Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been focused on in high-data-rate wireless communication research. But the high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is one of the main obstacles to limit wide applications of OFDM. In this paper, based on the definition of the PAPR in OFDM systems, these techniques on PAPR reduction are presented, including signal distortion, signal scrambling, and block coding. We report on the performance of an optimized parallel channel coder for high-speed optical transmission systems. The coding properties are discussed by an evaluation of the signal statistics of the coded pulse train in the time and frequency domain. The discussion is mainly based on the results far the power spectral density (PSD) and the autocorrelation function (AKF). The theoretical investigations have been verified by measurements with a developed 2.488 Gbit/s optical transmission system. Reliability studies have shown a system's bit error rate below 10(-13).

OFDM is usually selected as a good candidate for Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) systems. However, the weaknesses of the OFDM technique, such as low bandwidth efficiency and high out-of-band emission, lead to the introduction of Filter Bank based Multi Carrier (FBMC) system. In this paper, an efficient FBMC system using Cosine Modulated Filter Banks (CMFB) has been proposed. Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is an important problem in FBMC system as in every multicarrier system. PAPR reduction using companding, block coding and a hybrid of both methods are carried out and their performance is evaluated using CCDF plot and BER plot. The simulation results show that hybrid method outperforms the other methods and gives better PAPR reduction.

The goal was to gather insight into how to best introduce programming to our students. We found that our students should start with block coding, as a means to slowly and easily introduce coding concepts. Then they are ready for text-based programming skills. This flow allows them to understand and be able to apply basic computing concepts and enjoy the process of learning. Also, introducing block coding should be done via a fun game or activity to entice them to want to learn programming.

As the network-on-chip (NoC) integrated into an SoC design can come from an untrusted third party, there is a growing risk that data integrity and security get compromised when supposedly sensitive data flows through such an untrusted NoC. We thus introduce a new method that can ensure secure and secret data transmission over such an untrusted NoC. Essentially, the proposed scheme relies on encoding binary data as delays between packets travelling across the source and destination pair. The maximum data transmission rate of this inter-packet-delay (IPD)-based communication channel can be determined from the analytical model developed in this article. To further improve the undetectability and robustness of the proposed data transmission scheme, a new block coding method and communication protocol are also proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed IPD-based method can achieve a packet error rate (PER) of as low as 0.3% and an effective throughput of 2.3 x 10(5) b/s, outperforming the methods of thermal covert channel, cache covert channel, and circuit-based encryption and, thus, is suitable for secure data transmission in unsecure systems.

We propose the use of the popular error correcting codes (ECC) in a multi-class audio emotion recognition scenario to improve the emotion recognition accuracy in spoken speech. In this paper, we visualize the emotion recognition system as a noisy communication channel, thus motivating the use of ECC in the emotion recognition process. We assume the emotion recognition process consists of an audio feature extraction module followed by an artificial neural network (ANN) for emotion (represented by a binary string) classification. The noisy communication channel, in our formulation, is the insufficiently learnt ANN classifier which in turn results in an erroneous (binary string) emotion classification. In our system, we use ECC to encode the binary string representing the emotion class using a block Coder (BC). We show through rigorous experimentation, on Emo-DB database, that the use of ECC improves the recognition accuracy of the emotion classification system in the range of (4.6 -9.35)% in comparison to the baseline ANN-based emotion classification system.

This paper is devoted to a transform-based quantitative data compression technique involving rapid enumeration in a unary-binary time-based numeral system (NS). The symbols comprising the alphabets of human-computer interaction languages (HCIL), which are used in an informational message (IM), are collected in primary code tables, such as the ASCII table. The statistical-oriented data compression method using unconventional timer encryption and encoding information are proposed by us. It was constructed probability - discrete model of the set of character sequences and characterized some probabilistic algorithms associated with the recovery of text by its public key and its cipher. We find the possibility of parallel implementation of this method by building a block of timer tags. The necessary complex assessments are made. The method can be used to compress SMS messages. Probabilistic-statistical analysis and evaluation of their effectiveness are obtained.

In this paper, we present a hybrid 2-3-3 bits based encoding scheme for gray scale images. In this scheme, the gray scale image is converted to its equivalent 8-binary maps. We employ our lossless block coding technique along with a two dimensional information preserving skip-line routine on the two most significant binary maps. Then, we apply our lossy block coding technique along with a lossy skip-line routine to the next three binary maps. Finally, the three least significant binary maps are set to zero. We tested this scheme on a large set of images of different sizes and applications. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperformed the standard JPEG compression in most of the cases while maintained high SNR values.
