Many image compression techniques have been developed for remote sensing imagery over the last thirty years. What are considered as standard techniques such as the use of principal component analysis, discrete cosine transform, predictive coding, etc. have shown their limitations. Wavelet transform techniques have been increasingly used in recent years. In this paper a new and efficient technique is presented that provides a nearly lossless compression of the multichannel remote sensing imagery by combining the use of wavelet decomposition, non-uniform quantization, arithmetic coding, and geometric vector quantizer (GVQ) to achieve the compression task with very minimal loss. In the paper an efficient and time-effective lossless coding technique is presented. The method is context-based, three principal contexts are defined, for neighborhoods with special properties three auxiliary contexts are used. A simple predictor adaptation technique, being extension of ALCM algorithm, is implemented, hence, it is proposed to denote the new method as ALCM(+). A sophisticated formula for correcting the cumulated predictor error combining 8 bias estimators is calculated. Performance of the new algorithm has been tested on the set of 9 widely used benchmark images. It has been shown that indeed, the new technique has been time-effective while it has outperformed the well known methods having reasonable time complexity, like CALIC or JPEG-LS, and has been inferior only to those that are extremely computationally complex.

Aiming to improve the efficiency of image compression on the premise of controlling the compression time, an image compression oriented algorithm is proposed based on Dual Tree-Complex Wavelet and arithmetic coding algorithm. Methods : decompose the read-in image by Dt-cwt, then using Wellner (an adaptive binarization method) to calculate the image's threshold. Scan the image by EZW algorithm,and compared the threshold with wavelet coefficients,then output the important coefficients and compress these data by arithmetic coding. Finally, the compressed image was output by encoding inverse transform. Results :Four-level decomposition of Dual Tree-Complex Wavelet and seven-times scanning of the image have better compression result and shorter running time. Conclusion :The hardware configuration of this method is simple, and this algorithm can compress the image with high quality in a short time.

The increasing demand for video media over limited bandwidth is currently an issue for both industry and academia. In the face of that challenge, AV1 is a recent video codec designed to compress videos efficiently. As the first step of AV1 playback, the codec utilizes a multi-alphabet arithmetic decoder as the entropy decoder kernel, with up to sixteen symbols. Hence, to accomplish a compromise trade-off between area, power, and real-time performance, we proposed MultiAD, an AV1 arithmetic decoder architecture. The presented design can decode a symbol of an alphabet with up to four elements in a single cycle, requiring more cycles for larger alphabets. When compared to the baseline prior-art architecture, MultiAD saves up to 58.3% in area and consumes 62.1% less power, while still accomplishing the 8K real-time video processing constraints.

Efficient multimedia encryption algorithms are fundamental to multimedia data security because of the massive data size and the need of real-time processing. In this research, we present an efficient encryption scheme, called the RCI-QM coder, which achieves the objective of encryption with a regular QM coder by applying different coding conventions to encode individual symbols according to a statistically random sequence. One main advantage of our scheme is the negligible computation cost associated with encryption. We also demonstrate with cryptanalysis that the security level of our scheme is high enough to thwart most common attacks. The proposed RCI-QM coder is easy to implement in both software and hardware, while providing backward compatibility to the standard QM coder.

We address the problem of constructing an adaptive arithmetic code in the case where the source alphabet is large and there are lots of different symbols with equal counts of occurrence. For an alphabet of N symbols and r distinct symbol weights we describe a code for which the number of operations needed for encoding and decoding is equal to c log r+c(1) instead of c log N+c(2) as in previous arithmetic codes, c, c(1), c(2) are constants. When r is small relative to N-which is the case for most practical coding problems on large alphabets-the encoding and decoding speed of the suggested code will be substantially greater than with known methods.

This paper describes the design and implementation of context based adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) and comparative analysis of grey scale image with discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and without DWT for three dimensional (3-D) medical image compression systems. The proposed system architectures were synthesis in MATLAB. An in-depth performance analysis for simulation is presented. Overall, CT and MRI modalities with DWT outperform in term of compression ratio, PSNR and latency compare with images for CT and MRI without DWT process.
