithms. The algorithm introduced by Besslich is outperformed by all considered algorithms.

Recently, ATPG-based design rewiring techniques for logic optimization have gained increasing popularity. In this paper we propose a novel ATPG-based design rewiring methodology that borrows from previous design error diagnosis and correction techniques. We also present examples and experiments that indicate the added potential of our approach which is expected to provide a "powerful" route to design optimization.

The performance of Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm is significantly affected by its parameter setting. But the choice of parameters is heavily dependent on the problem characteristics. Therefore, recently a couple of adaptation schemes that automatically adjust DE parameters have been proposed. The current work presents another adaptation scheme for DE parameters namely amplification factor and crossover rate. We systematically analyze the effectiveness of the proposed adaptation scheme for DE parameters using a standard benchmark suite consisting of ten functions. The undertaken empirical study shows that the proposed adaptive DE (aDE) algorithm exhibits an overall better performance compared to other prominent adaptive DE algorithms as well as canonical DE.
