Deprecation is a way to inform clients using an application programming interface (API) that the usage of this API is discouraged. Tool support and research for deprecation in local APIs are well established. However, nowadays web APIs are more commonly used, e.g., using the REST architectural style. However, the techniques to detect and handle the usage of deprecated local APIs cannot be directly applied to web APIs. Previous approaches for detecting deprecated web APIs focus on static analysis of client code by detecting calls to web APIs and, subsequently, an investigation of associated API specifications. These approaches currently have two essential limitations: (i) The target of an API call can often not be determined statically. (ii) Deprecation in API specifications is not the only way to signal deprecation for web APIs. We introduce a dynamic approach using tracing to detect calls to web APIs. Subsequently, we check the called APIs for deprecation using an API specification, response meta-data, or a knowledge base. This approach addresses both limitations of the detection with static analysis. We implement the approach and evaluate it on three projects, including client-server calls as well as a microservice benchmark system. The empirical evaluation yields a precision of 1.00 and a recall of 0.95. The false negatives can be attributed to a shortcoming in the automatic instrumentation provided by OpenTelemetry observability framework.

This paper addresses the challenges posed by new 5G-IoT (Internet-of-Things) satellite constellations in telecommunication. The focus is on the development of an efficient and autonomous management system for such constellations. The authors previously presented a management tool and a simulator capable of computing visibility events across multiple locations, including ground stations, user equipment, and target areas. Here, the contact simulator has been upgraded to incorporate key features such as inter-satellite links, Kalman filter for orbit determination, and the implementation of link budgets. These advancements enable improved management and optimization of IoT satellite constellations in the evolving telecommunication landscape. The structure of the tool is restated with minor advancements in automation and efficiency.

M4 Structures Studio (M4SS) is a physics-based structural modeling tool capable of rapidly defining aircraft structural layouts. Additionally, the structural layouts maintain a parametric relationship to a geometry model. Previous work has demonstrated the ability for M4SS to interface with geometric models developed within the Engineering Sketch Pad (ESP) framework. The effort outlined in this paper focuses on furthering that integration by developing an M4SS Analysis interface Module (AIM) for the ESP-based Computational Aircraft Prototype Synthesis (CAPS) library. The AIM will allow M4SS to interface with other tools within a CAPS problem. Additionally, enhancements were made to M4SS to streamline AIM development and improve its utility. The improved M4SS and ESP integration is demonstrated on a scaled flutter model based on the X-56.

Since the 2000s, so-called cloud computing infrastructures have had a profound impact on the capitalist relationship among labor, software, and organizations. This infrastructuring did not only affect the outsourcing of servers and databases but extends to the on-demand delivery of middleware and operating systems through so-called platforms-as-a-service (PaaS). As a result, the capitalist relationship between labor, organization, power, and software has shifted - both regarding the ways in which software development is organized and the ways in which work processes are organized through software. Such a shift is particularly evident in the development and application of so-called customer relationship management (CRM) software, which is used to plan and record sales and work processes. No longer limited to performance measurement and automated management within sales processes, the widely used Salesforce CRM software is leveraged to document and assess the work performance of employees meticulously, among other applications. To demonstrate how PaaS became central organizational media by reformatting labor and power asymmetries, the paper provides a critical analysis of the CRM software of Salesforce and the various actors and interfaces entangled with its PaaS. Thereby, the paper develops a critical media theoretical framework to analyze how the political economy of adapting PaaS is entangled with power dependencies between organizations and the labor of coding and implementing. Drawing on a platform historiographical analysis of Salesforce developer interfaces, the paper shows how organizational hierarchies and asymmetries manifest in the work of implementing specific sets of operational rules in software development (the work of formatting) and the platform capitalist standardization of work coordination in existing organizations (the formatting of work).

