Application of the Multistep Generalized Differential Transform Method to Solve a Time-Fractional Enzyme Kinetics

The multistep differential transform method is first employed to solve a time-fractional enzyme kinetics. This enzyme-substrate reaction is formed by a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations of fractional order. The fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. A comparative study between the new algorithm and the classical Runge-Kutta method is presented in the case of integer-order derivatives. The results demonstrate reliability and efficiency of the algorithm developed.

This paper concentrates on reducing the cost of I/O and improving algorithm efficiency by designing and realizing a spatial data access system based on main memory database (MMDB). We use Redis to manage vector spatial data in main memory which is faster than hard disk or disk-based database in respect of data access. We design a management strategy of spatial data, internal and external data exchange strategy and data backup mechanism. Based on MMDB, we design the model of vector spatial data to describe its form, organization and access methods. The experimental results show that our data access strategy can cut down the time of I/O and improve the algorithm efficiency effectively.

A 3D printed snakebot prototype is developed and experimentally validated in this paper. The structure is designed to allocate limited room for each functional module (including an external power module, battery power module, the wireless control & transmission module and some detective sensors) to ensure the snakebot work in different environments. For controlling and tracking the snakebot, a MEMS IMU (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems Inertial Measurement Units) based snakebot motion tracking system is developed. To minimize the noise influence to tracking accuracy, three algorithms (low-pass filter, baseline calibration, and Kalman filter) are used to eliminate noise from IMU's acceleration data. Through signal processing, the IMU acceleration data can be effectively used for motion tracking. To evaluate the motion tracking algorithm efficiency, the result from a real-time video tracking is employed as a reference for comparison. The comparison results demonstrate high efficiency of the proposed IMU based motion tracking algorithm.

Long-term neurophysiological recordings, such as scalp encephalograms (EEG), have been routinely used in studies that aim to characterize dynamic changes in brain activity associated with normal biological processes, such as sleep, but are also becoming increasingly common for clinical evaluation of patients with neurological disorders, such as epilepsy. Analysis of non-stationary recordings from multiple days poses new signal processing challenges, in regard to algorithm efficiency and computational cost, as well as adequate dimensionality data reduction. We compared four approaches for estimating the underlying temporal dynamics of long-term recordings from patients with medically refractory epilepsy: (i) model order selection using the minimum description length principle, (ii) approximate entropy, (iii) mutual information, and (iv) Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA). Individual approaches were found to be sensitive only to specific scales of variation. Approximate entropy and mutual information were sensitive to local dynamics, whereas dynamic model order estimation captured only slowly varying dynamics. DFA was sensitive to multiple temporal scales.

Influence maximization is a problem for finding a set of seeds to maximize the spread of information in the network. In this article we bring out a context, which is called influence zone. It's very helpful for us to efficient solve the influence maximization problem. The algorithm which is based on it the original greedy algorithm of efficiency and reduce its running time. We evaluate our algorithms by experiments on serval different synthetic networks. During the experiments we also evaluate the relation of algorithm's efficiency and the influence zone factor.

Common parallel computer microarchitectures offer a wide variety of solutions to implement numerical algorithms. The efficiency of different algorithms applied to the same problem vary with the underlying architecture which can be a multi-core CPU, many-core GPU, Intel's MIC (Many Integrated Core) or FPGA architecture. Significant differences between these architectures exist in the ISA (Instruction Set Architecture) and the way the compute flow is executed. The way parallelism is expressed changes with the ISA, thread management and customization available on the device. These differences pose restrictions to the implementable algorithms. The aim of the work is to analyze the efficiency of the algorithms through the architectural differences. The problem at hand is the one-factor Black-Scholes option pricing equation which is a parabolic PDE solved with explicit and implicit time-marching algorithms. In the implicit solution a scalar tridiagonal system of equations needs to be solved. The possible CPU, GPU implementations along with novel FPGA solutions with HLS (High Level Synthesis) will be shown. Performance is also analyzed and remarks on efficiency are made.

Segmentation of ultra-high resolution images is increasingly demanded, yet poses significant challenges for algorithm efficiency, in particular considering the (GPU) memory limits. Current approaches either downsample an ultrahigh resolution image or crop it into small patches for separate processing. In either way, the loss of local fine details or global contextual information results in limited segmentation accuracy. We propose collaborative Global-Local Networks (GLNet) to effectively preserve both global and local information in a highly memory-efficient manner. GLNet is composed of a global branch and a local branch, taking the downsampled entire image and its cropped local patches as respective inputs. For segmentation, GLNet deeply fuses feature maps from two branches, capturing both the high-resolution fine structures from zoomed-in local patches and the contextual dependency from the down-sampled input. To further resolve the potential class imbalance problem between background and foreground regions, we present a coarse-to-fine variant of GLNet, also being memory-efficient. Extensive experiments and analyses have been performed on three real-world ultra-high aerial and medical image datasets (resolution up to 30 million pixels). With only one single 1080Ti GPU and less than 2GB memory used, our GLNet yields high-quality segmentation results and achieves much more competitive accuracy-memory usage trade-offs compared to state-of-the-arts.

In this paper, we propose a distributed and parallel subarray beamforming (DPS) algorithm for performing underwater real-time 3-D acoustic imaging. The principle idea of this algorithm is that the full populated sensor array is subdivided into two stage distributed subarrays and the beamforming is carried out in parallel for each stage subarray. The proposed algorithm overcomes the problems of massive computational load affecting the engineering applications of the conventional beamforming techniques, while achieving the similar resolutions. The memory requirement obtained with the proposed algorithm is reduced by four orders of magnitude and the computational requirement is reduced by two orders of magnitude when compared with the conventional beamforming (CBF). The simulation and the comparisons illustrate the results and the efficiency of the algorithm.

We present a method for lossy compression of three dimensional gray scale images that is based on a 3D linear spline approximation to the image. We have extended an approach that has previously been successfully applied in two dimensions. In our method, we first select significant points in the data, and use them to create a 3D tetrahedralization. The tetrahedrons of the tetrahedralization are used as cells for a linear interpolation spline that gives an approximation of the original image. The compression is done by storing the positions of the vertices of the tetrahedralization and the values there instead of the value of the approximation at each grid point. We introduce a novel concept of using a smoothed version of the original image to improve the quality of the approximating spline. To increase the efficiency of the algorithm, we combine it with a refinement/decimation technique. We compare our compression technique to JPG2000 3D. We show that our algorithm performs similarly to, and in some cases even outperforms it, for high compression ratios. Our approach gives images that have significantly different properties than ones created using wavelets, and have the potential of being more suitable for some applications. In addition, this type of compression is particularly suitable for visualization.
