This letter introduces a new approach to the construction of a set of binary arrays having a zero-correlation zone (ZCZ). The proposed array set has a cross-shaped ZCZ and, thus, is 1.5 times wider than that of existing ZCZ arrays. The proposed array set can be constructed from an arbitrary Hadamard matrix. The proposed array can be used in applications such as arrays of sound sources, position detection arrays, phased-array antennas, time-frequency coding, and spatial correlation.

Antenna polarization states always vary with scan direction which can be named as Spatial Polarization Characteristic (SPC) of antenna. We present a novel antenna module named orthogonal polarization binary array antenna (OPBAA). The advantage of the design is its simple design and prominent SPC. Which can be used for polarimetric application. The theoretical model is derived and spatial polarization characteristic is especially analyzed. Measurement results of an OPBAA formed by two horns are analyzed to verify the conclusions. The OPBAA can reduce the complexity of the communication system which has good application prospect in the future.

Ellipsoidal Luneburg Lens binary array for Wide-Angle Scanning

An ellipsoidal Luneburg lens (LBL) binary array is proposed and implemented for wide-angle scanning. In order to solve the occlusion problem between the lens elements in the array, the spherical LBL is transformed into the ellipsoidal LBL based on the transformation optics. The permittivity distribution of the LBL is revised to increase the lens' aperture efficiency when the lens is not particularly large compared with the feed. Further, by introducing the local-beam shifting method, the number of feeds under each lens and the mutual coupling between the feeds can be reduced with the scanning characteristics remained. To validate the proposed design, a 1 x 2 ellipsoidal LBL array has been designed, fabricated, and tested. Each ellipsoidal LBL with 110 mm longaxis radius and 88 mm short-axis radius is fabricated by means of 3-D printing technology. Patch antennas operating at 2.25 GHz are employed as feeds. The measured results show that the proposed ellipsoidal LBL binary array can realize the maximum gain of 15.5 dB at zenith direction and 13.3 dB at 62 degrees. The maximum scanning angle of +/- 68 degrees can be achieved with a 3 dB gain reduction and -8 dB sidelobe.

Wide-Angle Scanning array Based on Reconfigurable Element Integrated of binary array

A wide-angle scanning array based on a new pattern-reconfigurable element (PRE) is presented. The PRE is formed by docking two modified coupling planar inverted F-shaped antennas, one as the main element and the other as a parasitic element. Amplitude and phase perturbations are attached to the binary array, forming a tilt pattern and a wide operating band. A 1 x 8 antenna array based on the PREis designed. The active patterns tilt gradually with the increase of frequency, suppressing the grating lobes appearing at low elevations and realizing wide-angle scanning under a large spacing. The special bias circuitry reduces the impact of additional wires on the array performance. The antenna array prototype was manufactured and measured to verify the design. The dimension is 3.93 lambda(0) x 0.61 lambda(0) x 0.08 lambda(0) (lambda(0) is the free-space wavelength at 4.1 GHz). The main lobe realized +/- 70 degrees scanning range at 3.75-4.5 GHz (18.3%) with a gain fluctuation within 3.2 dB. The maximum sidelobe levels remain below -7.2 dB during scanning. The cross-polarization levels are kept below -45 dB. The measurement is consistent with the simulated results.

A Low-Profile binary array Antenna for Integrated Beam Control and RCS Reduction

Integrated beam control and RCS reduction are becoming increasingly important for modern radar and stealth applications. This work presents a binary array antenna for simultaneously and digitally realizing beam control and RCS reduction. Specifically, the element antenna is a patch antenna with U-shaped slot. By reversing the patch, the radiation phase of copolarized wave can be modulated in binary form. The reflection phase of cross-polarized wave is binarily modulated by loading or unloading a grounded metal post to the element antenna in cross-polarization direction. By designing binary codes of the array antenna in both copolarization and cross-polarization directions, beam control and RCS reduction can be realized independently. A binary array antenna with 108 (8 x 16) element antenna is designed and fabricated. Transmission-line unequal-power divider is used to feed the array antenna. Both simulations and measurements have verified the presented digital mechanism for integrating beam control and RCS reduction.

Detection of cardiac arrhythmic beats by logical classifier using binary coding

Cardiac arrhythmia is a rhythmic disorder in heart generated from problems in impulse formation or conduction. Automatic detection of arrhythmia at the time of its occurrence is very essential for continuous cardiac monitoring. As different kinds of arrhythmias produce different morphology of beats, it is difficult to suggest one typical algorithm to classify all kind of arrhythmic beats. In this work, a binary logical classifier is proposed to identify beats such as premature ventricular contraction, bundle branch block, paced and normal. In most of the arrhythmic beats the wave texture is modified along with a change in temporal information. The proposed logical classification requires binary coding of beats based on temporal and morphological features to form a binary array representing the status or signature of the beat. Next the classification is made by the status of the bits depending upon its position in the binary array. This approach of logical classification reduces the complexity of detection because of its binary nature resulting in fast and ready reference of arrhythmic disorder for standalone systems. Performance evaluation results indicate that the method has good accuracy, sensitivity and positive predictivity for all kind of test beats. Moreover, this technique is easily hardware implementable because of its binary nature.

Processing an array of data on radiation testing of content of the main material and longitudinal distribution in rod-type specimens

Additional processing of the data array obtained from scanning a specimen by a radiation-data converter is proposed. This approach makes it possible to improve the accuracy with which dimensions and locations of characteristic zones are determined in rod-type specimens. The procedure involves binary coding of the moving-average function and restoring the array's envelope by comparing a fixed-length sample, which moves along the binary array, to standard samples during preliminary conversion of samples into codes-products.

A Novel Compact High-Gain Printed Quasi-Yagi Antenna and its Harmonic-Suppression array

In this paper, a novel compact printed quasi-Yagi antenna with a high gain of 8.39 dB is presented, and its binary antenna array with harmonic suppression is explored. The proposed antenna fed by a 100 Ohm coplanar stripline (CPS) achieves a 14.32 % relative bandwidth for a -10 dB reflection coefficient. The stepped impedance resonator (SIR) structure is adopted to suppress the harmonic radiations in the binary array, which is fed by a 50 Ohm coplanar waveguide (CPW). Due to its single-sided structure, this high gain antenna element and the binary array have many advantages, such as easy fabrication, compactness, low profile, and low cost. The antenna and array can be widely applied in wireless communication systems, especially in wireless power transmission (WPT) system.

We report an experimental study of discrete gap solitons in binary arrays of optical waveguides. We observe self-focusing indicating soliton generation when the inclination angle of an input beam is slightly above the Bragg angle and show that the propagation direction of the emerging gap soliton is influenced by the effect of interband momentum exchange.
