Ta-O-based resistive random access memory ( ReRAM) cells arranged in one-transistor-one-resistor ( 1T1R) bit arrays were investigated using scanning transmission electron microscopy ( STEM) in combination with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy ( EDS). While conductive filaments ( CFs) were less detected immediately after electroforming, they were observed with high probability after the number of memory operations exceeded 1 kilocycle ( kc). The observed CFs were nm-scale and grew slightly with switching repetitions up to 100 kc. In addition to oxygen reduction, Ta accumulation was seen at the CFs. This phenomenon may become a source of future device degradation.

Optimization of 3D printed liquid cooled heat sink designs using a micro-genetic algorithm with bit array representation

The advancement of additive manufacturing enables significantly greater freedom of design compared to conventional techniques. Of significant interest is the potential improvements in the design of cold plates and heat sinks for electronics cooling. Greater design freedom could enable new designs that reduce thermal resistance and hydraulic resistance, enabling the usage of higher power systems while maintaining an equivalent heat sink volume. Parts made by using additive manufacturing are built layer by layer, and can be conceptualized as a bit array in a 2D plane. Therefore, this work explores the feasibility of combining computational fluid dynamics and micro-genetic algorithms to produce optimum shapes for liquid cooled heat sinks represented as bit arrays. A 50 mm x 10 mm area is discretized into a grid space. An initial bit array geometry is developed using a heat flux dependent probability function based on two representative chip power distribution profiles. One distribution is a symmetric flux map, and the other uses a non-symmetric map, more representative of a real processor. The performance of generated designs is determined using a commercial computational fluid dynamics code, after which an optimization algorithm is applied. Solution ranking in each generation is based on the system entropy generation rate, which is dependent on the fluid pressure drop and overall heat sink thermal resistance. Crossover, mutation and elitism operations are used to create new generations of designs. Results after one hundred generations are compared with a baseline straight finned cold plate to determine the advantages of designing for an unrestricted manufacturing process. Results indicate that the optimization methods reduced entropy generation rate by 26.4% and 21.7% for the symmetric and non-symmetric power maps, respectively.

Beam-Switchable Digital Conformal array With Metasurface Phase Compensation

This article presents a novel digitally reconfigurable conformal array using the multimode control and metasurface phase compensation. The digital conformal array consists of a 1-bit multimode radiator, metasurfaces, and switch designs. By manipulating the field distributions of the transmission line (TL), a miniaturized multimode radiator is explored. Next, a low-cost 1-bit planar digital array without any feeding networks is proposed by coding the 0 degrees/180 degrees phase states of each mode/element. To match the circular/cylindrical/spherical scenarios, the planar digital array evolves into a conformal format. Here, to further lower the complexity and cost, the spatial phase difference of the digital conformal array is cleverly compensated by utilizing a metasurface layer rather than conventional phase-delay-line designs. By controlling the 1-bit phase states of each element, the radiation aperture of the digital conformal array is represented as a "0/1" binary sequence, which leads to an RIS-like multibeam switching capability. Moreover, by introducing the initial phase, a new 1-bit digital array with a single-beam steering capability is extended to further explore its application potential. To validate the concept, a four-element 1-bit digital conformal array was fabricated and measured. The digital conformal array could achieve a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 4.74-5.12 GHz (7.7%) and a peak gain of 11.0 dBi, which makes it a good candidate for intelligent wireless communication and detection applications.

Low-Cost 2-bit Phase and 1-bit Amplitude Reconfigurable Antenna for Beam Steering and Shaping

