In the field of natural language processing, many tasks, including language learning and machine translation, need to find lexical level correspondences between texts in different languages. Finding this correspondence can improve the quality of machine translation and the accuracy of cross-language information retrieval. Therefore, this paper proposes to design a lexical alignment algorithm based on multi-feature extraction to solve this problem. In this paper, Taking the alignment accuracy rate, which can best reflect the performance of the alignment algorithm, as an example, the experimental group based on the proposed method has an average alignment accuracy of 96.97%, while the comparison group, that is, the alignment algorithm based on the multivariate knowledge base index based on Bert, has an average alignment accuracy of 94.53%. In other words, when compared with other resident languages, the proposed method still has advantages, so the multi-feature technique can be used to design the lexical alignment algorithm of the corpus well. © 2024 IEEE.

Impact of alignment algorithm on the estimation of pairwise genetic similarity of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV)

BackgroundPorcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a major threat to the swine industry. It is caused by the PRRS virus (PRRSV). Determination and comparison of the nucleotide sequences of PRRSV strains provides useful information in support of control initiatives or epidemiological studies on transmission patterns. The alignment of sequences is the first step in analyzing sequence data, with multiple algorithms being available, but little is known on the impact of this methodological choice. Here, a study was conducted to evaluate the impact of different alignment algorithms on the resulting aligned sequence dataset and on practical issues when applied to a large field database of PRRSV open reading frame (ORF) 5 sequences collected in Quebec, Canada, from 2010 to 2014. Five multiple sequence alignment programs were compared: Clustal W, Clustal Omega, Muscle, T-Coffee and *** resulting alignments showed very similar results in terms of average pairwise genetic similarity, proportion of pairwise comparisons having 97.5% genetic similarity and sum of pairs (SP) score, except for T-Coffee where increased length of aligned datasets as well as limitation to handle large datasets were *** on efficiency at minimizing the number of gaps in different dataset sizes with default open gap values as well as the capability to handle a large number of sequences in a timely manner, the use of Clustal Omega might be recommended for the management of PRRSV extensive database for both research and surveillance purposes.

For mixed-guided airborne missiles, to ensure accurate handover from midcourse to terminal guidance, the carrier and missile shall be within a unified coordinate system during data transfer. To eliminate mounting precision errors and assess the missile-carrier alignment errors excited by different speeds, heights, attitudes, overloads, maneuvers and other conditions when elastic and torsional deformations are generated due to the aerodynamic force during the flight of the mounted missile, measurement methods are proposed in this paper. An engineeringly-feasible verification scheme for alignment error transfer relationships is also studied and developed through experiments, and the convergence speed and accuracy of the alignment algorithm are verified experimentally, proving that the scheme can be applied to evaluate transfer alignment on a moving base.

RefDetect: A Multi-Language Refactoring Detection Tool Based on String alignment

Refactoring is performed to improve software quality while leaving the behaviour of the software unchanged. Identifying refactorings applied to a software system is an important activity that leads to a better understanding of the evolution of the software system, and several techniques have been proposed and implemented to address this issue. The vast majority of existing refactoring detection techniques are language-specific, including the accepted state of the art, RMiner, which is exclusively Java-based. Although impressive performance has been achieved to date, there is scope for improvement in refactoring detection and such improvement would enhance both refactoring research and practice. In this paper, we propose a novel, language-neutral technique to identify refactorings in commit histories. Our approach is motivated by a desire to explore the use of string alignment algorithms in refactoring detection, and to determine if such approaches are competitive with the state of the art. The proposed approach has been implemented in a tool called RefDetect, evaluated, and compared with the current state-of-the-art refactoring detection tool: RMiner. In experiments we applied RefDetect to 514 commits of 185 Java applications containing 5,058 true refactoring instances, achieving an f-score slightly better than that achieved by RMiner (87.3% vs. 86%). RefDetect clearly outperformed RMiner in method and class based refactorings, achieving f-scores respectively of 87.7% vs. 81.7% for method-level refactorings and 92.1% vs. 86.9% for class-level refactorings. To demonstrate the language-independence of RefDetect, we conducted a further study with four C++ applications, achieving high values for both precision (96.1%) and recall (94.1%). The achieved results indicate that RefDetect performs better than the current state of the art in refactoring detection and is demonstrably capable of handling different programming languages.

