Dynamic fine-grained access control for smart contracts based on improved attribute-based signature

Access control for smart contracts is the primary security mechanism for protecting users' digital assets. However, existing solutions have defects in control granularity and flexibility, and a large number of resource-constrained blockchain nodes impose stringent and lightweight requirements on access control mechanisms. Therefore, achieving secure, efficient, and flexible access control for smart contracts has become a key issue that blockchain applications need to address. based on the attribute-based access control model, this paper utilizes attribute-based signature (ABS) to achieve flexible and efficient access control for smart contracts. First, to solve the problem that existing ABS schemes are not suitable for resource-constrained blockchain nodes because they are mainly based on expensive bilinear pairing, a lightweight no-pairing attribute-based signature scheme called LABS is designed to make the signature size independent of the user's attribute set and decouple the signature from the verification policy. Then, based on the LABS scheme, a smart contract-oriented access control mechanism (DSCABS) is proposed to ensure that only legitimate users whose attributes satisfy the access policy can be authorized to invoke smart contracts. Also, DSCABS supports dynamic updates of user rights and contract access policies without modifying or redeploying the smart contract. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation experiments.

attribute-based signature (ABS) is an attractive variation of digital signature that enables signers to sign messages with fine-grained signature predicates. In ABS, a signer is able to perform signing operations without revealing personal attributes, and verifiers can only confirm that the signature was created by someone with attributes satisfying a specific signature predicate. However, traditional ABS suffers from key exposure, and the compromise of a signer's signature key results in invalidating all signatures from him/her. To address this problem, forward-secure ABS (FS-ABS) was introduced. Nevertheless, existing FS-ABS schemes have the shortcomings of low policy expressiveness and high computation costs, and thus are not suitable to be employed on mobile devices with limited resources. In this paper, we propose a user-friendly and expressive FS-ABS (UEFS-ABS) scheme that is proven secure in the standard model. The proposed scheme not only supports expressive signature predicates based on the linear secret sharing scheme, but also provides server-aided signature and outsourced verification functions, significantly reducing the workload of user terminals at both signature generation and verification stages. The experiments indicate that compared with the up-to-date FS-ABS scheme, our scheme reduces the computation costs for signature generation (on signers' devices) and verification (on verifiers' devices) by about 85% and 68%, respectively. This makes our scheme more suitable for user terminals in mobile computing scenarios.

Internet of Vehicles (IoV) realizes information interaction between vehicles and all networked entities, and the heterogeneous, openness, and diversity make it suffer from various security challenges such as authentication and access control problems. attribute-based signature (ABS) is a promising cryptographic tool for addressing the above concerns, however, some existing ABS schemes take heavy computation overheads for signature verification. Though some server-aided ABS schemes are proposed to enhance performance, those schemes suffer from devastating collusion attacks. In addition, current signature-policy ABS schemes only support the single threshold access policy, which fails to meet various access control requirements of IoV. To address the above problems, we propose an efficient server-aided ABS with collusion resistance (SAABS-CR) for IoV. It utilizes server-aided computation technology to mitigate the computation burden of verifiers, while resisting perfectly the collusion attacks that include between signers and between the signer and the aided server. Moreover, SAABS-CR supports flexible expressions of access policy under the signature-policy framework by using the linear secret-sharing scheme (LSSS), and it is proved to be secure in the security model of strong unforgeability against chosen-message attacks (SU-CMA). Theoretical analyses and experimental evaluations show that SAABS-CR improves efficiency by reducing the time cost of signature generation at least 34.8% and user verification at least 15%.

Smart grid is gaining more and more attention as one of the typical applications of Internet of Things. However, in a distributed environment, how to guarantee the privacy of users in electricity trading while ensuring the efficiency of the transactions is one of the urgent issues to be solved. In this article, we propose a distributed attribute-based signature (DABS) scheme for distributed electricity trading, which can support users' free choice of trade objects without revealing their real identities. We construct a signature generation and verification method by taking advantage of the open and hard-to-tamper properties of blockchain to achieve signature verifiability independent of dynamic changes in attributes. To improve the update efficiency, we propose an improved scheme that enables the update complexity to be reduced from O(n) to O(log n), where n is the number of users. Finally, performance analysis and simulation experiments demonstrate the security and practicality of the DABS.

attribute-based signature (ABS) is a versatile and useful cryptogrammic technology. In an ABS scheme, every signer is distributed a signing secret key in term of her/his attributes, and endorses a message in relation to some signing policy fulfilled by the signer's attributes. The verifier checks that the signature is indeed endorsed by the signer whose attributes match with the signing policy. However, existing ABS schemes suffer from the issue of abusing signature and key exposure. To address the above issues, we provide a traceable and forward-secure attribute-based signature (TFS-ABS) scheme with constant-size supporting flexible threshold predicates. Furthermore, we prove that the presented TFS-ABS scheme is existential unforgeability against selective predicate attack under the standard model. We reduce the security for the provided scheme to q-Diffie-Hellman exponentiation assumption. The designed scheme can be used to alleviate the damage induced by key exposure and traces the real identity of signer by attribute authority (AA) when the signer occurs abusing behavior. Furthermore, the signature size in presented scheme keeps constant and is independent of the number of attributes. Experimental evaluations exhibit that the presented TFS-ABS scheme is efficient in term of the communication and computation overhead.

