Biomimetic Superhydrophobic Materials Construct from binary structure: A Review on Design, Properties, and Applications

In recent decades, the development of biomimetic superhydrophobic surface structures has allowed several properties of superhydrophobic materials to be increasingly developed. This review addresses mainly three aspects. First, two kinds of structures with superhydrophobic properties: binary structures and unitary structures, are analyzed and compared. The binary structure, which includes micro- and nanostructures, is responsible for the development of superhydrophobicity in most natural creatures and artificial materials. And hierarchical binary structures, which combine micro- and nanoscale structures, actually perform better at superhydrophobic. Second, various properties of superhydrophobic materials achieved through binary structures, including self-cleaning, antireflection, drag-reduction, and mechanically robust and durable superhydrophobic surfaces are summarized. Each structure possesses both superiority and vulnerability. The combination of various structures can help develop adaptable and practical materials. Finally, the combinations of different properties in superhydrophobic via using a binary structure are enumerated. Materials with various properties can adapt to different working environments.

Temporary Confined Water-Induced Landslide in the binary structure of a Gentle Slope: A Case Study of the Fanshantou Landslide

With the increase in rainfall, landslides occur on many gentle slopes in the mountainous areas of southeast China. Gentle slopes have a particular dual geological structure, i.e., the lower part is a gravel soil layer with good water permeability, and the surface layer is clay soil with relatively poor water permeability. Under conditions of heavy rainfall, a gentle slope with this structure is likely to collect temporary confined water. The intermittent creep of the upper slope is caused by the floating force of the temporary confined water, which causes landslide disasters. The conditions that bring about temporary confined water are related not only to the stratum structure, but also to the rainfall intensity and the initial height of the water table level. On the basis of the characteristics of the stratum of the gentle slope landslide on the front of Fanshantou Mountain, we constructed a hydrological model in GEO-STUDIO. We investigated the effect of different rainfall intensities and initial water table levels on confined water under continuous rainfall conditions and conducted a corresponding stability analysis. The results show that when both the initial water table level and the rainfall intensity are high, temporary confined water is formed rapidly, increasing the chance of a landslide disaster. The research results provide a theoretical basis for the treatment of landslides on similar gentle slopes in the mountainous areas of southeast China.

Simulation Parameter Selection and Steady Seepage Analysis of binary structure Slope

The selection of calculation parameters for slope excavation support design and the analysis of seepage stability is a significant challenge. This difficulty also hinders the development of slope support engineering. This study examined the right binary structure slope engineering of the K5 + 220-K5 + 770 section of the TJ1A mark of the Jiangkou-Weng'an Highway in Guizhou province. In this study, we propose and use the deep displacement monitoring data and p value test method to check the simulation parameters. Furthermore, the superposition calculation method for steady-state seepage analysis of slope geotechnical structure is proposed. A comparative analysis of the displacement, strain, stress, and safety factor of the slope after the application of pore water pressure was carried out for three slope conditions. The analysis showed that steady-state seepage has a significant effect on the displacement of the slope during the completion of excavation. As a result, a continuous distribution of strain arises on the slope along the interface between the potential sliding surface and the rock-soil layer, and then forms a continuous sliding zone. Additionally, steady-state seepage has a significant effect on the position of the displacement distribution during the initial support of the slope, leading to a significant increase in the extreme value of the shear outlet displacement of the potential slip surface of the slope and in the extreme value of equivalent strain. Finally, steady-state seepage reduces the displacement and equivalent strain upon construction of the secondary slope support. The steady-state seepage has a limited effect on the stress concentration, but reduces the safety factor calculated using the strength reduction method, in all three stages of slope excavation and support. Polypropylene (PP) fibrous membranes are widely used in medical and healthcare due to its sustainability. However, pristine PP fibrous membranes show poor flexibility, which limits their advanced functional application in medical and healthcare. Therefore, to improve the flexibility of PP fibrous membranes, propylene-based elastomer (PBE), a copolymer compatible with PP, was introduced by using the melt blowing technique in this study. The SEM images show that the PP/PBE fibrous membrane samples expressed a binary structured network morphology consisting of fibers with a diameter distribution ranging from 0.4 to 15 mu m. With an increase in PBE mass ratio from 15 to 80 wt%, the frequency of fibers with a diameter <3 mu m increased from 48.6 to 61.2%, thus making the elastic recovery rate in the machine direction (MD) increase from 62.9 to 80.3% and softness values increase from 15.88 to 54.31. Meanwhile, air permeability increased from 856 to 2257 m(3)/m(2) center dot h as the mass per unit area of the samples decreased from 129.9 to 40.1 g/m(2). This work provides an alternate method for producing flexible fibrous membranes that have potential for application in items such as surgical gown cuffs, bandages, and face mask ear loops.

