In this article, a distributed fault estimator is designed for nonlinear systems over sensor networks subject to randomly switching topologies under binary encoding scheme. binary encoding scheme, which enhances security and decreases energy occupation of network communication, is utilized to schedule innovation transmissions among sensor nodes. In order to characterize actual transmission situation, random bit errors are considered whose influence is expressed by an additive stochastic noise. Moreover, a Bernoulli-distributed random variable is put into use to characterize the randomly switching topologies. This article aims to design distributed fault estimators such that the estimation error dynamics is exponentially ultimately bounded in mean square. A sufficient condition is set up for designing the estimator by means of statistical properties analysis and matrix inequality technique. Gain parameters of the distributed estimator are determined via solving a group of matrix inequalities. The simulation results validate that the proposed distributed fault estimation approach is effective.

In this paper, based on using binary encoding scheme, the state estimation issue is tackled for complex networks suffering from nonlinearities, stochastic inner coupling, randomly varying topologies and randomly occurring denial-of-service (DoS) attack. The binary encoding scheme is selected to manage the network communication between the sensor to the estimator. The measurement output is quantized to be encoded into a binary bit string (BBS), the random binary bit flipping is taken into account during the network transmission process caused by channel noise, and the received BBS is decoded by the estimator. The Gaussian-distributed random variables are adopted to reflect the possible stochastic variation of inner coupling strength inside each network node in practice. Three sets of Bernoulli-distributed random variables are put into use to depict the random occurrence of varying topology structures, binary bit flipping and DoS attacks during the network transmission, respectively. Based on the statistical properties analysis of the decoded signal, a equivalent stochastic noise is formulated to reflect the influence of random bit errors. This paper targets the state estimator design in such a situation so that the estimation error system achieves the exponential ultimate boundedness in mean square. Through stochastic analysis and inequality operation, a sufficient condition is brought forward for the presence of the satisfactory exponentially ultimately bounded estimator. The estimator gains are yielded readily through solving the matrix inequalities. Ultimately, a numerical simulation example is carried on to validate the usefulness of the estimation method put forth in this paper.

In this paper, the observer-based proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control problem is investigated for a class of actuator-saturated systems affected by multiplicative noises under the binary encoding scheme (BES). The communication between the sensors and the observers is implemented via a shared network, in which the measurement signals are transmitted by the BES. During the transmission, random bit errors may occur in the bit string due to the channel noises. The aim of this paper is to design an observer-based PID controller such that the closed-loop system is exponentially mean-square ultimately bounded with the consideration of random bit errors, actuator saturations and multiplicative noises. Sufficient conditions are presented to guarantee the expected performance of the resulted tracking error, and the controller gain matrices are obtained by solving a set of matrix inequalities. In this paper, the fault estimation problem is dealt with for a class of nonlinear time-delayed complex networks with bounded stochastic noises and sensor faults under the binary encoding scheme (BES). A first-order differential model with a random bias is utilized to describe the sensor fault to cater for real practice. By using the BES, the measurement signal is first encoded to a bit string and then transmitted to the estimator where the bit string is decoded. During the transmission, random bit errors may occur in the bit string due to the channel noises. A set of Bernoulli distributed random variables is employed to characterize the occurrence of the bit errors. To enhance the robustness of the estimation performance to the random bit errors, the saturation function is introduced in the estimator to constrain the innovations. The target of this paper is to design a fault estimator such that the estimation error dynamics is exponentially ultimately bounded in mean square with a minimized ultimate bound. Sufficient conditions are first developed for the existence of the desired fault estimator via stochastic analysis and inequality manipulations. Then, the estimator gain matrices are obtained by solving a set of matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed fault estimation method.

Zonotopic distributed fusion for 2-D nonlinear systems under binary encoding schemes: An outlier-resistant approach

This study addresses the zonotopic distributed fusion problem for a class of 2-D nonlinear systems over sensor networks subject to unknown-but-bounded (UBB) noises, measurement outliers, and bandwidth limitations. A saturation function is integrated to mitigate the impact of outliers. Furthermore, a dynamic quantization strategy is deployed to compact the innovation into quantized forms. An encoding-decoding mechanism is implemented between nodes and the fusion center to accommodate the constraint of limited bits while ensuring data security. The main purpose of this paper is to design a zonotopic distributed fusion algorithm under the set-membership filtering framework. Subsequently, gain parameters are derived by minimizing the F-radius of the local zonotopes, and fusion weights are ascertained using the Lagrange multiplier method. Additionally, the upper and lower bounds of the F-radius of the fused zonotope are derived. It is demonstrated that the F-radius of the fused zonotope is less than those prior to fusion. Finally, the feasibility of the developed algorithm is verified using a model of water stream heating and gas absorption.

