This paper is based on the general principle of beamformingalgorithm of array signal processing. It gives a kind of high precision adaptive time-domain beamformingalgorithm, uses ultra-wide band (UWB) microwave signal as an emission source applied to the human body in early breast cancer detection. In this paper, we build a two-dimensional, semicircle breast tissue model, use numerical simulation with finite difference time-domain (FDTD) method for detection. The result shows the superiority of beamformingalgorithm compared with that of confocal imaging algorithms and beam forming algorithms, especially to the Capon beamformingalgorithm.

This paper reports investigation of modified two-dimensional(2-D) to three-dimensional(3-D) beam forming algorithm for breast cancer detection. A Graphical User Interface(GUI) based on Matrix Laboratory(MATLAB) was developed to integrate measurement task and image reconstruction, thus simplify the process. A prototype of a cylindrical radome was designed and printed using 3-D printing technology. The radome serves the purpose of holding the antenna and breast tissue-mimicking medium in position. Tumour target with few breast mimicking medium were placed in a Bi-conical Ultra-Wide Band(UWB) cylindrical antenna array arrangement. In this project, the performances of various type of medium with different algorithm were analysed. As results with breast phantom, EDAS produces 36%, 28% and 27% improvements in signal to clutter ratio as compared to DAS, DMAS and CF DAS, respectively.

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is an emerging research area with multiple applications. Lamb waves are ultrasonic elastic waves that travel inside and along thin plates and is frequently used as diagnostic tools to detect damage in plate-like structures. In this paper, a transient dynamic finite element simulation of Lamb wave with piezoelectric transducers for damage detection in a composite plate is carried out. The embedded cross-shaped piezoelectric active sensor arrays were used to generate and receive guided Lamb waves propagating in the plate structure. A full-scale FEM model for the laminate was created using three-dimensional eight-node layered structural solid element and piezoelectric active sensors were created using coupled field elements on the commercial finite element code ANSYS platform. The beamforming technique of Lamb waves is used to locate damage in the plate. The results of the numerical simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.
