analog network coding is considered in relay network to avoid the spectrum loss introduced by half-duplex property of the relay mode. Transmission rate is mainly concerned point by the previous researches. However, as the desire of green radio communication, energy-efficiency is more and more considered in the system design recently. In this paper, several high energy-efficiency schemes are proposed in multiple relays cooperative networks with analog network coding. The high energy-efficiency schemes are designed to minimize the overall energy consumption when the certain transmission rate is achieved. The numerical simulations show that the proposed schemes are very close to the lower bound of energy consumption.

This paper discusses different modulation schemes for the decoding of signals in analog network coding (ANC). analog network coding is a concept in which interference of the signals is considered as advantage rather than disadvantage. Router interferes the signal transmitted from two nodes that want communication between them. At the receiving end the node subtracts its own signal to decode the signal transmitted by the sender. Signal decoding at the receiving end is not a simple problem. Signal has to traverse through the channel to reach the receiver. Channel imparts many distortions in the signal in the form of magnitude and phase. Retrieval of the correct information of the signal in terms of its amplitude and phase is very important. The decoding of the signal at the receiving end depends upon number of factors and one of them is the modulation scheme used. In this paper we use different modulation schemes such as ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying), FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) and MSK (Minimum Shift Keying). We discuss how these modulation schemes affect the analog network coding process. Models are proposed for the retrieval of the signals. Simulations are performed to prove the results. Matlab/Simulink is used as a tool for simulations.

SER and throughput analysis of space-time analog network coded relaying system over shadowed Rician fading channels

This research article presents an innovative approach based on analog network coding (ANC) in conjunction with space time block coding (STBC) which is termed as space time analog network coding (STANC). The STANC investigated as an affective network coding strategy to combat the effects of shadowing and path loss in wireless networks. The another objective of this research work is to evaluate the impact of relay location on system performance in increasing shadowing effect due to increasing tall structure like multistory building in metropolitan area. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed in terms of symbol error rate (SER), STANC gain and ergodic capacity using analytical expressions. Moment generating function approach is used to drive the SER for M-PSK modulated signals. The approximate closed-form expression of ergodic capacity is presented using the derived mean and second moment for STANC based cooperative system. Rician shadowed model is used which efficiently evaluate the effect of shadowing as compared to other fading models given in the literature which is the main advantage of this model. Numerical results signify that the approximated analytical expressions derived can be effectively used for performance improvement under path loss and shadowing effect as compared to simple ANC based system.

Optimized Cooperative Multiple Access in Industrial Cognitive networks

We consider optimized cooperation in joint orthogonal multiple access and nonorthogonal multiple access in industrial cognitive networks, in which lots of devices may have to share spectrum and some devices (e.g., those for critical control devices) have higher transmission priority, known as primary users. We consider one secondary transmitter (less important devices) as a potential relay between a primary transmitter and receiver pair. The choice of cooperation scheme differs in terms of use cases. With decode-and-forward relaying, the channel between the primary and secondary users limits the achievable rates especially when it experiences poor channel conditions. To alleviate this problem, we apply analog network coding to directly combine the received primary message for relaying with the secondary message. We find achievable rate regions for these two schemes over Rayleigh fading channels. We then investigate an optimization problem jointly considering orthogonalmultiple access and nonorthogonal multiple access, where the secondary rate is maximized under the constraint of maintaining the primary rate. We find both analytical solutions as well as solutions based on experiments through the time sharing strategy between the primary and secondary system and the transmit power allocation strategy at the secondary transmitter. We show the performance improvements of exploiting analog network coding and the impacts of cooperative schemes and user geometry on achievable rates and resource sharing strategies.

Distributed User Scheduling for MIMO-Y Channel

In this paper, distributed user scheduling schemes are proposed for the multi-user MIMO-Y channel, where three N-T-antenna users (N-T = 2N, 3N) are selected from three clusters to exchange information via an NR-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay (N-R = 3N), and N >= 1 represents the number of data stream(s) of each unicast transmission within the MIMO-Y channel. The proposed schemes effectively harvest multi-user diversity (MuD) without the need of global channel state information (CSI) or centralized computations. In particular, a novel reference signal space (RSS) is proposed to enable the distributed scheduling for both cluster-wise (CS) and group-wise (GS) patterns. The minimum user-antenna (Min-UA) transmission with N-T = 2N is first considered. Next, we consider an equal number of relay and user antenna (ER-UA) transmission with N-T = 3N, with the aim of reducing CSI overhead as compared to Min-UA. For ER-UA transmission, the achievable MuD orders of the proposed distributed scheduling schemes are analytically derived, which proves the superiority and optimality of the proposed RSS-based distributed scheduling. These results reveal some fundamental behaviors of MuD and the performance-complexity tradeoff of user scheduling schemes in the MIMO-Y channel.

