Mechanical ventilators are advanced life-supporting machines in this century. The ventilator needs to be safe, flexible, and easy for competent clinicians to use. Since ventilators supply the patient with gas, they need pneumatic components to be present. First technology ventilators were typically powered by pneumatic energy. Gas pressure is used to power ventilators as well as ventilate patients. Nowadays, ventilators are operated electronically with the useful microprocessor tool. This proposal aims to design a simple portable mechanical ventilator that includes measuring some important physiological variables such as respiratory rate, heart rate, and O-2 saturation, which can be utilized in hospital and at home. The proposed system includes arduino, Raspberry pi4, touch screen, and graphical user interface. This study showed a significant individual performance for measuring some important parameters such as flow rate, tidal volume, and minute ventilation. The accuracy of measuring the flow rate was 72%. The Cohen's kappa (CK) was estimated to be 0.61. The accuracy of calculated the tidal volume was estimated at 83% with 0.80 CK. The accuracy of measuring the O-2 saturation was estimated at 99% with 0.99 CK. The advantages of the proposed design are cost-effective, safe, flexible, and easy to use. Also, this system is smart and can control its transactions, so it can be used at home without the need for professional help. The operating parameters can also be set by the user with a simple user interface.

Sensor technology, communication technology, and Internet technology are the world's Internet application hotspots, and the related courses are the core courses of computer and electronics-related majors in colleges and universities. The current experimental platform is mostly based on a single embedded chip, and the chip modes learned in different courses of different majors are different, so it is necessary to purchase experimental equipment of different chips separately, which is inconvenient for teaching and management. The article designs a multi-mode integrated hardware development experimental platform with arduino as the core, analyzes four aspects of the design concept, platform architecture, hardware and software design, and platform verification and application, and integrates three chip modules of arduino, STM32, and 51 Microcontroller into one experimental platform, realizing seamless switching of multiple modes. The experimental data shows that the platform can provide support for embedded hardware development teaching more efficiently. © 2023 IEEE.

In cities, green infrastructure has been used to mitigate flood risk, improve water quality, and harvest precipitation as a water source. Effective maintenance of green infrastructure requires optimal irrigation of plant root systems during the prolonged drying period. Based on the measurement of soil moisture, various drip irrigation systems have been developed. Surface irrigation, however, has the disadvantage of loss of soil moisture through evaporation. In addition, the growth of plants is mainly dependent on subsurface soil moisture, especially within the root zones. Therefore, there is a need to develop an automatic system regulating soil moisture at different depths. In this study, an arduino-based irrigation control system was developed to regulate the volumetric water contents of soil within a certain depth range. A one-dimensional soil column test was conducted to demonstrate its performance. The test results show that the system enabled the regulation of soil water content within the specified range (12-20%) with an error of 2%. The error was further minimized by recalibrating the upper limit of the system. This study provides an improved green infrastructure irrigation system to control the moisture distribution within the soil subsurface.

Efficient software project management relies on sizing and measurement, facilitating control and performance comparison across different projects. COSMIC ISO 19761, presents a method to quantifying software functional size, catering to specific information requirements regardless of the underlying technology. Concurrently, arduino’s accessibility, characterized by its user-friendly interface, open-source nature, and affordability, holds promise for a myriad of applications, including IoT devices and smart cities. The identification of common patterns in arduino code within the COSMIC framework has spurred the development of CosmiCode. This tool, designed to measure software functional size in Cosmic Function Points (CFPs) from source code, yields an accuracy rate of 98.28% in initial tests. Moreover, an extension utilizing machine learning has been integrated into CosmiCode, showcasing promising capabilities in CFP measurement, with an average accuracy of 88.943%. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In addition to monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol levels, lifestyle habits, and medical history, heart rate also serves as an essential measure in assessing overall health. The heart rate is a crucial indicator of health and is closely related to the functioning of the cardiovascular system. The objective of the study is to develop a prototype that can measure and display the heart rate using a pulse sensor and an arduino IDE. The heart rate is calculated by analyzing the pulse sensor's reading. In order to detect irregular heart rates, threshold checks are included. If the heart rate exceeds the predetermined threshold value, the LED and buzzer will be activated. If the heart rate is within the normal range, the system will display "GOOD" while "BAD" will be displayed if the rate is not in the allowable range. In order to alert the user and prompt them to take the appropriate action, the LED and buzzer will sound when the reading falls outside of the specified range. The prototype effectively accomplishes its goal of monitoring, displaying, and warning the user in case of an unexpected and possibly harmful spike in heart rate, particularly when engaging in physical activity or exercise.

