Wideband stripline fed tapered slot antenna with integral coupler for wide scan angle active phased array

A stripline fed tapered slot antenna (STSA) with integral coupler operating as an active array element over 1.5 octave bandwidth is presented. The proposed STSA with integral coupler features wideband transition which allows a direct 50 stripline feed and enables the coupler to be integrated along with the feed. The coupler helps in taking a sample of signal for online performance monitoring and active phased array calibration. The measured results of antenna element have exhibited good radiation pattern performance with low cross-polarisation in principal plane and low beam squint. Using this, a 16-element H-plane linear phased array antenna designed for the frequency range of 6-18GHz and azimuth scan coverage of 60 degrees is also presented. The active reflection coefficient of the array is calculated from measured mutual coupling coefficients and the array pattern over different scan angles is demonstrated. The grating lobe free scan coverage of 60 degrees is obtained. The antenna array finds application in airborne systems.

Dimension-Reduced Optimization for Uniform Near-Field Synthesis of Irregular arrays

A novel optimization method of a significantly reduced optimizing dimension is presented to quickly synthesize the uniform near fields of irregular arrays. In this method, the element excitations of the array are no longer executed as the direct optimization parameters. Instead, we build a new search space made of the smooth reference masks (SRMs) and perform the optimization directly based on the parameters of the SRMs rather than the element excitations. To obtain the desired uniform near fields, only two critical parameters of the SRMs need to be optimized. Comparing the direct element-excitation optimizations, the proposed method significantly reduces the optimizing dimension and makes the synthesis much more efficient and faster. Several numerical examples and their comparisons with the well-developed convex optimization algorithm were presented. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and the significant reduction of time consumption of the proposed method.

This paper proposes the use of a Gaussian window on the array factor as an interference mitigation method, aiming to avoid the computational complexity of the MVDR algorithm at the cost of a slight performance reduction. We show that by optimizing the parameters of the Gaussian window, it is possible to effectively mitigate the interfering signal if it is received within a certain angular range from the desired signal, while being still effective beyond that range. Finally, we show that the effectiveness of this approach is maintained across the full frequency reception range of the Ka-band, and confirm its validity using 8 x 8 and 16 x 16 array sizes.

A method to compute patterns of arbitrary planar antenna arrays based on DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) is proposed. By complex Fourier series expansion, irregular arrays are approximated to regular arrays. And array patterns are obtained by applying DFT. Examples are provided to illustrate the proposed method. A comparison between the proposed method and the series summation method is performed. The coincident results in patterns show the preciseness of the proposed method, while the computing time ratios show the efficiency of the proposed method.

The wideband technique to compensate the mutual coupling in a small array is developed and experimentally verified. According to this novel compensative method, a collinear and a parallel dipole array of 16 elements with -50dB sidelobe level are computed. For a collinear dipole array, numerical results indicate that the sidelobe level is greater than -46.5dB within 15% bandwidth and the optimal sidelobe is -48.5dB, For a parallel dipole array the sidelobe level is from 45.4dB to -47.8dB within 15% bandwidth. This paper also discusses error tolerance across a constrained-fed array antenna. A method, in which the different exciting currents have different error tolerance, is adopted and this allows a better error tolerance for a practical ultra-low sidelobe array antenna. Using the above method, the L-band constrained-fed collinear dipole array and parallel dipole array of 16-elements are fabricated and tested. The sidelobe level is maintained below -40dB within 13% and 12% bandwith respectively.

An array factor models the ideal response of an antenna array to the far field source. In order to coherently add a far-field signal array factor model must be known. However, the model does not include errors that are encountered in reality. This discrepancy leads to significant loss of coherent gain of the array. This paper describes an array calibration method we used for compensating error in our 4-antenna FM linear array. We show the improvement we got using the error compensation method in direction finding as well as array pattern from real signals.

In this paper, we explore the properties of various mathematical structures for use in radar applications, namely Orthogonal Sudoku arrays and Costas Cubes. The overarching theme is for the paper to serve as a foray into further explorations of these structures in more radar specific areas (e.g. noise radar). We, therefore, provide a brief description of each of these structures using mathematical theory before pivoting into computational results and a Radar specific application in antenna array patterns. Afterwards, the key points of this exploration and further application of these structures in radar is then discussed.

Directivities of linear and plane homogeneous antenna arrays consisting of different radiators were simulated in the MathCad environment when distance between the radiators and numbers of radiators were varied in the wide limits. Antenna arrays with linear, rectangular and square aperture were considered. The highest attainable directivity of the antenna array with given numbers of radiators was determined. It was shown that the antenna arrays distort shapes and spectra of transmitted and received signals when the signal wavelengths are shorter than the distance between the radiators.

The goal of this analysis is to compute cancer organ tissue depth numerical values. One big goal is to strengthen and use broadband antennas to detect organ cancer. A 2x2 grid antenna in the form of a WU was constructed using the mathematical modeling of the grid using geographic coordinates of: simulated by ADS;optimized by Moments of Methods (MoM), designed as a prototype using MMIC (Microwave Monolithically Integrated Circuits);analyzed with Agilent N99917A, a described microwave analyzer. It is compactly formed 18.64x17.92x1 mm3. The 2x2 model comprises four diameter WU radiation slots with a dielectric thickness (1 mm) from FR4 of 1 mm and a conductive soil. The frequency of operation is 5.26 GHz, which includes the broadband between 4.5 GHz and 5.5.89 GHz. It also features a broadband antenna with four slots and a low-profile structure. The broadband antennas were used to detect breast cancer, which is a secondary distribution of study. This broadband antenna is available on existing Debye test beds, with a dielectric model identical to that of the human breast. These largescale antennas have impressed the coupling materials that act as a link. The results were spread better than the air media. These materials are connected by the higher and lower the dielectric strengths. That was the average number of responses distributed. The velocity of propagation was observed in the cancerous organ between the cancerous organ and the transceiver, dielectric strength and time to travel by scattered responses. Those reactions were thus received from the cancer organ in the test bed. Therefore it expands the numerical depth values and the coverage of cancerous organ validated by existing Debye test beds.