In this paper, joint transmit/receive frequency-domain equalization (FDE) is proposed for analog network coded (ANC) single-carrier (SC) bi-directional multi-antenna relay. In the proposed scheme, diversity transmission using transmit FDE is performed at relay station (RS) equipped with multiple antennas while receive FDE is carried out at base station (BS) and mobile terminal (MT) both equipped with single antenna. The transmit and receive FDE weights are jointly optimized so as to minimize the end-to-end mean square error (MSE). We evaluate, by computer simulation, the throughput performance and show that the joint transmit/receive FDE obtains the spatial and frequency diversity gains and accordingly achieve better throughput performance compared to either the transmit FDE only or the receive FDE only. It is also shown that ANC SC bi-directional multi-antenna relay can extend the communication coverage area for the given required throughput compared to conventional direct transmission

Utility Maximization for Two-Way AF Relaying Under Rate Outage Constraints

In this paper, we focus on maximizing the system utility (e.g., the weighted sum-rate, weighted geometric mean rate, and the harmonic mean rate) of a two-way relay network (TWRN) from the outage probability perspective;a TWRN has multiple relay nodes and two terminal nodes. We assume amplify-and-forward relaying with analog network coding protocol and half-duplex transmission with perfect channel state information at the receiver ends and channel distribution information at the transmitter ends. We derive the approximated closed-form for the outage probability of a TWRN;however, the approximated outage constraints lead to a non-convex structure for the considered problem. Based on the successive convex approximation technique, we obtain near optimal solution for the non-convex problem. Moreover, we derive closed-form solutions for the maximization problem for the weighted sum rate maximization problem for a TWRN with a single relay node and two relay nodes under individual power constraints. Our simulation results demonstrate the accuracy of our outage probability approximation model and the advantages of our algorithm over naive methods of full and uniform power allocation.

Coordinating Interfering Transmissions in Cooperative Wireless LANs

In this paper we present a cooperative medium access control (MAC) protocol that is designed for a physical layer that can decode interfering transmissions in distributed wireless networks. The proposed protocol pro-actively enforces two independent packet transmissions to interfere in a controlled and cooperative manner. The protocol ensures that when a node desires to transmit a unicast packet, regardless of the destination, it coordinates with minimal overhead with relay nodes in order to concurrently transmit over the wireless channel with a third node. The relay is responsible for allowing packets from the two selected nodes to interfere only when the desired packets can be decoded at the appropriate destinations and increase the sum-rate of the cooperative transmission. In case this is not feasible, classic cooperative or direct transmission is adopted. To enable distributed, uncoordinated, and adaptive operation of the protocol, a relay selection mechanism is introduced so that the optimal relay is selected dynamically and depending on the channel conditions. The most important advantage of the protocol is that interfering transmissions can originate from completely independent unicast transmissions from two senders. We present simulation results that validate the efficacy of our proposed scheme in terms of throughput and delay.

Multi-User Scheduling for network Coded Two-Way Relay Channel in Cellular Systems

There has been a growing interest in analog network coding, which can improve system throughput and spectrum efficiency significantly in wireless systems. Two-way relay scenario is considered in this paper, where the base station (BS) and the relay are both equipped with multiple antennas, and each of K user equipments (UEs) in the cell has a single antenna. An advanced multi-user scheduling scheme is proposed for the analog network coded two-way relay channel, where UEs and BS exchange information via the relay node during two time slots. Because each UE with single antenna has poor transmission and reception capability, the scheduling scheme is carefully designed to decrease multi-user interference and optimize beamforming gain from BS to relay. Analytical results of sum rate and outage probability have been developed to demonstrate that the multi-user diversity gain can be achieved by the proposed scheme. Meanwhile, the user fairness of the proposed scheme is on the same order as that of round robin (RR), and the computation complexity only increases linearly with the number of users in the serving cell. Monte-Carlo simulation is conducted to exhibit the performance gains from the proposed scheduling scheme. Results show that the proposed channel correlation based user selection scheme outperforms existing traditional scheduling schemes significantly, even when the cellular user payload is low.

Maximum a Posteriori Based Channel Estimation Strategy for Two-Way Relaying Channels

Wireless network coding can significantly improve the spectrum efficiency for relaying transmission when receivers can acquire accurate channel state information (CSI). In this paper, the channel estimation problem for two-way relaying channels is considered where two sources exchange information through an amplify-and-forward relay employing analog network coding protocol. By taking advantage of the apriori information of wireless channels to further improve channel estimation accuracy, the maximum a posteriori (MAP) based estimation schemes are developed to estimate the composite source-source channel coefficients and the amplitude of individual source-relay channels with apriori knowledge of channel distribution information (CDI). Variations of MAP estimation algorithms are also developed for systems under practical constraints where channel CDI needs to be estimated. In particular, scale MAP estimator as well as a long term estimation algorithm is developed to effectively control the negative impact of CDI estimation error on MAP estimation performance. The simulation results show that the MAP based estimation strategies consistently outperform maximum likelihood estimation methods in the measure of mean square error, thus establishes the advantage of presented MAP based schemes.