Mesoscopic optical imaging of an ultra-large biological sample demands a large enough field of view (FOV) in order to reduce the requirement of extensive digital image stitching operations. For an objective lens with a specific magnification, when we continue extending the FOV, the adverse effects of optical aberrations become prominent. One of such effects is radial distortion towards the edges and corners of a square-shaped FOV. Consequently, when we attempt to mosaic/stitch multiple of such radially distorted adjacent tiles, it often becomes challenging to avoid artifacts or discontinuity of structures especially at the joining of such adjacent tiles. To address the same, we apply a pre-estimated opposite radial distortion to each acquired tile prior to applying an alignment algorithm. Employing a brute-forced approach, we one-time quantify a suitable compensating radial distortion. We apply this method in a custom-built large-FOV nonlinear optical microscope (NLOM) system and demonstrate an artifact-free mosaic-stitching operation.

In population and clinical-based studies, UV wearable sensors are increasingly being used to estimate UV exposure and time spent in physical activity outdoors, which is critical for understanding people's sun exposure behavior. This is particularly important in young adults at risk of developing melanoma as well as melanoma survivors, who want to continue engaging in outdoor activities which are a normal source of recreational physical activity. While wearable sensors provide objective and timely measures in free-living populations, self-report data are needed to provide important contextual information (e.g. sunscreen applied, clothing to protect from the sun) that improve our understanding of health behaviors. However, lack of proper time alignment between sensor and self-report data hinders analyses incorporating these data streams. We formulate this problem of alignment as a network flow graph and propose a Sensor Self-Report alignment (SSRA) framework to fuse and align data from a chest-worn UV sensor, a hip-worn physical activity sensor, and a self-report. We performed a study on 40 participants (20 melanoma survivors, 20 young adults, who were first-degree relatives of melanoma survivors) who wore a chest-worn UV sensor and a hip-worn physical activity sensor for 7 consecutive summer days (total of 254 days assessed) and provided end-of-day self-reports of sun protection. The proposed SSRA framework provides a new approach to aligning sensor and self-report data, which results in significant changes in measures of time outdoors, as assessed by UV or physical activity sensors. This paper highlights the importance of using wearable sensors and alignment to self-report to reduce sun exposure assessment error, while laying the groundwork for integrating such a framework into population-based studies.

A Geometric Error Modeling Method and Trajectory Optimization Applied in Laser Welding System

In this paper, a geometric error modeling method is carried out on six-axis motion platform (SMP) in laser welding system (LWS), and an optimized algorithm is proposed for the alignment in LWS based on the error model. First, the topological structure of the given SMP is analyzed, and related homogeneous transformation matrices which are used for standing the orientation of SMP are established. By these matrices, the geometric error model is developed mathematically. Then, the error model is used for predicting the alignment deviations. A corresponding series of experiments for calculating the optical power loss in alignment are employed, and the comparison between simulation and experiments results indicate the validation of the error model. Furthermore, an optimized algorithm is applied to search the optimum aligning trajectory. Compared to conventional method, this algorithm has a broader range in searching extreme value, which can reduce the computational volume and improve the efficiency. It is also beneficial for improving the success rate of escaping from the local minimum spot and finding the optimum alignment spot. The error model is helpful to analyze the error propagation process and improve the alignment efficiency in LWS, which can be applied to other similar multi-axis precise system.

As the length of sequencing read increasing, greater bioinformation is demanded from long-read aligner. The short-read aligner is often widely used to make alignment very fast and accurate, but the approach is ill-suited to finding longer, gapped alignments with long indels. A wide variety of alignment algorithms and aligners have been subsequently developed over the past few years. In this article, we survey the theoretical foundations that underlie long-read alignments and highlight the options and practical trade-offs that need to be considered. Through the evaluation of the sophisticated experiments both on simulated and real data, we illustrate the performance of these aligners on the accuracy, the time and memory cost, as well as the scalability for the modern multi-core architecture. We also consider the future development of long-read alignment algorithms.

INDEX: Incremental depth extension approach for protein-protein interaction networks alignment

High-throughput methods have provided us with a large amount of data pertaining to protein-protein interaction networks. The alignment of these networks enables us to better understand biological systems. Given the fact that the alignment of networks is computationally intractable, it is important to introduce a more efficient and accurate algorithm which finds as large as possible similar areas among networks. This paper proposes a new algorithm named INDEX for the global alignment of protein-protein interaction networks. INDEX has multiple phases. First, it computes topological and biological scores of proteins and creates the initial alignment based on the proposed matching score strategy. Using networks topologies and aligned proteins, it then selects a set of high scoring proteins in each phase and extends new alignments around them until final alignment is obtained. Proposing a new alignment strategy, detailed consideration of matching scores, and growth of the alignment core has led INDEX to obtain a larger common connected subgraph with a much greater number of edges compared with previous methods. Regarding other measures such as edge correctness, symmetric substructure score, and run-time, the proposed algorithm performed considerably better than existing popular methods.
