Blue-shift of surface plasmon resonance in a metal nanoslit array structure

The adsorption of a self-assembled monolayer of molecules on a metal surface commonly causes a red-shift in its surface plasmon resonance. We report that the anomalous dispersion of surface plasmons in a Au nanoslit array structure can cause a blue-shift of optical transmission upon adsorption of a non-absorbing self-assembled monolayer of molecules. We develop a simple model that explains the blue-shift observed in the transmission spectra with monolayer adsorption in terms of the interplay of anomalous dispersion and the cavity resonance of surface plasmons in the nanoslit array. Optimum design of an array structure for the grain loss sensor to upgrade its resolution for harvesting rice in a combine harvester

Grain loss is an inevitable part of the working process of a combine harvester and is influenced by a wide range of parameters. Since the 1960s researchers have engaged in developing grain loss auto-detection technology. Monitoring of grain loss has been achieved by quantifying grain impacts during occurring over a fixed interval based on the piezoelectric effect. However, saturation phenomena, originating from impact-based measurement principle, occur with existing grain loss sensors when they deal with high impacts rates. There is a need to optimise structure of the grain loss sensors to improve their resolution to meet requirements in rice harvesting. To establish a proper position for the developed sensor, an experiment was carried out on a test-bench in the laboratory using rice fed at different rates. The geometry of the instrumented plate had a significant influence on the performance of the sensor. To analyse the effect of the structure of the plate on detecting performance, a modal analysis and grain collision tests were carried out using different structural forms of instrumented plate. An array structure for the grain loss sensor was proposed which should enhance its reliability by providing further complementary data from the monitoring array. Calibration experiment results showed that the instrumented plate with a length of 150 mm, width of 40 mm, and a thickness of 1.0 mm was the optimum size and could monitor and discriminate rice grains effectively. Hamming correlation properties of the array structure of Sidelnikov sequences

In this paper, we investigate the Hamming correlation properties of column sequences from the (q - 1) x q(d)-1/q-1 array structure of M-ary Sidelnikov sequences of period q(d) - 1 for M vertical bar q - 1 and d >= 2. We prove that the proposed set Gamma (d) of some column sequences has the maximum non-trivial Hamming correlation upper bounded by the minimum of q-1/Md - 1 and M-1/M[(2d - 1)root q + 1] + q-1/M. When M = q - 1, we show that Gamma (d) is optimal with respect to the Singleton bound. The set Gamma (d) can be extended to a much larger set Delta(d) by involving all the constant additions of the members of Gamma (d), which is also optimal with respect to the Singleton bound when M = q - 1.

Straight multimode interference phased array structure using periodic segmented waveguide phase array

A new design of a multimode interference (MMI) phased array structure is proposed. This design is based on replacing the arrayed delay arms between the first MMI power splitter and the second MMI combiner by periodic segmented waveguides. This allows a straight strucuture without curved waveguides and thus reduces greatly the size of the structure. A design example of an 8 channel multiplexer is presented showing a size reduction by a factor of 23 when compared with conventional design, while keeping nearly the same performance. A novel paper-based biofuel cell with a series/parallel array structure has been fabricated, in which the cell voltage and output power can easily be adjusted as required by printing. The output of the fabricated 4-series/4-parallel biofuel cell reached 0.97 +/- 0.02 mW at 1.4V, which is the highest output power reported to date for a paper-based biofuel cell. This work contributes to the development of flexible, wearable energy storage device.

Technology scaling facilitates to meet ever increasing demands for a portable and battery operated systems, at the same time causes diminution of length of the channel, gate oxide layer and threshold voltage which increases the leakage or static power at a standby mode. Static or leakage power is the dominating factor of total power dissipation in deep nanometer technologies below 90 nm. In memory design, parameters such as power, delay and stability of the memory are considered for which affects the performance of the memory. Static random access memory (SRAM) is a type of RAM, which does not need to be refreshed periodically and data is not written permanently in it. This manuscript dedicates in designing 256 x 4 memory array structure using imminent SRAM cell and sense amplifier for usage as cache memories in most modern computer systems. The other sustaining devices in executing this array structure are row decoder, column decoder and control unit. Design metrics such as static power, dynamic power, delay, power delay product, energy, energy delay product, rise time, fall time and slew rate are taken into account. All the circuits were designed using SYNOPSYS EDA tool and simulated in 30 nm technology. Simulation results shows that array structure designed using proposed SRAM cell and sense amplifier provides better performance than existing array structure.

To effectively solve the electromagnetic scattering problem of large-scale finite array structure, a non-overlapping domain decomposition method(DDM), the dual-primal finite element tearing and interconnecting method(FETI-DP), is applied to the hybrid finite element-boundary integral-multilevel fast multipole algorithm method(FE-BI-MLFMA). The formula of near scattering field is deduced by equivalent electric and magnetic current. Then, the Generalized Radar Cross Section (GRCS) in near scattering region is calculated by the near scattering field. The numerical performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by calculating a patch antenna array's scattering.

A circuit architecture and measurement technique are proposed to reduce the leakage current that passes through peripheral circuits when examining arrays of resistive elements. We reveal, with the aid of circuit simulations, that high resolution measurements of resistive elements can be realized with the stacked column-selection array and the addition of a leakage-control terminal.

A highly land-area-efficient solar array structure named "F Solar Package Type-M" was developed and evaluated based on the actual data in "F Nagara Solar Power Plant". This package shows better power generation performance and return on investment than a conventional system configuration. A PV power plant using this package becomes more cost-effective and is expected to spread widely because the price of PV modules decreases dramatically in recent years.

In this paper, we investigate the characteristics of npn device as a candidate for RRAM selector. npn selector shows high current density and selectivity which are key metrics for the bidirectional select device. We confirm that length and doping concentration of base and emitter region can be varied to optimize the characteristic of the selector. In addition, we observe AC characteristic with 10 ns pulse width and interval. We confirm that I-V curve is well fitted with a combination of exponential and quadratic terms.
