The increasing prominence of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in research has resulted in a heightened focus on their applications in both civilian and military sectors. As UAVs persist in playing an essential role in the future, understanding the minimum safety distances required for swarms during transportation between locations becomes crucial. Maintaining optimal safety distances is vital for preventing collisions and maximizing the efficient use of airspace. This paper investigates a Machine Learning (ML) approach to address this concern for fleets comprising ten or more swarm vehicles, employing a PX4/ROS/Gazebo-based digital simulation system framework to determine the minimum safety distance in various UAV transportation settings.

The paper describes the implementation of an efficient user interface for applied software in distributed computing systems. As part of this work, a software platform has been developed for the formation of problem-oriented interfaces for application software packages and components of distributed computing systems. The main purpose of the system is to simplify the input of technical settings, launch specific jobs if required and monitor all intermediate processes. Thus, it provides an intuitive user interface for working directly with an application system, and does not require knowledge of low-level operations. Using web services and modern information technology, the developed platform makes it possible to create a set of simple and convenient interfaces for researchers who use high-performance computer systems in their work. As an example, we describe the adaptation of the FHI98md code for a Grid system.

Framework-specific models represent the design of application code from the framework viewpoint by showing how framework-provided concepts are instantiated in the code. Retrieving such models quickly and precisely is necessary for practical model-supported software engineering, in which developers use design models for development tasks such as code understanding, verifying framework usage rules, and round-trip engineering. Also, comparing models extracted at different times of the software lifecycle supports software evolution tasks. We describe an experimental study of the static analyses necessary to automatically retrieve framework-specific models from application code. We reverse engineer a number of applications based on three open-source frameworks and evaluate the quality of the retrieved models. The models are expressed using framework-specific modeling languages (FSMLs), each designed for an open-source framework. For reverse engineering, we use prototype implementations of the three FSMLs. Our results show that for the considered frameworks and a large body of application code rather simple code analyses are sufficient for automatically retrieving framework-specific models with high precision and recall. Based on the initial results, we refine the static analyses and repeat the study on a larger set of applications to provide more evidence and confirm the results. The refined static analyses provide precision and recall of close to 100% for the analyzed applications.

In recent years, the information retrieval (IR) community has witnessed the first successful applications of deep neural network models to short-text matching and ad-hoc retrieval tasks. However, the two communities focused on deep neural networks and on IR have less in common when it comes to the choice of programming languages. Indri, an indexing framework popularly used by the IR community, is written in C++, while Torch, a popular machine learning library for deep learning, is written in the light-weight scripting language Lua. To bridge this gap, we introduce Luandri (pronounced "laundry"), a simple interface for exposing the search capabilities of Indri to Torch models implemented in Lua.

In this paper, we present the English Dialects App (EDA) and the English Dialects App Corpus (EDAC). EDA is a free iOS and Android app, launched in January 2016 that features a dialect quiz and dialect recordings. For the quiz, users indicate which variants of 26 words they use and the application guesses their local dialect;for the recordings, users can record a short text. The result is EDAC which includes metadata on mobility, ethnicity, age, educational level, and gender. More than 47,000 users from across the UK have indicated dialect variants for these 26 words, and more than 3,500 users have provided audio recordings. Unavoidably, EDAC does not successfully reflect distributions of age, ethnicity, qualification levels, and other parameters found for the UK population given that smartphone-based research reaches a specific stratum of the population. Yet there are also clear benefits to the sampling strategy used – benefits and pitfalls are discussed in this article. Future analyses will provide the most comprehensive understanding of English regional dialect variation since the work of the traditional dialectologists. We showcase two such analyses in this article. EDAC should, we demonstrate, be of interest to researchers in dialectology but also in forensic phonetics. © 2017 The Authors

At present, there are a large number of variants of malware and are constantly updated. The generalization of detection algorithms based on traditional machine learning methods is attenuated and the accuracy rate is constantly declining. This paper proposes a multi-feature fusion bi-directional temporal convolutional networks (BiTCN) malware classification algorithm. According to the n-gram sequence features of malware opcode operand and application programming interface (API), the algorithm introduces BiTCN to mine bidirectional time series features, enhances the algorithm's time series feature extraction ability, and improves the classification accuracy of the algorithm. The experimental results show that BiTCN can effectively avoid sequence features easily interfered by obfuscation technology, and can effectively detect malware variants.

