An optical probe imaging based, fully automatic and rather flexible stereo vision system for 3D coordinate on-line measurement is presented and analyzed. In this system, the relative position of the two cameras can easily calibrated by observing an optical reference bar in different locations and orientations throughout the measurement according to epipolar constraint and the certified distance of the features on the reference bar. For measurement, the system takes an optical probe, which has one reference mark and five optical feature points, as imaging target, and makes use of the measurement results of these feature points space coordinates to calculate the measured object point coordinate which contacts with probe tip. To improve the calibration and measurement accuracy, the system takes infrared LED as optical feature point, and optimized signal to noise ratio by automatic LED light intensity, located these feature imaging points by bilinear centroid sub-pixel algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed system has been test by experiments.

In order to improve the location accuracy of the centroid algorithm in binary-detection sensor networks, a cooperative target location algorithm based on time difference of arrival was proposed. This algorithm only needs the position information and the target signal arrival time information of four nodes;it is simple in principle and calculation. Besides, because this algorithm used the centroid information of the four nodes, the algorithm can tolerant some minor error including the node position error and the time difference error. Simulations were made, and the results shows that the algorithm can realize accurate target location when there is none of error in the information of node information and time difference of arrival time, and the effectiveness of the algorithm is better than the centroid algorithm when there are minor error in the information of node position and time difference of arrival time.

Laser guide stars (LGSs) increase the sky coverage of astronomical adaptive optics systems. But spot array obtained by Shack-Hartmann wave front sensors (WFSs) turns extended and elongated, due to the thickness and size limitation of sodium LGS, which affects the accuracy of the wave front reconstruction algorithm. In this paper, we compared three different centroiding algorithms, the center-of-gravity (CoG), weighted CoG (WCoG) and Intensity Weighted centroid (IWC), as well as those accuracies for various extended and elongated spots. In addition, we compared the reconstructed image data from those three algorithms with theoretical results, and proved that WCoG and IWC are the best wave front reconstruction algorithms for extended and elongated spot among all the algorithms.

To overcome the drawback and limitation of the traditional vehicle detector in the electronic police system, this paper proposes a novel video detection method by improving the inter-frame difference method and combining the amount of pixels and the position of the centroid in foreground image to detect vehicle in complex situation. The proposed method can reduce the redundant information of video and has the lower computational complexity. Moreover, it can also capture the vehicles violating traffic laws and regulations effectively, and improve real-time.

The three-dimensional point cloud registration is a key technology of augmented reality and three-dimensional reconstruction. Also the Interactive Closest Point (ICP) is one of the most widely used algorithms of three-dimensional point cloud registration. However, the current ICP algorithms often come with an inaccurate initial value of the rotation matrix and the translation vector and cannot be used in scenarios with multiple objects. Therefore, we propose an ICP algorithm for multiple objects, which has an accurate initial rotation matrix and a translation vector. Firstly, the point cloud segmentation is applied to get multiple objects based on the Pass-through Filter and the Normal Estimation algorithms. The main spatial features involved are geometry and texture features. Secondly, the centroid of the regular point cloud data model such as cups, desks, etc. of each segmented point cloud, is calculated. Moreover, the singular value decomposition algorithm is used to obtain the rotation matrix of each point cloud model respectively. Finally, the translation vector of each point cloud model is obtained by combining the centroid and the rotation matrix. Experimental results show that the proposed method solves the problem of the inaccurate initial position and can be used for three-dimensional point cloud registration with multiple objects being compared with the existed ICP algorithms. At the same time, the ICP registration efficiency of a three-dimensional point cloud with single object using the proposed method is also improved about 5 percent.

We present a fast, simple, sub-pixel algorithm on the critical angle refractometer to measure the refractive index of the liquid sample by determining the centroid of the light intensity of the relative reflective curve. The centroid algorithm utilizes a divergent fiber-coupled royal blue LED source to irradiate on the dielectric surface between the prism and the media, which generates the light intensity distribution of the reflectance facula. Instead of the critical angle pixel as the differential algorithm and the threshold algorithm, the sub pixel centroid algorithm is based on calculating the centroid value of the light intensity of the relative reflective curve. In some moderate turbid solutions, the centroid algorithm is less sensitive to the scattering and absorption than the differential algorithm and the threshold algorithm. It is possible to utilize the centroid point of the relative reflective curve to determine the refractive index. Supported by the theoretical analysis and experimental results on saline solutions, we can conclude that the proposed algorithm is effective to get the super resolution and meaningful to the refractive index measurement of the liquid. The critical angle refractometer with this centroid method is potential to be a high-accuracy, high-resolution, and reliable automatic refractometer.

We have developed a whole set of range gated laser imaging system with similar to 3km maximum acquisition distance, the system uses a Nd:YAG electro-optical Q-switched 532nm laser as transmitter, a double micro channel plate as gated sensor, all the components are controlled by the a trigger control unit with accuracy of subnanosecond. A imaging scheme is designed for imaging the large building similar to 500m away, and a sequence of images are obtained in the experiment, which are the basic data for 3D reconstruction;to improve the range resolution, we study the temporal distribution of intensity of the received signal, and use centroid algorithm for data processing. We compare the 3D image with the theoretical model, and the results are corresponding.

Due to hardware and computational constraints, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) normally do not take measurements of time-of-arrival or time-difference-of-arrival for range-based localization. Instead, WSNs in some applications use range-free localization for simple but less accurate determination of sensor positions. A well-known algorithm for this purpose is the centroid algorithm. This paper presents a range-free localization technique based on the radical line of intersecting circles. This technique provides greater accuracy than the centroid algorithm, at the expense of a slight increase in computational load. Simulation results show that for the scenarios studied, the radical line method can give an approximately 2 to 30% increase in accuracy over the centroid algorithm, depending on whether or not the anchors have identical ranges, and on the value of DOI.

The polarization dual fiber collimator is one of the important passive devices, which could be used to transform divergent light from the fiber into parallel beam or focus parallel beam into the fiber so as to improve the coupling efficiency of fiber device. However, the quality of double-pigtail fiber used for assembling collimator directly impacts on the performance of fiber collimator. Therefore, it is necessary to detect the quality of double-pigtail fiber before collimators has been packaged to ensure the quality of fiber collimator. The paper has pointed out that the verticality of two slow-axis of the double-pigtail fiber is the major factor to affect the quality of fiber collimator. With "Panda"-type double-pigtail fiber as the research object, a novel method to detect the verticality of slow-axis is proposed. First, with the red light of LED as background light source, the clear images of the cross-section end surface of double-pigtail fiber has been obtained by micro-imaging systems;Then after a series of image pre-processing operations, the coordinate information of "cat's eye" light heart can been extracted with the image centroid algorithm;Finally, the angle between the two slow axes of the double-pigtail fiber can be calculated quickly and accurately according to pre-established mathematical model. The detection system mainly consists of CCD, microscopic imaging device, image board and image processing software developed with VC++. The experimental results prove that the system is both practical and effective and can satisfy the collimator assembly precision demands.

In order to improve the issue about the low localization accuracy of unknown nodes, this paper proposes a kind of improved region segmentation localization algorithm. Under the precondition of building the mathematical model of region segmentation, the algorithm utilizes the ratio which the unknown node received signal strength from the beacon nodes comparing with the signal strength scale factor of the region segmentation line to make sure the sub region of the unknown node. The algorithm calculates the centroid coordinate of this sub region and takes the centroid coordinate as the location coordinate of the unknown node. The simulation results show that the average localization accuracy has been improved compared with centroid localization algorithm and improved centroid localization algorithm.