Cleaning homes and the surrounding area is increasingly difficult with the current hectic routine. There are hoover cleaners available nowadays that need to be operated by people. Therefore, the implementation of a vacuum cleaner that operates automatically is necessary. Through the implementation of this research work, an effective cleaning technique has been developed. By employing this hoover cleaner, dangerous areas can be cleaned, lowering threats to people. Here, the motors, sensors, and other parts of the hoover were controlled by an arduino board that was configured to do so. By programming the hoover cleaner to clean areas, adjusting the suction power, and even navigatingaround obstacles, the cleaning process may be highly customized and controlled in this way. A pipe is hooked to thebottle's mouth on the hoover cleaner, which is built with a CPU fan. Batteries power the entire apparatus. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper addresses a critical gap in existing smart irrigation systems, which primarily focus on moisture content without considering the essential factor of NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) levels in the soil. This work aims to revolutionize smart irrigation by upgrading it to incorporate NPK and water level sensing technologies. State actors have converted small Unmanned Air-craft Systems (sUAS) into weapons capable of carrying explosive payloads, artillery, support for other ground and air forces, logistics, and close battlespace awareness. These devices have become instruments of power, even thwarting Russian advancement into Ukrainian territories. In response to this new strike vector, this paper explores the arduino ecosystem as a novel approach to creating a distributed sensor network capable of detecting sUAS. We propose an arduino-based sensor node design that executes a Tiny ML model to detect sUAS through visual, audio, and radar modalities. © 2023 IEEE.

This study aims to improve the safety and protection ability of electric bicycle riders, and designs and implements an intelligent anti-collision algorithm based on arduino development board and sensor data. Through the real-time monitoring and analysis of the data of acceleration sensor and distance sensor, the algorithm can accurately identify collision events and trigger alarm signals in time, providing effective safety protection for cyclists. The experimental results show that the algorithm has high detection accuracy and sensitivity, and can effectively predict the distance change between the rider and the front obstacle, and avoid the collision accident when the safety distance threshold is set reasonably. In addition, the design scheme based on open source hardware platform arduino and common sensors is practical and feasible, which provides an important reference for the popularization and application of intelligent anti-collision technology. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing number of fire incidents and seismic activities in the Philippines necessitates implementing effective early warning systems for timely disaster mitigation. Additionally, the Philippines is susceptible to earthquakes due to its geographic location along the Pacific Ring of Fire. In response to this need, we developed an arduino-based Fire and Tremor Alarm System to provide real-time detection and alerts for residential safety. The proposed device integrated sensors to detect indoor fires and measure earthquake tremor intensity. We designed and constructed the multipurpose device which was calibrated and tested by PHIVOLCS and BFP. The device was evaluated for fire and tremor detection accuracy. The system had potential benefits including improved disaster preparedness for households and enhanced monitoring capabilities for government agencies. The testing was conducted in a controlled environment, and the performance of the device was compared to commercially available fire detectors and PHIVOLCS' earthquake simulator. The test results showed fire detection has a 0% false positive from 147 negative samples and 0.62% false negative from 341 positive samples. The device also showed an average of 1.28% difference compared to PHIVOLCS' simulator. The resulting percentage differences across seismic magnitudes of 4.1 to 7.5 were 1.14, 1.27, and 1.2% for 0, 45°, and 90° orientation. Lastly, the system detected fire and tremor simultaneously nine times in 10 trials and only detected the tremor on the final trial. The device is a more accessible and reliable alarm system for residential use, aiding disaster response and evacuation efforts across the nation. © 2023 IEEE.