attribute-based signatures (ABS) is a powerful cryptographic solution that provides fine-grained access control while improving flexibility and usability. This innovative approach allows generating and verifying digital signatures without revealing private information about the signer, thus maintaining user anonymity. Traditional ABS schemes usually rely on simple threshold structures, which make it difficult to support complex access control policies, have limited flexibility, and the computational complexity of generating and verifying signatures can be high, especially when dealing with a large number of user attributes. We propose a novel ABS scheme that incorporates more flexible access control mechanisms to overcome these limitations. Our approach utilizes secret sharing techniques to construct an access tree where user attributes are efficiently mapped to the leaves of the tree. This design supports a variety of logical operations, including "AND", "OR", and "threshold" gate structures, which enable sophisticated access policies. In addition, our scheme builds on the small integer solution (SIS) problem to ensure robust anonymity and adaptive unforgeability of selected information. This is achieved by selecting access tree structures and attribute sets under the Randomized Oracle Model (ROM) that conform to the defined access structure. The proposed ABS scheme not only enhances the security and privacy of digital signatures, but also improves the efficiency, which is a valuable contribution to the field of cryptographic access control.

Secure server-aided attribute-based signature with perfect anonymity for cloud-assisted systems

attribute-based signature (ABS) is an attractive cryptographic primitive, but it is unsuitable for resource constrained scenarios because of its high computational cost. Server-Aided attribute-based signature (SAABS) was introduced to overcome this shortcoming by using cloud computing technology. In this paper, we perform cryptanalysis on Xiong et al. (2020) and Cui et al. (2018). We show that Xiong et al.'s scheme is incorrect and forgeable. Neither of these two schemes achieves anonymity. In both schemes, an adversary can collude with the server to replace the attribute set and make the verifier accept an invalid signature. Our attacks imply that the previous definitions of unforgeability and anonymity are not conforming to the actual cloud-assisted scenarios. Then, we present more accurate security models for SAABS. We define a stronger definition for unforgeability, a stronger notion called perfect anonymity, and a new notion called server-aided verification security. Finally, we propose a new idea to prevent the server from attacking anonymity and an improved scheme to fix our attacks. Our scheme achieves all the security properties, supports expressive access structure, reduces the computational overhead to a low level, and is especially suitable for cloud-assisted systems.

Web 3.0 is a grand design with intricate data interchange, implying the requirement of versatile network protocol to ensure its security. attribute-based signature (ABS) allows a user, who is featured with a set of attributes, to sign messages under a predicate. The validity of the ABS signature demonstrates that this signature is generated by the user whose attributes satisfy the corresponding predicate, and thus flexibly achieves anonymous authentication. Similar to other digital signatures, the security of ABS is broken incase the private key of the user is leaked out. To address the threat brought by the key leakage, this paper proposes a puncturable attribute-based signature scheme that allows the private key generator to revoke the signing right associated with specific tags. This paper firstly elaborates the construction of the proposed ABS scheme with puncturable property, and then proves its security theoretically by reducing the involved security to the computational Diffie-Hellman assumption. This paper then experimentally shows that the suggested puncturable ABS scheme owns amore efficient storage cost and superior performance.

A revocable and comparable attribute-based signature scheme from lattices for IoMT

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) refers to the utilization of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the healthcare industry. Access control is particularly important for IoMT due to the sensitive nature of patient data, such as electronic health records (EHR). Although fine-grained access control can be achieved by attribute-based signature (ABS), existing ABS schemes lacks the ability to provide range comparison access policy in which patients can check whether the attribute value is within a certain range. In addition, the dynamic change of doctors' permissions and the development of quantum technology also require that ABS can provide user revocation and resist quantum attacks. In order to solve these problems and make ABS schemes for IoMT more useful and more secure, we come up with a novel revocable and comparable ABS (RC-ABS) from lattices for IoMT, enabling fine-grained access control, attribute range comparison, and user revocation. First of all, we provide a proof of the unforgeability of our scheme in the standard model (SM) under the selective user revocation list semi-adaptive attribute adaptive message attack, which can resist attacks by semi-honest adversaries and prevent adversaries from attacking the weaknesses of hash functions in IoMT. Furthermore, our ABS scheme leverages the small integer solution problem (SIS) to effectively defends against quantum algorithm attacks. Finally, detailed performance analysis demonstrates that our solution not only possesses enhanced security features and functionalities, such as revocability, comparability, and resistance against quantum attacks, but also maintains a constant computation cost of user revocation, making it more efficient compared to other revocation schemes.
