In order to estimate and decode the long-period scrambling code of asynchronous WCDMA signal, this paper proposed an independent component analysis (ICA) algorithm and phase locked loop (PLL) technology. First, according to the structure of WCDMA, the signal after sample rate conversion was proposed to be modeled as a form of carrier-modulated blind source separation matrix. Then, the long-period scrambling code and source information will be estimated by the proposed ICA and PLL algorithm. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively identify the long-period scrambling sequence of asynchronous multi-user WCDMA signals, and has better performance than the traditional identification method based on singular value decomposition(SVD).

blind decoding, used on control channels of some multi-user wireless access systems, is a technique for achieving adaptive modulation and coding. The idea is to adapt the modulation and coding scheme to the channel quality but instead of signaling the parameters used explicitly, the receiver blindly tries a number of fixed parameter combinations until a successful decoding attempt is detected, with the help of a cyclic redundancy check. In this paper we suggest a new method for reducing the complexity and energy consumption associated with such blind decoding schemes. Our idea is to use a mini-CRC injected early in the data stream to determine if the current decoding attempt is using the correct modulation and coding parameters. We analyze and exemplify the complexity gain of this approach and also investigate the impact of the rearrangement of the CRC scheme in terms of the probability of undetected error. The presented results for the complexity gain are promising and the impact on the error detection capability turns out to be small if any.

blind Soft-Output decoding of Space-Time Trellis Coded Transmissions over Time-Varying Rayleigh Fading Channels

We present a joint channel estimation and decoding method for space-time trellis codes (STTC) transmitted over an unknown flat fading multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. In a blind context, i.e. when pilot symbols are not available, we will show that the probability density function (pdf) of the MIMO channel becomes multimodal due to phase ambiguities. To address this problem, a combined state-space model for the time-varying MIMO channel and the STTC is introduced. The proposed algorithm then uses a Gaussian mixture approach to perform joint channel estimation and soft-output detection. We compare our method to several well known algorithms obtained by collapsing the Gaussian mixture to a single Gaussian distribution. A comparison with sequential Monte Carlo methods is also included. Numerical simulations show that the performances of the proposed blind STTC decoder are close to decoding with perfect channel state information (CSI). As a useful application of the proposed soft-output algorithm, we provide an example of blind iterative decoding of concatenated space-time codes.

In this paper, a set of variables which can be easily computed in the course of iterative decoding of turbo decoders named turbo decoding metrics (TDMs) are introduced. TDMs are measured twice per iteration. According to the measured values, a lot of information other than the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the received data, such as how good (or bad) the current decoding block is and how close to the convergence the current decoding is, can be obtained. Detailed discussions are provided regarding why these variables are considered. Based on the measured TDMs after the first iteration, an approximate channel reliability value (denoted as L-c) can be obtained for MAP-based turbo decoders. Simulation results show that there is no performance degradation if approximated L-c values are used instead of using exact values. It is also shown that the adaptive decoding approach employing TDMs is more efficient than all existing methods in terms of hardware and latency. Other applications of TDMs are also pointed out.

Watermarking in dithered halftone images with embeddable cells selection and inverse halftoning

This work proposes a novel technique, named embeddable cells selection (ECS), for embedding flexible amounts of data in a ready-made dithered halftone image, while still achieving good quality results. The encoder embeds the secret data in the high-frequency regions with nearly the same number of black and white pixels and low pixel connections. A blind decoding technique without prior knowledge of the original dithered image but with some side information is adopted in the decoder. The inverse halftoning and the second round of halftoning are the key steps in locating the embedded information bits. Experimental results demonstrate that an objective good quality image with flexible capacity and reasonable complexity is obtained. Moreover, the correct decoding rate of 100% is maintained, and the original host halftone image can also be reconstructed in the decoder. Furthermore, by recording the embedded positions, this method can guard against distortions caused by tampering, cropping, and print-and-scan attacks. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Privacy protection in on-line shopping for electronic documents

blind decoding schemes are proposed as tools for protecting customers' privacy in on-line shopping for electronic documents in such a way that the documents' owner has no way of knowing which documents the customers have purchased. However, most of the blind decoding schemes suffer from the oracle problem where an adversary may obtain useful information, such as the signature of a message, by interacting with the documents' owner (the oracle) using tricky requests. In this paper, a secure blind decoding scheme based on RSA scheme is proposed. Its security against one more decoding key and oracle attacks is formally proved. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. Intelligent Partial-Sensing-Based Autonomous Resource Allocation for NR V2X

