In many real time interactive simulations the problem of interest management is that of filtering updates through application-specified range queries. This 'associative' form of memory access is often implemented more simply as a reference memory access pattern by discretising the n-Dimensional space in to 'cells'. Range queries then being mapped on to this discretised form. In this paper we leverage previous work on optimising communication in reference memory access systems to provide the same optimisation to associative memory access systems. We define possible semantics of range queries and present three designs along with an analysis of the problem in various applications domains and a discussion of the viability of our designs for each problem domain.

In this paper a recurrent neural network is used as associative memory for pattern recognition. The goal of associative memory is to retrieve a stored pattern when enough information is presented in the network input. The network is training with twelve bipolar patterns to determine the corresponding weights. The weights are calculated by means of support vector machines training algorithms as the optimal hyperplane and soft margin hyperplane. Once the neural network is trained its performance is evaluated to retrieval stored patterns which correspond to characters encoded as bipolar vectors.

Sketching allows analysts to specify complex and free-form patterns of interest. Visual query systems can make use of sketches to locate these patterns of interest in large datasets. However, sketching is ambiguous: the same drawing could represent a multitude of potential queries. In this work, we investigate these ambiguities as they apply to visual query systems for time series data. We define a class of "invariants" - the properties of a time series that the analyst wishes to ignore when performing a sketch-based query. We present the results of a crowd-sourced study, showing that these invariants are key components of how people rate the strength of match between sketch and target. We adapt a number of algorithms for time series matching to support invariants in sketches. Lastly, we present a web-deployed prototype sketch-based visual query system that relies on these invariants. We apply the prototype to data from finance, the digital humanities, and political science.

An important issue of Ant Colony Optimization (A CO) is how to keep the balance between the exploration in search space regions and the exploitation of the search experience gathered so far By using a more exploitative pseudo-random-proportional selection rule, Ant Colony System (ACS) can obtain better results in experiments. But it is limited by finite search space. In this paper a novel cloud-based fuzzy self-adaptive ant colony system (CFSACS) based on ACS is proposed, in which cloud model is used as the fuzzy membership function and a self-adaptive mechanism is constructed. By using the self-adaptive mechanism and the pheromone updating rule of better solution which is determined by the membership function uncertainly, CFSACS can explore search space more effectively than ACS. The proposed CFSACS is demonstrated to be convergent by analyzing the probability model of it. Moreover the simulation results show that the CFSACS is more effective than both ACS and MMAS.

A new Adaptive Post detection Integration (API) algorithm, designated as Conditioned Adaptive Post detection Integration (C-API), is proposed and analyzed. The proposed C-API algorithm overcomes the problem of azimuth resolution degradation in the traditional API, especially for high signal to noise ratios (SNRs), which has not been exploited in any other literature before. Also it gives a robust performance against asynchronous pulse interference. The proposed C-API calculates an estimate for the SNR at the autocorrelation edges at the output of the integration stage of the API. This estimate is then used as a condition strategy to verify the result of the traditional API output. By doing so, a trimming for the autocorrelation edges at the final output is achieved, especially at high SNRs, leading to a remarkable improvement in azimuth resolution without affecting the detection capability. Computer simulation is provided to validate the superiority of the proposed C-API algorithm against the traditional API and the Adaptive Binary Integrator (ABI).

Network capacity and congestion in wireless communication cannot be eluded with the development of technology, users, and services;especially with the increasing of real time data services such as video that needs larger capacity and higher Quality of Service (QoS) requisitions. Meanwhile, network resource (bandwidth) available in a communication network as one of the essential components is very limited. The bandwidth usage rule is necessary so that the efficiency of the network while serving active users can be maximized. A scheduling algorithm has an important role in regulating bandwidth allocation in a wireless communication. It is used to distribute the network resource for all active users effectively. This paper provides a study of a wide variety of scheduling techniques used in Long Term Evolution (LTE) downlink data packets to see their performance specially in handling video real time service. Research on various scheduling algorithms used in LTE network is necessary to discover the characteristics of each algorithm. Simulation results show that Frame Level Scheduling (FLS) algorithm performance is better than other PS algorithms simulated in terms of bandwidth, delay, and fairness when serving video packet data service in LTE network.

In order to solve the problem of content-based image retrieval, this paper defines a new concept of Information Entropy Shift, and proposes a novel image retrieval algorithm based on it. The Information Entropy Shift is defined as the changes of Information Entropy in one direction;it not only describes the statistical feature of an image, but also reflects the spatial Information distribution. On the basis of this concept, this paper presents a new dynamic margin matching algorithm. In this algorithm, the matching problem of information entropy shift sequence is transformed to the matching of the characteristic curve of a binary function;the trend of curve changes is used as the feature to match. Besides, the template matching algorithm in audio processing is referred to deal with the problem too. Experimental results show that the new algorithm has the advantage of high efficiency and is robust to image resizing and translation.

The existence of reliable evaluation datasets for cell image registration algorithms is crucial for quantitative comparison of registration approaches. A new technique for creating real live cell image sequences for this purpose was introduced recently. These datasets contain stable structures bleached by argon laser in the cell nucleus. In this work, we propose an approach for automatic detection of laser-induced linear structures in live cell fluorescent microscopy images. Compared to a previous linear laser-induced structure detection approach, our method employs an active contours model with a Hessian-based image energy term for linear structures enhancement and geometric energy term controlling the geometric relations between the structures. It uses position adaptive tension parameter values to adjust the snakes behavior in problematic regions (end points and intersection points) and a temporal consistent scheme where the results from the previous frame are used as an initial approximation for the current frame. Our approach was successfully applied to real live cell microscopy image sequences and an experimental comparison with an existing laser-induced structures detection method based on minimal paths has been performed.

Indirect measurements of physical parameters of interest often require a mathematical model in which these parameters are estimated accordingly to the gathered measurements. Within the Least Squares estimation, the parameters are estimated through a regression problem. The presence of dynamics, multiple sensors and high sampling rates lead to high dimensional regression matrices. This paper deals with solving such massive regression problems efficiently. We revisit Renaut's Least Squares Multisplitting (LSMS) technique aimed at solving the ordinary least squares problem in parallel. The LSMS decomposes the design matrix column-wise into several (possibly overlapping) blocks. The global least squares solution is subsequently replaced by an equivalent set of local least squares problems which are to be solved in parallel. At every iteration step the local solutions are recombined using an appropriate weighting scheme. This allows for a scalable and highly parallel implementation aimed at distributed systems. We study how to decompose the global estimation problem in smaller subproblems and quantify the effects of various possible partitions. The method is illustrated with dedicated numerical simulations and a toy application in the area of sensor fusion.
