In this paper we propose a new feature extraction scheme for hyperspectral images based on mutual information. Relevance of extracted feature set to class label has been measured by average of mutual information between each of them and class label and Redundancy of them is measured by average of mutual information between each pair of them. Based on relevance of features and redundancy between them, we propose a cost function that maximize relevance of extracted features and simultaneously minimize redundancy between them. This cost function has been already used for feature selection. In this paper we will find the parameters of an optimal linear mapping by optimizing the proposed cost function with respect them. Linear methods are attractive due to their simplicity. Because of nonlinear and nonconvex relation between proposed cost function and the parameters, we use genetic algorithm for optimization. Mutual information accounts for higher order statistics, not just for second order as PCA and LDA do. Hence mutual information is a better criterion for hyperspectral images because they have higher order statistics than two. Our classification results for AVARIS data shows proposed method has better performance over PCA and LDA.

A hybrid particle swarm-genetic algorithm optimization scheme was combined with Nelder and Mead's simplex method to produce an experimental hybrid method that integrates the global search capabilities of evolutionary heuristics with the highly effective localized search ability of the simplex method. This algorithm was applied to various missile design problems where the goal is to design a missile that can match the given flight trajectory. Three different flight trajectories were analyzed for this work: a 117 km trajectory, a 164 km trajectory, and a 221 km trajectory. The efficiency and effectiveness of the performance of the simplex method was compared with the performance of the same algorithm using the pattern search method as the local search routine in lieu of the simplex method. Optimizer performance was evaluated according to two criteria: (1) "fitness function" accuracy (how closely solutions are able to match a given objective function), and (2) convergence speed (how many calls to the objective function are required in order to reach an acceptable solution). The pattern search proved to be a more robust and reliable algorithm for such a large and complex solution space, as it was always able to avoid getting lost in the solution space. Conversely, the simplex method would occasionally become trapped around a bad solution, typically while traversing regions of the solution space sensitive to discontinuities formed by mixed-variable conversions.

A cloud-based encoding pipeline which generates streams for video-on-demand distribution typically processes a wide diversity of content that exhibit varying signal characteristics. To produce the best quality video streams, the system needs to adapt the encoding to each piece of content, in an automated and scalable way. In this paper, we describe two algorithm optimizations for a distributed cloud-based encoding pipeline: (i) per-title complexity analysis for bitrate-resolution selection;and (ii) per-chunk bitrate control for consistent-quality encoding. These improvements result in a number of advantages over a simple "one-size-fits-all" encoding system, including more efficient bandwidth usage and more consistent video quality.

Magnetic induction (MI) based communication and power transfer systems have gained an increased attention in the recent years. Typical applications for these systems lie in the area of wireless charging, near-field communication, and wireless sensor networks. For an optimal system performance, the power efficiency needs to be maximized. Typically, this optimization refers to the impedance matching and tracking of the split-frequencies. However, an important role of magnitude and phase of the input signal has been mostly overlooked. Especially for the wireless power transfer systems with multiple transmitter coils, the optimization of the transmit signals can dramatically improve the power efficiency. In this work, we propose an iterative algorithm for the optimization of the transmit signals for a transmitter with three orthogonal coils and multiple single coil receivers. The proposed scheme significantly outperforms the traditional baseline algorithms in terms of power efficiency.

Compressed sensing (CS) theory relies on sparse representations in order to recover signals from an under-sampled set of measurements. The sensing mechanism is described by the projection matrix, which should possess certain properties to guarantee high quality signal recovery, using efficient algorithms. Although the major breakthrough in compressed sensing results is obtained for random matrices, recent efforts have shown that CS performance could be improved with optimized non-random projections. Designing matrices that satisfy CS theoretical requirements is closely related to the construction of equiangular tight frames, a problem that has applications in various scientific fields like sparse approximations, coding, and communications. In this paper, we employ frame theory and propose an algorithm for the optimization of the projection matrix that improves sparse signal recovery.

Aiming at the low efficiency of handwork and high labor intensity, an automatic solution for perforated discs assembly is developed based on computer vision. This technology consists of the processes of material feeding, parts handling, circle detecting and assembling. The mechatronic structure includes the pneumatic elements and electric actuators that controlled by PLC and stepper motor drivers. This method has solved the problem of the large cost of human force since this product has a big industrial production. Meanwhile, a contour optimized Hough circle transform(CHCT) is proposed. It can overcome the standard Hough circle transform(HCT)'s disadvantages, such as redundant calculation and probability of failures. It enhances the reliability in order to satisfy the demand of industrial automatic production. The image processing takes only about 60 ms and reaches 100% success rate with a small detection error. This method also has the generality for the similar assembly system based on machine vision.

This paper provides a theory and associated algorithm for the optimization of autonomous and controlled hybrid systems on Lie groups. First, a geometrical derivation of the Hybrid Minimum Principle (HMP) for hybrid systems whose state manifolds constitute a Lie group (G, *) which is left invariant under the controlled dynamics of the system is presented. Second, a geometrical algorithm is developed by employing the notion of exponential curves on Lie groups. The convergence analysis for the proposed algorithm is based on Lasalle Theory. Simulation results are provided at the end of the paper.

This paper provided a new high-precision spectrum analysis algorithm based on polyphase filter banks namely the double-path polyphase filter bank(DPPF) *** traditional single-path polyphase filter bank algorithm could be replaced by double-path polyphase filter bank algorithm,thereby making sub-channel transition bands of the first path fully coincide with sub-channel pass bands of the second *** results showed that the new algorithm had overcome the channelized digital receiver blind areas generated by D times decimation as well as realized high-precision real time spectrum analysis.

In RTNS 2016, Rihani et al. [7] proposed an algorithm to compute the impact of interference on memory accesses on the timing of a task graph. It calculates a static, time-triggered schedule, i.e. a release date and a worst-case response time for each task. The task graph is a DAG, typically obtained by compilation of a high-level dataflow language, and the tool assumes a previously determined mapping and execution order. The algorithm is precise, but suffers from a high O(n4) complexity, n being the number of input tasks. Since we target many-core platforms with tens or hundreds of cores, applications likely to exploit the parallelism of these platforms are too large to be handled by this algorithm in reasonable *** paper proposes a new algorithm that solves the same problem. Instead of performing global fixed-point iterations on the task graph, we compute the static schedule incrementally, reducing the complexity to O(n2). Experimental results show a reduction from 535 seconds to 0.90 seconds on a benchmark with 384 tasks, i.e. 593 times faster.

Electric vehicle battery modeling and state-of-charge prediction has gained a lot of importance with the growing range anxiety among electric vehicle users. The future of battery implementation in electric vehicles might be in their customized design according to specific journey conditions. As such, this paper highlights the application of a novel concept - Journey Mapping for a Ford Focus Electric 2012's battery characterization and SOC prediction with the help of Genetic algorithm and the Recursive Least Squares techniques respectively. The Journey Mapping concept, which re-defines driving cycles in order to better capture the journey of a vehicle by including various external conditions such as weather, terrain, traffic, driver behavior, road, aerodynamic and vehicle proved to be a a more accurate testing bed for electric vehicle battery modeling.