The requirement of high power outputs and high efficiencies of combustion engines such as rocket engines, diesel engines, and gas turbines has resulted in the incremented of the system pressure close to the thermodynamically critical point. This increase in pressure often leads to the fluids becoming either transcritical or supercritical in state. This has led to increased interest in both the multi-component phase change phenomena as well as their chemical reactions. In this work, an artificial neural network (ANN) aided VLE model is coupled with a fully compressible computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver to simulate the transcritical processes occurring in high-pressure liquid-fueled propulsion systems. The ANN is trained on Python using the TensorFlow library, optimized for inference (i.e., prediction) using ONNX Run-time (a cross-platform inference and training machine-learning accelerator), and coupled with a C++ based fully compressible CFD solver. This plug-and-play model/methodology can be used to convert any fully compressible and conservative CFD solver to simulate transcritical processes using only open-source packages, without the need of in-house VLE-based CFD development. The solver is then used to study high-pressure shock-droplet interaction in both two- and four-component systems where qualitative and quantitative agreement is shown with results based on both direct evaluation and the state-of-the-art in-situ adaptive tabulation (ISAT) method. The ANN model is faster than the direct evaluation method and the ISAT model by 4 times for the four-component shock-droplet interaction. The ANN model also shows implicit load balancing as long as the MPI decomposition is performed uniformly amongst the number of cores chosen, as the inference time for ANN predict does not change with the change in thermodynamic state, unlike traditional VLE solvers. Achieving a consistent Digital Thread concept demands a common sharing of technical understanding across an organization. These exchanges must confer knowledge and provide context between elements of both the physical and digitized product development lifecycles, while also providing accessibility between different product families for the reapplication/reuse of digital assets in the future. This paper begins by discussing literature guiding the determination of appropriate product life cycle approaches within an Enterprise Architecture, then proposes potential methods to realize such product life cycle approaches, through varied levels of governance for the implementation of standards including ISO 10303 STEP and IEC/ISO 81346 standards.

The development of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) has revolutionized the avionics industry by allowing multiple functions to be present on the same General Processing Module instead of a single function per Line-Replaceable Unit in federated architectures. However, the strict restrictions and expensive verification processes associated with IMA platforms have led to the establishing of standards and guidelines to reduce development and verification costs and time. One such standard is the ARINC 653 Standard, which outlines, amongst others, the necessary data for specifying any ARINC 653 configuration. This paper proposes a model-driven approach for the automated configuration, verification, and validation of ARINC 653-compliant avionics architectures. The approach involves using System Composer and Simulink for modeling and configuring the system, as well as generating ARINC 653-compliant configurations in XML format. The paper exemplifies an expandable pattern for modeling and automatically configuring ARINC 653-compliant systems, highlighting the potential for system verification and validation at both the design and software implementation stages. The results show that Model-Driven Engineering of ARINC 653-compliant avionics architectures is a viable way to isolate parts of the engineering process and increase the automation and validity of the system.

Digital engineering frameworks have become popular in the aerospace industry for addressing problems that require extensive cross-disciplinary collaboration. This work will demonstrate a new framework for automating the exchange of design information between disciplines using a unified set of Digital Twin Modeling Instructions (DTMI). DTMI is a standard syntax for describing systems or components in human-readable language. The instructions include a description of the geometry and material of the structure, as well as environments in which the system will operate. These instructions serve as the authoritative source of truth for the design. A compiler is used to interpret the DTMI and generate a database representation of the design. CAD and subdiscipline models can then be automatically created using model rendering engines, which leverage APIs to communicate with discipline-specific software tools. Digital manufacturing instructions are currently used to automate additive manufacturing with robotics. The DTMI workflow extends this concept to automate the generation of a digital twin for design and analysis. The result is a modular digital engineering framework that can assess the effect of design changes across disciplines with minimal user effort, facilitating rapid model updates and version control. This manuscript will discuss the current state of development and demonstrate the use of a additive manufacturing process model rendering engine.

A supervised deep learning approach is coupled with heuristic convergence criteria to construct a classification model for detecting the completion (convergence) of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Heuristic convergence criteria alone are not always sufficient and more complex decisions are often left to a human analyst. The proposed approach leverages heuristic convergence criteria as well as two deep neural network (DNN) models, one binary and one multi-class, to improve the efficiency and consistency of convergence classification across a wide range of flight regimes. The DNN models presented are each trained on a subset of ascent aerodynamic CFD simulations for NASA's Space Launch System and were produced using NASA's unstructured Navier-Stokes solver FUN3D. Individual solutions are analyzed intermittently and are classified as sufficiently converged, further iterations required, or switch from steady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) to unsteady RANS CFD based on the iterative histories of four aerodynamic coefficients. The implemented classification model is shown to produce solutions that closely correlate to solutions produced by a human analyst. This work lays groundwork for expanding the capabilities of DNNs for automating and improving more of the CFD process.