binary structured physics-informed neural networks for solving equations with rapidly changing solutions

Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs), rooted in deep learning, have emerged as a promising approach for solving partial differential equations (PDEs). By embedding the physical information described by PDEs into feedforward neural networks, PINNs are trained as surrogate models to approximate solutions without the need for label data. Nevertheless, even though PINNs have shown remarkable performance, they can face difficulties, especially when dealing with equations featuring rapidly changing solutions. These difficulties encompass slow convergence, susceptibility to becoming trapped in local minima, and reduced solution accuracy. To address these issues, we propose a binary structured physics-informed neural network (BsPINN) framework, which employs binary structured neural network (BsNN) as the neural network component. By leveraging a binary structure that reduces inter-neuron connections compared to fully connected neural networks, BsPINNs excel in capturing the local features of solutions more effectively and efficiently. These features are particularly crucial for learning the rapidly changing in the nature of solutions. In a series of numerical experiments solving the Euler equation, Burgers equation, Helmholtz equation, and high-dimension Poisson equation, BsPINNs exhibit superior convergence speed and heightened accuracy compared to PINNs. Additionally, we compare BsPINNs with XPINNs, FBPINNs and FourierPINNs, finding that BsPINNs achieve the highest or comparable results in many experiments. Furthermore, our experiments reveal that integrating BsPINNs with Fourier feature mappings results in the most accurate predicted solutions when solving the Burgers equation and the Helmholtz equation on a 3D M & ouml;bius knot. This demonstrates the potential of BsPINNs as a foundational model. As a stable chemical material, polypropylene (PP) micro-nanofibrous membranes are widely used in medical and health care. However, PP fibrous membranes with single nano scale diameter are conducive to high packing density, which results in large flow resistance across the membrane. Therefore, to improve the material's water and air permeability, polyethylene glycol (PEG), an incompatible polymer with PP, was introduced by blending in a modified method using a melt blowing process. This proposed approach allows large 10 um diameter fibers to be entangled with fine 300 nm diameter fibers to produce highly porous binary structured fibrous membranes with small pore size. Because of its binary structure, the air permeability in the material reached 569.56 mm/s and the water vertical velocity was 70.15 mm/s. Additionally, the three-dimensional numerical calculations suggested that the high porosity and binary structure were key to enhancing water permeability in the fibrous membranes. These binary structured micro-nanofibrous membranes are expected to be used for filtration, separation, health care, oil/water separation, medical wound dressings, and other applications.

binary and ternary multilayers comprising paramagnetic and ferromagnetic materials filter out a specific neutron wavelength from the reflected broad spectrum. The effect of the grazing angle, the magnetization of the ferromagnetic layers, and the scattering length density of the ferromagnetic layers for both structures are numerically studied. The best performance of the proposed filter, such as the broadest neutron bandgap of 0.46 & Aring;and the smallest bandwidth of the transmitted beam of 0.0016 & Aring;, was achieved using the binary structure at magnetization of 40 kOe. These findings hold potential in the nuclear fields, including neutron waveguides and filters.

A Class of Optimal structures for Node Computations in Message Passing Algorithms

Consider the computations at a node in a message passing algorithm. Assume that the node has incoming and outgoing messages x = (x(1), x(2), ..., xn) and y = (y(1), y(2), ..., y(n)), respectively. In this paper, we investigate a class of structures that can be adopted by the node for computing y from x, where each y(j), j = 1, 2,..., n is computed via a binary tree with leaves x excluding x(j). We make three main contributions regarding this class of structures. First, we prove that the minimum complexity of such a structure is 3n - 6, and if a structure has such complexity, its minimum latency is delta + inverted right perpendicularlog(n - 2(delta))inverted left perpendicular with delta = right perpendicularlog(n/2)left perpendicular, where the logarithm always takes base two. Second, we prove that the minimum latency of such a structure is inverted right perpendicularlog(n - 1)inverted left perpendicular, and if a structure has such latency, its minimum complexity is n log(n - 1) when n - 1 is a power of two. Third, given (n, tau) with tau >= inverted right perpendicularlog(n - 1)inverted left perpendicular, we propose a construction for a structure which we conjecture to have the minimum complexity among structures with latencies at most tau. Our construction method runs in O(n(3) log(2) (n)) time, and the obtained structure has complexity at most (generally much smaller than) ninverted right perpendicularlog(n)inverted left perpendicular - 2.