A low-cost 2-bit phase and 1-bit amplitude reconfigurable array with beam-steering and beam-shaping functions is presented in this article. To manipulate the radiation beam, a novel 2-bit phase radiator is proposed based on the mode control and the phase-shifting surface. This radiator element can directly realize four switchable radiation phase states without extra phase-shifting circuits. By introducing the higher order mode characteristics, these array elements are fed by a single-port cavity rather than the conventional multiport feeding networks. Thus, this design is very different from traditional phased arrays and bit arrays. More importantly, the 1-bit amplitude switching function is cleverly introduced by controlling the field distribution of this radiator, which can further manipulate the beam shape. To validate the proposed working principles, a phase and amplitude digitally reconfigurable substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna is fabricated and measured. By controlling the digital phase and amplitude states of each element, this antenna can realize multifunctional beam steering and shaping. The achieved impedance bandwidth is 9.52-10.27 GHz (7.6%), and the realized peak gain is 11.0 dBi. To our knowledge, the presented design is a new type of phase and amplitude digitally reconfigurable antenna/array without the multiport feeding network or T/R components. It has good potential in intelligent and low-cost beam-steering wireless communication systems.

Metamaterial-Based Pattern-Switchable Linear array for 2-D Discrete Beam-Scanning Using Hybrid Digital Coding Method

A new low-cost, pattern-switchable, metamaterial-inspired, dielectric resonator (DR) 1-D linear array for 2-D beam-steering is presented by using a hybrid digital coding method. By loading the metasurface on the DR, a low-profile DR radiator is developed. To realize both phase and pattern digital coding, a beam-switching metasurface-loaded 1 bit DR antenna is explored by using a symmetrical feeding scheme and a Yagi-like endfire radiation mechanism. The novel hybrid digital coding method is realized by using p-i-n diodes to co-control the phase (1 bit, 0 degrees/180 degrees) and radiation states (three-beam). Based on the hybrid digital coding method, the developed 1-D linear array creatively achieves low-cost quasi-2-D discrete beam scanning. The pattern reconfiguration technique contributes to the E-plane beam scanning, while the H-plane beam steering is attributed to the phase digital coding sequence. To validate this working mechanism, a four-element linear array is implemented and tested. The realized overlapped -10 dB impedance bandwidth is about 17.6% (covering LTE B42/43 bands), and the realized peak gain is 9.05 dBi. By controlling the switch states of 16 p-i-n diodes, the proposed four-element linear array achieves digital 2-D beam steering (12 beams). The presented antenna features a miniaturized size, wideband, low cost, and good 2-D beam-steering capacity. It provides a new and feasible solution for low-cost 2-D beam scanning, demonstrating a good application potential for intelligent communication systems and low-cost arrays.

HPG-HMapper: A DNA hydroxymethylation analysis tool

DNA methylation (mC) and hydroxymethylation (hmC) can significantly affect the normal human development, as well as health and disease status. hmC studies require not only specific treatment of DNA, but also software tools for their analysis. However, there are no software tools capable of analyzing DNA hmC currently. In this article, we propose HPG-HMapper, a parallel software tool for analyzing the DNA hmC data obtained by ten-eleven translocation-assisted bisulfite sequencing. This tool takes as input data the output files of mC aligner tools, and it yields mC maps and the accounting of methylated and hydroxymethylated bases on each chromosome. The design of this tool includes the consideration of different approaches, one of them based on binary trees and the other one based on bit arrays. The performance evaluation results show that a hybrid implementation is the most efficient option, allowing fast read and update operations while keeping a small memory footprint.

New hardware is described which allows the rapid execution of queries demanding the joining of physically stored relations. The main feature of the hardware is a special store which can rapidly remember or recall data. This data might be pointers from one file to another, in which case the memory helps with queries on joins of files. Bakalářská práce se zabývá popisem a konstrukcí Bloomova filtru. Autorem tohoto filtru je Burton H. Bloom. Bloomův filtr představuje efektivní nástroj ukládání prvků do univerzální množiny v podobě datové struktury. Zpracovává velký objem dat při zaplnění menšího paměťového prostoru. Datová struktura umožňuje vkládání prvků a jejich opětovné vyhledání v množině s nenulovou pravděpodobností chyby. Součástí práce je vysvětlení vlastností a způsobů využití datové struktury včetně možností snížení přípustných chyb. Rozšířením obecného Bloomova filtru je Počítaný Bloomův filtr, který umožňuje širší uplatnění této datové struktury.
