We introduce node-variant graph filters, which allow the simultaneous implementation of multiple (regular) graph filters at different nodes, and study their design to implement arbitrary linear transformations between graph signals. Node-variant graph filters can be implemented distributedly, making them suitable for networked settings. We determine spectral conditions under which a specific linear transformation can be implemented perfectly and, for the cases where perfect implementation is infeasible, the design of optimal approximations for different error metrics is analyzed. We demonstrate the practical relevance of the developed framework by studying the application of node-variant graph filters for analog network coding.

This paper proposes a new optimal cooperative jamming (CJ) strategy in the analog network coding (ANC) system against both external and internal eavesdroppers. Firstly, we derive the ANC system security capacity with CJ against eavesdroppers. On this basis, we analyze the jamming power allocation between two time slots subject to a total jamming power constraint. The simulation results show that using CJ in the ANC system can make eavesdroppers decode no confidential information, and the optimal jamming power allocation factor is one, which means that the optimal CJ strategy in the ANC system is to use all constrained jamming power on sending jamming signals only in the first time slot.

A novel generalized iterative approach (GIA) is proposed for jointly designing the MMSE MIMO processors (precoders, relay processors and decoders) for the analog network coding scheme. The MMSE performance can be achieved for MIMO communication links with two end nodes and multiple relay nodes subject to either the per-node power constraint or the practical per-antenna power constraint. Numerical results show that the analog network coding scheme is more spectral and energy efficient than the conventional Direct Transmission (DT) scheme.

In this paper, we consider a general bi-directional relay network with two sources and N relays when neither the source nodes nor the relays know the channel state information (CSI). A bi-directional relay selection scheme is proposed using differential analog network coding (BRS-DANC), and a simple linear detector is given to recover the received signals. In the proposed scheme, we provide an optimal and a sub-optimal methods to select the relay node from a single source by minimizing the average symbol error rate (SER). The performance of the proposed BRS-DANC scheme is analyzed, and a simple asymptotic SER expression is derived. It is shown that the SER performance of the proposed differential scheme is about 3 dB away from that of the coherent detection scheme.

network coding, as a new technique to improve the throughput, is studied combined with multi-relay model in this paper to address the challenges of long distance and power limit in deep space communication. First, an amplify-and-forward relaying approach based on analog network coding (AFNC) is proposed in multi-relay network to improve the capacity for deep space communication system, where multiple relays are introduced to overcome the long distance link loss. The design of amplification coefficients is mathematically formulated as the optimization problem of maximizing SNR under sum-power constraint over relays. Then for a dual-hop relay network with a single source, the optimal amplification coefficients are derived when the multiple relays introduce non-coherent noise. Through theoretic analysis and simulation, it is shown that our approach can achieve the maximum transmission rate and perform better over single link transmission for deep space communication.

Distributed User Scheduling for MIMO-Y Channel

In this paper, distributed user scheduling schemes are proposed for the multi-user MIMO-Y channel, where three N-T-antenna users (N-T = 2N, 3N) are selected from three clusters to exchange information via an NR-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay (N-R = 3N), and N >= 1 represents the number of data stream(s) of each unicast transmission within the MIMO-Y channel. The proposed schemes effectively harvest multi-user diversity (MuD) without the need of global channel state information (CSI) or centralized computations. In particular, a novel reference signal space (RSS) is proposed to enable the distributed scheduling for both cluster-wise (CS) and group-wise (GS) patterns. The minimum user-antenna (Min-UA) transmission with N-T = 2N is first considered. Next, we consider an equal number of relay and user antenna (ER-UA) transmission with N-T = 3N, with the aim of reducing CSI overhead as compared to Min-UA. For ER-UA transmission, the achievable MuD orders of the proposed distributed scheduling schemes are analytically derived, which proves the superiority and optimality of the proposed RSS-based distributed scheduling. These results reveal some fundamental behaviors of MuD and the performance-complexity tradeoff of user scheduling schemes in the MIMO-Y channel.

With the rapid increase of energy consumption and environment problems, the need for green techniques and harvesting energy is emerging. network coding can provide the solution by the reduction of the unnecessary data transmission and the estimated traffic patterns. It can also amplify the synergy in an energy harvesting capable cognitive radio (CR) network since the CR has the recognition and optimal decision functionalities. In this paper, we propose stochastic policy based wireless energy harvesting in green cognitive radio network. With the simulations, we show that the proposed scheme is better up to 20 % of the previous work.

Secure Transmission in Cooperative networks with Weak Eavesdroppers

In this letter, we propose a scheme to improve the secrecy rate of cooperative networks using analog network coding (ANC). ANC mixes the signals in the air;the desired signal is then separated out, from the mixed signals, at the legitimate receiver using techniques like self interference subtraction and signal nulling, thereby achieving better secrecy rates. Assuming global channel state information, memoryless adversaries and the decode-and-forward strategy, we seek to maximize the average secrecy rate between the source and the destination, subject to an overall power budget. Then, exploiting the structure of the optimization problem, we compute its optimal solution. Finally, we use numerical evaluations to compare our scheme with the conventional approaches.

Inducing Collisions for Fast RFID Tag Identification

Efficient tag reading is one of the major challenges in RFID systems. So far, most of the literature has assumed that interference is intrinsically harmful and must be avoided. For this reason, prior work aims at singulating tag transmissions in order to prevent collisions. In this letter we adopt the opposite approach: Rather than working against interference, we embrace the collision of radio waves. We propose a new protocol, called TIANC, which uses multiple antennas and analog network coding (ANC) to recover the original tag transmissions. Performance analysis shows that TIANC achieves substantial speed improvement, performing up to 2.3 times faster than previously proposed mechanisms.