Since its introduction for long term evolution (LTE), vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications have evolved to the recent new radio (NR)-based V2X with enhanced reliability, latency, capacity, and flexibility. One of the key features of NR V2X is the enabling of sidelink (SL) communications between user equipments (UEs) without any assistance from a base station (i.e., support of the out-of-coverage scenario). To this end, NR V2X supports SL resource allocation (RA) mode 2, in which a UE autonomously determines the subset of resources to use for data transmission while avoiding resource collision due to other UEs. This article summarizes the resource sensing and selection (RSS) mechanisms for SL RA mode 2 specified in releases 16 and 17 of NR V2X. The critical aspect for RSS is the minimization of UE power consumption during resource sensing, which is caused by multiple blind decodings on the physical SL control channel. To address this issue, the effective number of blind decodings for conventional RSS is quantitatively analyzed to determine the potential enhancements required. Furthermore, an enhanced RA mode 2 procedure based on an intelligent partial-sensing (IPS) scheme is proposed to minimize the number of blind decodings. The proposed IPS utilizes a convolutional neural network-based physical channel-type classification model. Simulation and numerical results show that the throughput obtained with the proposed IPS scheme approximates that obtained via full sensing-based RA mode 2, while reducing the number of blind decodings by 90%.

On Estimation Accuracy of Desynchronization Attack Channel Parameters

In this paper, we study some fundamental performance limits of blind data hiding against desynchronization attacks. These attacks are modeled in addition to independent Gaussian noise to the marked signal, followed by linear, time-invariant filtering. We study a joint estimator-decoder which estimates the desynchronization attack parameters and uses these estimates in the decoding step. We propose a coding scheme based on distortion-compensated quantization index modulation and derive the estimation accuracy of the attack parameters via Fisher information and a Cramer-Rao type bound. For illustration purposes, we report estimation and decoding results on several attacks, including classical ones ( scaling and fractional shifts) and some new ones. The results are in close agreement with our bounds and tightly quantify the performance loss due to desynchronization and the influence of code block length. Thus our results demonstrate the high performance of a joint estimation-decoding approach.

Fast blind Recognition of Channel Codes

We present a fast algorithm that, for a given input sequence and a linear channel code, computes the syndrome posterior probability (SPP) of the code, i.e., the probability that all parity check relations of the code are satisfied. According to this algorithm, the SPP can be computed blindly, i.e., given the soft information on a received sequence we can compute the SPP for the code without first decoding the bits. We show that the proposed scheme is efficient by investigating its computational complexity. We then consider two scenarios where our proposed SPP algorithm can be used. The first scenario is when we are interested in finding out whether a certain code was used to encode a data stream. We formulate a statistical hypothesis test and we investigate its performance. We also compare the performance of our scheme with that of an existing scheme. The second scenario deals with how we can use the algorithm for reducing the computational complexity of a blind decoding process. We propose a heuristic sequential statistical hypotheses test to use the fact that in real applications, the data arrives sequentially, and we investigate its performance using system simulations.

Phase Corrected ICA for Uplink Massive MIMO

Channel state information (CSI) is fundamental to the performance of massive multiple-input multiple-output systems. However, systems that rely on pilots for the CSI estimation are susceptible to pilot contamination, as neighboring cells may reuse the same pilot sequences. Independent component analysis (ICA) has been widely used in recent studies to perform blind decoding, in order to circumvent the effects of pilot contamination. In this letter, we introduce a modified version of fastICA, the phase corrected ICA that reduces phase rotation on the estimated constellations, and thus, results in better performance of blind receivers. Through simulations, we show that our method significantly reduces symbol error rates compared to standard ICA based methods. Furthermore, we show that the increase in complexity is small at high signal-to-noise rate.