In this paper, we present a programmatic approach to modeling 3-D geometry for simulation-driven design. With many existing approaches, realistic 3-D modeling takes place in a GUI-driven environment, and only parametric modifications are considered during design optimization. Rapid, automated iteration using conventional CAD systems is impractical for several reasons, and this has led to the proliferation of many specialized geometry modelers. Many of these specialized modelers are rather limited in capability, particularly when it comes to well-understood modeling operations. In contrast, scripting access to desktop-centric, GUI-based CAD systems has several drawbacks, ranging from lack of scalability to the absence of appropriate language constructs for robust programmatic procedural modeling. We present a modular Python API to a CAD kernel, which, rather than simply exposing the kernel's functions, organizes geometry modeling and query functions in a powerful and intuitive manner. This enables the creation of sophisticated geometry from scratch, as well as easy integration with existing CAD models from other sources. The use of a CAD kernel enables lightweight headless operation, fast execution, and sophisticated modeling. The use of a Python API permits the use of a wide range of scientific libraries and facilitates running on scalable computing infrastructure, such as HPC clusters. The Python API is also useful for the mathematical operations that may not be supported by the kernel, as well as for integration with upstream and downstream analyses that are increasingly being written in, or interfaced with, Python. Our implementation also provides surface design velocity computation, and is therefore suitable for use with gradient-based optimizers in conjunction with adjoint-based solvers. During the last two decades, software development has evolved continuously into an engineering discipline with systematic use of methods and tools to model and implement software. For example, object-oriented analysis and design is structuring software models according to real-life objects of the problem domain and their relations. However, the industrial robotics domain is still dominated by old-style, imperative robot programming languages, making software development difficult and expensive. For this reason, we introduce the object-oriented Robotics application programming interface (Robotics API) for developing software for industrial robotic applications. The Robotics API offers an abstract, extensible domain model and provides common functionality, which can be easily used by application developers. The advantages of the Robotics API are illustrated with an application example.

Automatically recommending API-related tutorial fragments or Q& A pairs from Stack Overflow (SO) is very helpful for developers, especially when they need to use unfamiliar APIs to complete programming tasks. However, in practice developers are more likely to express the API-related questions using natural language when they do not know the exact name of an unfamiliar API. In this paper, we propose an approach, called SOTU, to automatically find answers for API-related natural language questions (NLQs) from tutorials and SO. We first identify relevant API-related tutorial fragments and extract API-related Q& A pairs from SO. We then construct an API-Answer corpus by combining these two sources of information. For an API-related NLQ given by the developer, we parse it into several potential APIs and then retrieve potential answers from the API-Answer corpus. Finally, we return a list of potential results ranked by their relevancy. Experiments on API-Answer corpus demonstrate the effectiveness of SOTU.

Advances in medical devices and health care has been phenomenal during the recent years. Although medical device manufacturers have been improving their instruments, network connection of these instruments still rely on proprietary technologies. Even if the interface has been provided by the manufacturer (e.g., RS-232, USB, or Ethernet coupled with a proprietary API), there is no widely-accepted uniform data model to access data of various bedside instruments. There is a need for a common standard which allows for internetworking with the medical devices from different manufacturers. ISO/IEEE 11073 (X73) is a standard attempting to unify the interfaces of all medical devices. X73 defines a client access mechanism that would be implemented into the communication controllers (residing between an instrument and the network) in order to access/network patient data. On the other hand, MediCAN (TM) technology suite has been demonstrated with various medical instruments to achieve interfacing and networking with a similar goal in its open standardization approach. However, it provides a more generic definition for medical data to achieve flexibility for networking and client access mechanisms. The instruments are in turn becoming more sophisticated;however, the operation of an instrument is still expected to be locally done by authorized medical personnel. Unfortunately, each medical instrument has its unique proprietary API (application programming interface - if any) to provide automated and electronic access to monitoring data. Integration of these APIs requires an agreement with the manufacturers towards realization of interoperable health care networking. As long as the interoperability of instruments with a network is not possible, ubiquitous access to patient status is limited only to manual entry based systems.