Recursive multi-sensor fusion estimation under the coding-based relay network

This paper studies the recursive fusion estimation issue for a class of linear time-varying multi-sensor systems with amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. The AF relay is located between the sensor and the estimator to forward measurement signals for facilitating long-distance transmission. A binary encoding scheme is used to regulate signal transmission via a digital network where the signal is encoded into a bit string and decoded at the endpoint of the receiver. Because of the uncertainty of the network and the existence of channel noises, a set of Bernoulli distributed random variables is introduced to characterize the random bit flip phenomenon. The purpose of the addressed problem is to design a fusion estimator to simultaneously reflect the impact of multiplicative noises, the AF relay, the binary encoding scheme, and the random bit flip on the filtering error covariance. First of all, an upper bound for the filtering error covariance of the local estimator can be acquired, and by minimizing such an upper bound, the parametric form of the gain matrix is obtained. Subsequently, the fusion estimation is given based on the covariance intersection fusion strategy. Finally, a simulation example is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed multi-sensor fusion estimation.

This paper focuses on the distributed filtering issue for a type of discrete-time systems with cross-correlated measurement noises under constrained bit rate. The system under consideration is subject to cross-correlated measurement noises, that is, for different sensor nodes, the measurement noises are a-step cross-correlated. For digital communication, the binary encoding scheme is employed to encode the signals into binary bit strings, in which the random bit errors induced by the channel noise may occur during the propagation of the binary bit string via the memoryless binary symmetric channel. To characterize the occurrence of the bit errors, a set of Bernoulli distributed random variables is adopted. Furthermore, to better reflect the practice, the time delays in the coding-decoding process is incorporated in the filter design. Considering the impacts of the cross-correlated noises, constrained bit rates and bit errors, an upper bound of the filtering error covariance matrix is obtained and the filter parameters are acquired by minimizing the upper bound. Finally, a simulation example is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Consensusability of discrete-time multi-agent systems under binary encoding with bit errors

This paper is concerned with the consensusability problem for a class of discrete-time multi-agent systems (DT-MASs). A binary encoding scheme (BES) is employed during the data transmission, and only a finite-length binary bit string is transmitted due primarily to the limited network bandwidth in practice. Meanwhile, the binary bit string, transmitted via memoryless binary symmetric channels, might suffer from random bit errors with a certain probability. The purpose of this paper is to derive some consensusability conditions, under which there must exist a distributed controller such that the mean-square bounded consensus is achieved by the considered DT-MASs with BESs subject to random bit errors. To this end, the statistical properties are first revealed for the BES-induced quantization errors and the random bit errors. Then, by resorting to the solvability analysis of a modified Riccati inequality, some sufficient conditions are, respectively, derived to ensure the mean-square bounded consensus under the undirected communication topology in two scenarios: (1) identical bit-error rates (BERs);and (2) non-identical BERs. In particular, a necessary and sufficient condition is established for a single input case with identical BERs. Furthermore, the ultimate upper bound of the consensus errors in the mean-square sense is established to examine the effects of the length of bit string and the BERs. Finally, an illustrative simulation example is provided to validate the effectiveness of the theoretical results. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A New Lossless DNA Compression Algorithm Based on A Single-Block encoding scheme

With the emergent evolution in DNA sequencing technology, a massive amount of genomic data is produced every day, mainly DNA sequences, craving for more storage and bandwidth. Unfortunately, managing, analyzing and specifically storing these large amounts of data become a major scientific challenge for bioinformatics. Therefore, to overcome these challenges, compression has become necessary. In this paper, we describe a new reference-free DNA compressor abbreviated as DNAC-SBE. DNAC-SBE is a lossless hybrid compressor that consists of three phases. First, starting from the largest base (Bi), the positions of each Bi are replaced with ones and the positions of other bases that have smaller frequencies than Bi are replaced with zeros. Second, to encode the generated streams, we propose a new single-block encoding scheme (SEB) based on the exploitation of the position of neighboring bits within the block using two different techniques. Finally, the proposed algorithm dynamically assigns the shorter length code to each block. Results show that DNAC-SBE outperforms state-of-the-art compressors and proves its efficiency in terms of special conditions imposed on compressed data, storage space and data transfer rate regardless of the file format or the size of the data.
